Eskom confirms over 20 areas facing power outages in KZN
As a bout of severe weather has swept across the country, Eskom KZN has reported multiple power outages across the province on Tuesday following a bout of severe weather, which has included heavy rainfall, strong winds and snowfall.
Significant disruptions to the electricity supply has been confirmed in nearly two dozen regions.
The areas currently impacted by outages include Empangeni, Melmoth, Inkosi Mtubatuba, Ulundi, Hluhluwe, Jozini, Nongoma, Eshowe, Bergville, Ladysmith, Ingagane, Paulpietersburg, Ixopo, Kokstad, Cedarville, Franklin, Umzimkhulu, Bulwer, Lamington, Harding, Ingeli, Paddock, Edendale, and Riverdale.
Eskom said it has deployed technical teams to attend to faults in accessible areas as inclement weather continues to batter KZN.
'We understand the inconvenience and frustration this situation causes and appeal to our customers for patience and understanding as we work to restore power safely and as quickly as possible,' Eskom said.
'Residents are urged to stay clear of fallen cables, damaged poles, or any exposed wiring, and to report such hazards immediately to local authorities or via Eskom's reporting channels.'

"As the water subsides, more bodies are being discovered," said Caroline Gallant, Eastern Cape manager at the South African Red Cross Society, which has sent assistance to the disaster zone. More than 3,000 houses have been affected, she told AFP, adding it was "the worst ever disaster" recorded in the area. President Cyril Ramaphosa called the floods "unprecedented" and said he would visit the disaster-hit region on Friday. Four other children are missing, while three were found alive. Two adults with them on the bus also died. Estcourt school suspends classes after strong winds collapse roof
Strong winds have been sweeping across KwaZulu-Natal, causing significant damage, including the partial collapse of Ntabamhlophe Primary School in the KwaDlamini area. As a result, the school has suspended all classes until Tuesday next week (June 17), citing safety concerns. The roof collapsed early morning yesterday (June 10), before the school gates were opened. As a result, no one was injured. According to a report obtained from the school, it was a 'stroke of luck' that the school's security guard had not yet opened the gates.
