Two French Climbers Die in Mont Blanc Accident
According to Aostasera, the climbers likely fell from the ridge of the Aiguille de Bionnassay, a technical route to Mont Blanc requiring significant experience. The search began Friday evening after family members, concerned by their failure to return, alerted authorities. The PGHM located the bodies on Saturday. Authorities have opened an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
A deadly couple of years
This incident follows other recent fatalities in the Mont Blanc massif. On June 10, two climbers, a man and a woman in their 40s, were found dead below the Aiguille du Tricot on the Bionnassay Glacier, also likely from a fall.
On September 10 last year, two Italians and two South Koreans died of exhaustion after harsh weather stranded them near the summit of Mont Blanc. The next day, a 61-year-old Danish hiker fell 30m to his death near Saint-Gervais-les-Bains. On August 22, 2024, two Spanish climbers died in a rappelling accident on Mont Blanc du Tacul's Gervasutti Couloir, and a 67-year-old climber fell into a crevasse on the Dome du Gouter.
Additionally, on July 13, 2025, a fatal accident occurred on the nearby 4,357m Dent Blanche in Switzerland's Canton Valais, close to the Italian border. Two Austrian climbers, part of a group of five, fell on the mountain's west face. A 46-year-old woman died, while her 46-year-old companion remains missing despite extensive search efforts complicated by adverse weather and rugged terrain, according to the Valais Cantonal Police.

A Pennsylvania mom was killed after being crushed by a falling tree branch during her teenage daughter's softball tournament. Gendie Miller, 49, and her husband Bill Miller were watching their daughter, Marlee, 16, play in the Western PA College Showcase softball camp at Renziehausen Park in McKeesport, Pennsylania, Wednesday when several large tree branches suddenly fell from above them. The had moved to sit under a tree in the shade because temperatures reached 90 degrees. 'I said to my wife, 'Let's go.' I jumped out of my chair, felt a small branch of some sort that grazed my leg. He recalled seeing several branches, each about 10 to 12 inches thick, piled on top of his wife of 17 years. It's unclear what led the tree branches to snap. 'Suddenly, the tree started to make cracking noises and a very large branch fell, striking Gendie in the head, knocking her unconscious to the ground, and entrapping her under the tree,' a GoFundMe page read. Bystanders immediately sprang into action, moving the branches off the mom, but the extent of her injuries was too severe. Gendie Miller was rushed to the hospital, but did not survive. 'To be so traumatic, and with the heavy load of the type of branch and limb, it was devastating. And I can tell you that she didn't die from her heart, because her heart's too big,' Bill Miller said. The dedicated mom 'would never miss a practice or an event, high school, travel ball, whatever it was. That was who she was,' her husband said. 'She would give you the shirt off her back,' he added. The grieving dad said both he and their daughter remain in a state of shock following the incident. 'I think I'm in shock, and surreal that it obviously hasn't hit me the worst – nor my daughter, for that matter. She is being very strong. And, you know, worried about that, just as I'm worried about her,' he said. A GoFundMe started by Marlee Miller's coach noted that since it was in the 90s, the couple had decided to sit under a shady tree while watching their daughter perform drills before scrimmaging in front of college coaches. The fundraiser had received over $48,000 in donations as of Monday morning. 'Between medical/ambulance bills, funeral items, and initial lost wages, Bill and Marlee could use all the help they can get,' the page read. 'Although it doesn't bring back their loved one, it takes a little bit of the burden off of coming up with funds they don't have right now for something so sudden and unexpected.' Woman killed and man airlifted to hospital after motorbike collided with tractor
A woman has died and a man has been airlifted to a major trauma centre after the motorcycle they were riding collided with a tractor in rural Shropshire last night. West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to reports of a serious collision involving a motorcycle and tractor on the A458 in Rowton, Shrewsbury at 6.27pm, yesterday, Sunday, July 27. Two ambulances, two paramedic officers, the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford and the Welsh Air Ambulance responded to the scene. Fatal crash closes part of Highway 14 in Owatonna
One person died in a crash with a semi truck in southern Minnesota Monday morning, authorities said. The semi collided with another vehicle at highways 14 and 218 near Owatonna around 4:25 a.m., according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The semi driver was uninjured and the other driver was killed. As of 6:16 a.m., Highway 14 eastbound was closed while crews cleared the crash. The Minnesota Department of Transportation said it would be closed until about 10:30 a.m. The state patrol is investigating the crash.
