Shafaq News08-04-2025

Shafaq News/ Iraqi security forces launched a large-scale search operation on Tuesday targeting ISIS remnants in northern Rawa, al-Anbar province, extending toward the Nineveh Desert within the jurisdiction of al-Jazeera Operations Command.
The Ministry of Defense stated that the operation involves army units, special forces, army aviation, air force jets, and aerial reconnaissance from military intelligence. Engineering support teams from the Military Engineering Directorate are also participating.
The Army's Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah, arrived at al-Jazeera Operations Command earlier today to oversee the operation and inspect troop readiness and deployment across the area of responsibility.

Iraq has intensified its operations against ISIS remnants. In the first quarter of 2025, the security forces neutralized about 100 militants.
Despite ISIS's territorial defeat in 2017, remnants of the group continue to launch sporadic attacks using suicide bombings, ambushes, and guerrilla warfare. These attacks often occur in Iraq's more remote and mountainous regions where ISIS maintains hideouts.

Diplomacy halted: US-Iran talks in Muscat called off

Shafaq News/ The upcoming round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States, scheduled for tomorrow in Muscat, has been canceled, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi announced on Saturday. Albusaidi confirmed the decision on X, emphasizing that 'diplomacy and dialogue remain the only pathway to lasting peace.' The Iran US talks scheduled to be held in Muscat this Sunday will not now take place. But diplomacy and dialogue remain the only pathway to lasting peace. — Badr Albusaidi - بدر البوسعيدي (@badralbusaidi) June 14, 2025 The talks were expected to be the sixth round of negotiations focused on Iran's nuclear program and regional de-escalation. However, tensions surged after Israel's Operation Rising Lion and Iran's large-scale retaliation under True Promise 3. Earlier today, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the Israeli attacks on nuclear and military sites as a US-supported offensive, arguing that negotiations under such conditions were 'unjustifiable.'

Iraq's CF calls for diplomatic solution to Iran-Israel conflict

Shafaq News/ Iraq's Coordination Framework, a political ruling alliance of predominantly Shiite parties, has endorsed a diplomatic initiative aimed at reducing tensions between Iran and Israel, sources revealed to Shafaq News on Saturday. The decision was made during a meeting on Friday attended by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, along with other senior leaders of the Framework. Participants reviewed the recent escalation between Iran and Israel, emphasizing the need to avoid further deterioration in regional stability. The initiative is part of Iraq's broader efforts to promote dialogue and reduce the risk of a wider conflict. Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein is expected to embark on a round of shuttle diplomacy, engaging with neighboring countries and key international stakeholders involved in regional security. In addition, al-Sudani is scheduled to hold phone calls with several Arab leaders, including the Emir of Qatar as well as the heads of state of Kuwait, Oman, and Jordan.

Houthis vow deeper strikes into Israel in retaliation for regional attacks

Shafaq News/ Yemen plans to escalate its military campaign in response to Israeli operations across the region, a senior figure aligned with the Houthis (Ansarallah) revealed on Saturday. Adel Rajeh, a member of the Justice and Development Party's Central Committee, told Shafaq News that Yemen remains the 'most active front supporting Gaza,' frequently launching missiles and drones toward Israeli targets. 'More advanced weapons will soon strike deeper inside Israeli territory in retaliation for attacks on Gaza, Iran, Lebanon, and Syria,' Rajeh warned. He said that Sanaa has partially imposed an aerial and naval blockade on Israel, complicating its defense strategy, adding that Israeli warships targeted Yemeni ports to disrupt Houthi drone operations. Rajeh acknowledged a 'temporary lull' from other Iran-aligned factions such as Hezbollah and Iraqi factions but asserted they remain active and will soon take more visible action. 'Yemen will play a pivotal role in delivering precise and impactful strikes against the Zionist entity [Israel] using advanced systems,' he declared, positioning the country as a key force in the regional conflict with Israel.
