Shafaq News/ Iraq's Coordination Framework, a political ruling alliance of predominantly Shiite parties, has endorsed a diplomatic initiative aimed at reducing tensions between Iran and Israel, sources revealed to Shafaq News on Saturday.
The decision was made during a meeting on Friday attended by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, along with other senior leaders of the Framework. Participants reviewed the recent escalation between Iran and Israel, emphasizing the need to avoid further deterioration in regional stability.
The initiative is part of Iraq's broader efforts to promote dialogue and reduce the risk of a wider conflict. Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein is expected to embark on a round of shuttle diplomacy, engaging with neighboring countries and key international stakeholders involved in regional security.
In addition, al-Sudani is scheduled to hold phone calls with several Arab leaders, including the Emir of Qatar as well as the heads of state of Kuwait, Oman, and Jordan.

Missile debris falls in northern Iraq amid Israel-Iran escalation

Shafaq News/ Debris from suspected Iranian missiles landed in Iraq's Nineveh and Saladin provinces Sunday, as regional tensions soared following a sharp military exchange between Iran and Israel. Security sources stated that the missile remnants fell in unpopulated areas, causing no casualties or damage but prompting immediate investigations and local alarm. In Nineveh, a security official reported that fragments of a missile struck a remote area in Tal Abta subdistrict, west of Mosul. The projectile landed in Tal Ajjour village, an uninhabited zone, and was discovered by Iraqi security forces. In Saladin, another security source confirmed that parts of an unidentified missile landed on the outskirts of Tuz Khurmatu, east of the province. 'Preliminary assessments indicate the object was part of a long-range missile launched from Iran during the Saturday night strikes targeting Israel,' the source noted. The incident comes amid a severe regional escalation that began with Israeli airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear facilities late Friday, which killed several senior IRGC commanders. In response, Iran launched waves of ballistic missiles and drones at Israeli territory on Saturday night, marking the most dangerous direct confrontation between the two rivals in years.

True Promise III rocks Israel as Iran retaliates for infrastructure attacks

Shafaq News/ Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a new wave of missile and drone strikes on Israel early Sunday under Operation 'True Promise III', in direct retaliation for Israeli air raids that struck Iranian nuclear, military, and oil infrastructure. The IRGC's Aerospace Force confirmed the large-scale operation in an official statement, declaring it a response to what it described as the 'renewed aggression by the Zionist entity' on Iranian soil. The attack reportedly involved both ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles in a 'joint offensive with high firepower,' with further operational details to be released soon. According to Mehr News Agency, the operation carried the symbolic mobilization code 'Ya Ali ibn Abi Talib' refers to a revered figure in Shia Islam, while the timing on the eve of Eid al-Ghadir—a significant Shia holiday commemorating the Prophet Muhammad's appointment of Ali as his successor—was seen as symbolically charged. Mehr also reported the use of hypersonic missiles along with Emad and Kheibar-class projectiles, claiming that multiple layers of Israel's air defense were penetrated. The attacks reportedly targeted areas in Haifa and Tel Aviv. The Israeli military acknowledged incoming Iranian missile barrages in the north, including strikes on Haifa, which killed three people and injured others, according to initial assessments. In retaliation, the Israeli Air Force launched a strike on a major fuel depot in western Tehran, specifically in the Shahran district, according to Israel's state broadcaster. The strike caused massive explosions and a widespread fire. Iranian officials have not yet issued a formal statement on casualties or damage. This exchange marks the most dangerous escalation in the ongoing Israel–Iran confrontation. Less than 48 hours earlier, Israel carried out coordinated precision strikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites, reportedly killing several top IRGC commanders, including the Air Force operations chief and officials linked to Iran's missile and nuclear programs.
