Feeling bad after selling a stock too early? Even Shah Rukh Khan let go of his ‘multibagger' Shreyas Iyer, quips fund manager
Gurmeet Chadha likened KKR's choice to retain Venkatesh Iyer over Shreyas Iyer to a poor investment decision. Shreyas, after leading KKR to an IPL title in 2024, was released and subsequently acquired by Punjab Kings. In the world of cricket, as in investing, timing, vision, and faith in fundamentals often determine success or failure. Gurmeet Chadha , fund manager and CIO at Compcircle, drew a striking parallel between portfolio management and a major IPL decision that went wrong for one of India's most iconic franchises.Chadha joked that if you're ever feeling low about a bad investment, remember that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), owned by Shah Rukh Khan, chose to retain Venkatesh Iyer over Shreyas Iyer — a decision that now serves as a cautionary tale not just for team managers but also for anyone dealing with high-stakes decisions. Shreyas Iyer — the star KKR let go — is now on the brink of making history with Punjab Kings "If you ever feel low on a bad decision made in your portfolio…. Remember - SRK and KKR management retained Ventakesh Iyer instead of Shreyas Iyer," fund manager Gurmeet Chadha said in a tweet.Shreyas Iyer, who led KKR to their IPL title win in 2024, was surprisingly not retained ahead of the IPL 2025 season. Instead, KKR spent a whopping Rs 23.75 crore to bring back all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer in the mega auction held in Jeddah last year. The move raised eyebrows across cricketing circles. Meanwhile, Shreyas was snapped up by Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore and was named captain. Under his leadership, Punjab turned into a dominant force and are now set to contest the IPL 2025 final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).Punjab Kings, known historically for underachievement and inconsistency, have seen a stunning transformation this season. Shreyas has led from the front with his batting and captaincy. With 603 runs from 16 matches at an average of 54.81 and a strike rate of nearly 176, he's been a match-winner game after game. His latest performance — an unbeaten 87 off 41 balls in the second qualifier against Mumbai Indians — was a clutch innings that propelled Punjab into their first IPL final in over a decade. It was also a painful reminder to KKR fans of what they lost. The backlash on social media was fierce and immediate. Fans criticized the KKR management for releasing a proven match-winner and leader, especially after he delivered them a title the previous year. Responding to Gurmeet Chadha's tweet, netizens responded with scathing sarcasm, memes, and humorous financial analogies. Some compared KKR's decision to misallocating capital in a mutual fund, while others joked about "reinvestment gone wrong" and 'confusion in the Iyer name.' One popular sentiment was that Punjab Kings should hold on to Shreyas for life, lest they too repeat the mistakes of KKR.Preity Zinta, the co-owner of Punjab Kings, has been a constant figure of support for throughout the tournament. Ahead of the final in Ahmedabad, she shared a heartfelt video montage on social media, highlighting the journey of the team, its standout players, and the contribution of coach Ricky Ponting. Zinta praised Shreyas for his leadership, calling him a "dynamic sarpanch," and emphasized how the team had gelled together to peak at the right time.

Defence testing lab to come up at Sidco estate in Trichy
1 2 Trichy: Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (Tidco) has finalised a 1.4 acre site inside Thuvakudi Small Industries development Corporation (Sidco) industrial estate near NIT Trichy to develop Advancing Mechanical & Material Defence Testing lab at an outlay of Rs 50 crore. The integrated testing facility will function under public-private collaboration involving major public sector companies including BEML and HAL to engage in high-end testing and certification of materials for aerospace and defence companies in the state. Proposed under Defence Testing Infrastructure Scheme (DTIS), the lab, named System Testing and Research in Advanced Material (STREAM) foundation, will have comprehensive infrastructure comprising at least 40 testing machinery on 13,000 square feet floor space. As the state govt already has a built-up space of 3,000 square feet in Thuvakudi Sidco complex, Tidco has simultaneously launched procurement procedures to buy material testing equipment while expanding the built-up space. "The aerospace and defence testing lab will decentralize the investment and boost Tamil Nadu's leadership in defence and aerospace sector. Since Trichy as a node of the defence industrial corridor has an established ecosystem for metal fabrication, the lab will be a game changer," Wing Commander P Madhusoodhanan, vice-president, (aerospace and defence), Tidco, told TOI. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo As the aerospace and defence sector requires high quality standards, lack of a comprehensive material testing facility in Trichy was so far discouraging industries from exploring new business areas. Once the facility becomes operational, testing requirements will be satisfied locally, said Tidco officials. "The material testing lab in Thuvakudi is set to play an important role in the state's industrial ecosystem. Skill development service for workers will be provided at the lab. Volume of production done by local companies will certainly increase. Initially, around 30-40 people will be employed in the testing lab," Angayasamy Subbiah, managing partner, Vaidheswaran industries, an industry partner of the proposed STREAM Lab, said. The proposed common testing facility will provide quality certification and validation services for local industries to manufacture products for major defence and aerospace companies. "Not only defence and aerospace, even ancillary units of Bhel Trichy will benefit since material grade and quality testing is a key component in manufacturing," N Kanagasabapathy, coordinator, Bhel small-scale industries (Bhelsia), said. The integrated testing lab is set to become operational by December. Tidco said that the lab will run as a non-profit company, generating revenue only to sustain the operations and maintenance.

Dharwad: District minister Santosh Lad has affirmed his commitment to the overall development of the newly formed Alnavar taluk. He said continuous efforts are being made to make Alnavar a model taluk by taking up various development works. Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the construction of Praja Soudha in Alnavar on Tuesday, the minister expressed his commitment to developing Alnavar taluk holistically and providing all necessary basic infrastructure to both the taluk headquarters and every village within the taluk. "The state govt has sanctioned Rs 8.6 crore for the construction of the Praja Soudha, which will include modern amenities for public and administrative use," Lad said. "Though the Praja Soudha is being constructed on the outskirts of the town, the area will soon become central as Alnavar expands," he said. Cabinet will discuss JAC demands, CM firm on resolving employees' issues: Bhatti
Hyderabad: Ahead of the cabinet meeting on Thursday, deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka-led cabinet sub-committee held talks with govt employees' JAC leaders on Wednesday and assured them that the Congress govt considered their 57 demands as genuine. "Despite financial constraints, the CM is firm on resolving their issues. The cabinet sub-committee will submit a report to the govt with its recommendations, and the cabinet meeting on Thursday will decide which of the financial intensive and other demands will be accepted," Bhatti said. Sources told TOI that the cabinet meeting was likely to give preference to clearing a significant quantum of the pending Rs 10,000 bills of the employees and may announce release of one Dearness Allowance and time frame for another DA. The govt may also accept demand of new health cards, but a final decision on "cashless and capless treatment" would be taken after cabinet discussion. The govt may also revise the treatment slabs fixed nearly nine years ago. However, contrary to expectations, sources said the cabinet may not decide on enhancing the retirement age from the present 61 to 64 years following intelligence reports on severe backlash from students and youth. We are confident that tomorrow's cabinet meeting will find solutions to many of the demands of the JAC," he said while emphasising the need for their cooperation so that neither the public nor employees face difficulties. He said that it was due to financial issues resulting from the past decade's governance that bills and other demands of the employees piled up. "The Congress is continuing many welfare schemes of the previous government and is also implementing its own promises. Also, new schemes not announced in the manifesto have been launched. All this is being done without any additional tax on the citizens. The govt is committed to addressing employees' demands as part of this effort," Bhatti said. On their part, the JAC leaders said they would decide their future course of action based on the cabinet decision. The JAC has threatened to launch protest programmes in a phased manner, followed by a pen-down strike from June 9 onwards, if at least some of their important demands are not met. The JAC has demanded 51% fitment (PRC), release of at least three of the five pending DAs and Rs 10,000 crore employees bills, new health cards with cashless and capless treatment, revision of old rates of medical treatment and a number of non-financial issues such as general transfers. Besides these issues, the cabinet meeting on Thursday is also expected to discuss the approval of loans to unemployed youth under Rajiv Yuva Vikasam, implementation status of various development projects and those to be launched with central assistance, and national dam safety authority and vigilance reports.
