Two people killed after helicopter hits power line and crashes into barge on Mississippi River
The St. Charles County Police Department in Missouri confirmed to Fox News Digital the aircraft crashed into a barge on the river and caught fire along the Illinois and Missouri border near Alton, Illinois.
Two people are confirmed dead, according to CCPD spokesperson Cpl. Barry Bales.
The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
The helicopter was owned by a company that services power lines, though the company involved has not yet been confirmed, according to Bales.
The work involved the installation, replacement and maintenance of the large orange marker balls that are placed on power lines to alert aircraft to their presence, he said.
No other injuries or fatalities were immediately confirmed.

KCMO, Jackson County election boards reveal plans for Frank White recall election
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – Plans for the upcoming special recall election that will decide Frank White's future as Jackson County Executive are becoming clearer. Election boards in both Jackson County and Kansas City, Missouri, revealed plans on Monday morning, including no-excuse absentee voting, which begins on Tuesday, Aug. 19. North Kansas City police investigating after deadly shooting Voting managers in both locations will have 143 total polling places available for voters leading up to the Sept. 30 special recall election. They're hopeful voting locations like the Maywood Baptist Church on Winner Road are busy. Election managers aren't sure what to expect in terms of voter turnout. Tammy Brown, Jackson County Election Board Director, said this special election, which will determine Frank White's fate as Jackson County Executive, will cost county budgets nearly $2 million. Brown said a short one-page one-item ballot should make for quick lines at the polls. Brown said letters to inform voters of this special election will be mailed out after Aug. 26. 'They won't see any difference other than not having to vote on an 8 1/2 by 11-inch ballot front and back. It's going to be an 8 1/2 by 11 with one question on it. In and out,' Brown said. This will make four elections for the year in Independence, counting the upcoming general election in November. In Kansas City, Missouri, Lauri Elom, one of the city's election managers, said 40 standard polling locations and six satellite locations for voters are planned. Elom said she'd love to see a 25 percent voter turnout in the city. 'I think the turnout will be substantial based on the fact this is what the voters wanted,' Elom said. 'All elections are important, but these are the elections where your voices are heard with the people that make the differences in our direct environment.' A dozen people arrested in connection with human trafficking in the Northland, metro Elom commented the quick period to plan this election is tricky, since elections are usually planned for a year ahead of time.
