Microsoft finally rolls out controversial ‘Recall' feature to Copilot+ PCs

Indian Express27-04-2025

After months of delay and scrutiny from several analysts regarding privacy aspects, on Friday, Microsoft rolled out the headline feature of Copilot+ PCs – Recall – along with a few more AI experiences such as improved search and click-to-do, for select Windows 11 PCs.
'Windows has always been the place where computing innovation happens first. This was the case when we introduced Copilot+ PCs last May – the fastest, most intelligent and most secure Windows PCs ever built, and continues today with the general availability (GA) of exclusive AI experiences like Recall (preview), Click To Do (preview) and improved Windows Search across Copilot+ PCs,' writes Navjot Virk, corporate vice president, Windows Experiences.
These features will be available for Snapdragon, Intel, and AMD-powered Copilot+ PCs. However, the text action capability in click-to-do will be limited to Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ branded PCs.
Microsoft first introduced Copilot+ branded Windows PCs back in May 2024, calling them 'the fastest, most intelligent, and most secure Windows PCs ever built.' According to the Redmond-based company, 15 per cent of all premium PCs bought as of January 2025 were Copilot+ PCs, which initially cost at least $999 at launch, but prices have since dropped to $599. The portfolio includes models powered by Snapdragon, Intel, and AMD chips.
According to Microsoft, a Copilot+ branded PC delivers 13 per cent faster performance compared to the latest MacBook Air M4, up to five times more performance compared to a five-year-old Windows PC, and leads the chart in battery life, offering up to 22 hours of video playback or 15 hours of web browsing per charge.
Users who own a Copilot+ branded PC can download and install the latest build of Windows 11 – the April 2025 Windows non-security preview update to get access to Recall and click-to-do, which are still in the preview phase. However, European users will need to wait a few more months to gain access to the same.
While Recall, an opt-in experience, takes screenshots to help users remember all the tasks done on a PC, click-to-do is an AI-assisted writing tool similar to Apple Intelligence. It allows users to summarise, correct spelling and grammar, rewrite text, and even remove objects from images. Lastly, the improved Windows search makes it easier to find any file stored on a PC with contextual searching capabilities.

Xbox full-screen experience on the cards: Microsoft and Asus collab pays off, here's all about it

Two of the world's top tech giants, Microsoft and Asus, joined hands to develop not one, but two Xbox Ally handhelds, which will give users a full-screen experience, along with a new kind of gaming experience. Both of them are part of the Project Kennan initiative that includes thorough development into newer gaming consoles, making them handheld-friendly and reducing the complexity of the Windows platform. One of them is the White ROG Xbox Ally handheld device, which is designed for a standard 720p gaming experience. Then comes the all-powerful black ROG Xbox Ally, which is equipped to support a 900p to 1080p gaming experience. Both of them share a similar screen size and resolution, but the black is more powerful than the white, especially because of its build and gaming support. It also matches the ROG Ally and Ally X, which also have the same 7-inch 1080p screen along with a 120Hz refresh rate. (This story is under development. Please come back for more information.)

Noida power boost: Sector 25 transformer upgraded to 10 MVA; 20k consumers in 3 sectors to benefit

NOIDA: Over 20,000 consumers in Sectors 25, 21, and 12 are set to receive a better power supply as the transformer capacity at the 33/11 kV substation in Sector 25 was increased from 5 MVA to 10 MVA on Saturday. According to officials, this was done to address the increasing load on the existing transformer amid rising power demand in the area. With the capacity enhancement, the power distribution network of the three sectors will experience a more streamlined supply. "On June 7, the work of increasing the capacity of the power converter from 5 MVA to 10 MVA was completed at the substation in Sector 25 under the business plan works of 2024-25. With this work, an uninterrupted power supply will be provided to the consumers of Sectors 25, 21, and 12, especially in the summer season," said Sanjay Kumar Jain, Chief Engineer, Noida power department, PVVNL. Earlier, on May 21, a new transformer of 5 MVA was installed at Sector 80. With that, consumers of Sectors 80 and 112 were targeted to benefit from the infrastructure upgrade, said Jain. Jain further stated that this step was taken due to the increase in demand for electricity in the summer months. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Windows Users Don't Forget To Do This Before Sunday Read More Undo "Given the increasing heat and power consumption, this upgradation was the need of the hour. This work will not only increase the availability of electricity but will also maintain the stability of voltage, which will provide relief to consumers from the problem of low voltage or power cuts," he said. According to a power department official, the capacity of power substations is being increased as per requirement, not apart from designated areas where they are scheduled for upgrade. The move follows extensive surveys conducted earlier of densely populated areas and the successive power demand over the years. As against the current power demand of 1700 to 1800 MW, the peak power demand in Noida is expected to cross 2700 MW in July and August. As per Ramesh Chandra, Executive Engineer of the Sector 25 substation, the transformer capacity enhancement was done keeping in mind the needs of both industrial and residential sectors.
