ED charges Hyderabad firm in case of illegal Tramadol export to Pakistan
The investigation began following a Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) complaint alleging illegal exports, contravention of NDPS Act orders, and forgery of records linked to export authorisations. Those named in the complaint include the company's managing director Vinod Jain, associate vice-president Devarasetty Sai Vikas, logistics and sales executive Gangula Eswara Rao, and others.
According to the ED, the Lucent Drugs had been manufacturing and exporting Tramadol to various overseas clients, including those in Pakistan. While the company initially obtained clearance from the Central Bureau of Narcotics for exports to Pakistan, later approvals were denied. 'To bypass the ban, the accused allegedly re-exported 13,800 kg of Tramadol worth about ₹4.12 crore to Pakistan through a Denmark-based company, CHR Olesen Pharmaceuticals, and 5,000 kg worth about ₹1.34 crore via Malaysia-based SM Biomed,' an officer from ED said.
The ED said that the illegal shipments generated proceeds of crime totalling ₹5.46 crore, which were routed into the company's bank accounts and later mixed with legitimate business revenues to disguise their origin.
Earlier, the agency had attached the company's immovable properties, including a building and factory premises, valued at ₹5.46 crore.

Bhopal: The Jabalpur bench of the Madhya Pradesh high court pulled up Sagar's Dr Hari Singh Gour Central University and said that the university had shown 'complete disregard for the rule of law and violated legal principles and administrative fairness' by appointing 157 assistant professors against 82 sanctioned posts. Odisha-based activist Deepak Gupta had filed a petition stating that the university illegally appointed assistant professors in 2013 and challenged the minutes of the meeting of the executive council of the university for passing a resolution in 2022 to validate the appointments. 'It is highly impermissible in law and amounts to granting undue benefits to the assistant professors, who are illegally appointed in the University without following any procedure known to law,' the petition read. The court order said, 'It seems the university does not respect rule of law at all and has decided to disregard all legal principles and fairness in administrative action and is regarding its own stand before this court, order of this court, result of visitorial inquiry, advice of the visitor and its own acceptance of the advice, as waste papers and subordinate to the later acquired wisdom of the executive council, and suddenly take U-turn in the year 2023 and say that all the selections are valid and legal and have been made after rigorous scrutiny and selection.' 'Such an action by the university cannot be given stamp of approval by this court because if such a decision of the executive council is given stamp of approval it would only perpetuate the illegality and nothing else and would create heart-burn and violate legal rights of the candidates who have been short-changed by the university by adopting to illegal process of selection,' the order added. 'The university has been defending its case on legal technicalities like the question of delay, locus, impleadment, power of visitor, etc... No technicality can wipe out the illegalities,' it said. Pulling up the university, the court said, 'The university, for reasons best known to it, does not want to take corrective action and wants to perpetuate the illegality in a most wanton, illegal and shameless manner. The impugned decision taken in the executive council meeting in 2022 is set aside. The process of recruitment be carried out and completed within a period of three months. If the process is not completed within three months, then the assistant professors appointed in the year 2013 in pursuance to the process shall cease to hold their post w.e.f. 15.11.2025. If the process is completed prior to that date, then only those assistant professors will be retained who are found eligible in re-assessment and re-interviews to be conducted as per decision of the executive council taken in its meeting in February 2020.'

No Immediate Threat To Nimisha Priya In Yemen, Negotiations Underway, SC Told
Priya was convicted in 2017, sentenced to death in 2020 and her final appeal was rejected in 2023. She is imprisoned in a jail in the Yemen capital Sana. The Supreme Court on Thursday was informed that there was 'no immediate threat" to Indian nurse Nimisha Priya, who is on death row in Yemen for murder. The apex court then listed the matter after eight weeks. The information was provided to the Supreme Court by the counsel representing 'Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council', a panel extending legal support to the Kerala-based nurse. The counsel for the petitioner organisation, Save Nimisha Priya, requested a bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta to adjourn the matter. 'Negotiations are going on. As of now, there is no immediate threat. Kindly adjourn it by four weeks. Hopefully, everything will be over by that time," the counsel was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. 'Let this matter be listed after eight weeks," the bench then said. The apex court was hearing a plea seeking a direction to the Centre to use diplomatic channels to save the 38-year-old nurse from Palakkad in Kerala who was convicted of murdering her Yemeni business partner in 2017. The petitioner's counsel said they would mention the matter before the top court if there was any urgency. The top court was apprised last month that Priya's execution, which was scheduled for July 16, had been stayed. The Centre on July 18 informed the top court that efforts were on and the government was trying everything possible to ensure Priya came out safely. The petitioner organisation sought a Centre-appointed delegation to go to Yemen to meet the murder victim's family for negotiations. The petitioner's counsel had earlier said Priya's mother was in Yemen to negotiate with the victim's family and she has gone there as the Delhi High Court asked the Centre to give her permission to travel. The petitioner's counsel had earlier told the apex court that payment of blood money to the family of the deceased permissible under the Sharia law could be explored.
