My 78-year-old patient fell so I had no choice but to admit her to hospital. The seven days she spent there will kill her early. Shocking dispatch that reveals what every patient must know, by PROFESSOR ROB GALLOWAY
What do you want from a doctor? Someone you can see when you need to, obviously; someone who cares – but in the end that doesn't matter as much as someone who knows their stuff and treats you as a whole patient, rather than made up of parts.
Recently, I saw a 78-year-old woman with an infected diabetic ulcer who'd had a bad fall. She was taking more than 15 medications, prescribed by various specialists over the years, each one looking after their area of expertise – with pills for depression, anxiety, insomnia, high cholesterol, heart failure, angina, hypertension and asthma.

Kris Jenner follows daughter Kylie's lead and makes shock plastic surgery admission
has shared that she and daughter Kylie Jenner share the same plastic surgeon after the 27-year-old opened up about her breast augmentation in 2019. Kris, 69, shared that Dr Garth Fisher was also responsible for her 2011 facelift and called him a 'close and treasured friend.' Kris praised Fisher for performing her first facelift and thanked him for allowing cameras in the operating room. In the comment section of the surgeon's Instagram, Kris wrote: 'Garth you are such a superstar class act!! You did my first facelift in 2011… 14 years ago!!! '[You] made it the most amazing experience ever and even gave us access to film so that others could get a peek inside what it's like and not be afraid… you have taken great care of us always and remain such a close and treasured friend!! Such an incredible talent!!' Indeed, Kris' facelift was filmed for an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Kris went under the knife to rejuvenate her face ahead of daughter Kim Kardashian's wedding to Kris Humphries. In the episode, Kris is in tears as she sits in the waiting room surrounded by her children. Clearly getting more nervous before the procedure Kris says: 'I don't want to die.' Kim soothes her by saying: 'Don't be nervous. If you're scared you don't have to do this. I'm sure everyone gets scared.' The children then pile on top of their mother for a group hug before they wave her off to surgery. While recovering from the operation, Kim assured her mom that the results were already positive. She said: 'Mom, you look fab. So gorgeous.' More recently Kris has been rocking a much more youthful complexion that has sparked facelift rumors. A rep for Kris recently confirmed that she sought the expertise of Dr Steven Levine - known as the 'facelift maestro' - to help her achieve her new look, according to Page Six. While the exact procedure Kris underwent remains unclear, the New York based plastic surgeon specializes in 'natural-looking enhancements of the face, breasts, and body' as per his website. Kris' shout-out to Fisher comes after Kylie revealed the surgeon performed her 2019 boob job. In response to her revelation, Fisher said he was 'honored' for the recognition while stressing the lengths he takes to ensure patient confidentiality at his practice. Fisher said: 'I'm honored to be acknowledged by Kylie - her kind post was unexpected but truly appreciated. 'Patient confidentiality has always been the foundation of my practice. Over 3 decades, we've never had a single breach. My entire team is thoroughly trained and bound by strict NDAs and confidentiality agreements. 'This is more than policy - it's our culture.' The surgeon added: 'HIPAA laws are in place to protect patients, and I will never discuss any details of a procedure unless the patient has chosen to share them or given me permission. 'Every patient is unique. This isn't "cookbook" surgery - it's thoughtful, personalized care.' Fisher is famed for being the man behind many of the Kardashian and Jenner family procedures. The board-certified surgeon also did Kourtney Kardashian's breast augmentation and removed a tumor from Khloe's face. He even gave a pre-transition Caitlyn Jenner a revision facelift, which was also featured on an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

Ahead of Glastonbury, Rod Stewart cancels two concerts because of flu
Rod Stewart has cancelled two concerts this week while he recovers from a bout of flu. As he considers one of the biggest gigs of his life later this month, playing to what is likely to be more than 100,000 people at Glastonbury's Pyramid stage, Stewart cancelled performances at the Colosseum theatre in Caesar's Palace, Las Vegas. The first, on Monday night, was called off a few hours before the show began, and rescheduled for 10 June. Writing on Instagram, Stewart complained of 'not feeling well'. Now Stewart has cancelled a Thursday concert, too, apologising to fans and explaining: 'My doctor ordered a bit more rest while I recover from the flu. Thanks for your love and understanding.' He has not announced whether that concert will be rescheduled. Stewart has had a few health setbacks this year. He cancelled three concerts in January after suffering both strep throat and Covid in the space of a few days, and after a concert in May, he was seen with a sign around his neck reading: 'Sorry. Cannot talk. Having vocal rest.' The 80-year-old is currently on his One Last Time tour, which he has said will be his last time doing a 'large-scale world tour'. Speaking in November 2024, he added: 'I have no desire to retire. I love what I do, and I do what I love … I'd like to move on to a Great American Songbook, Swing Fever tour [in 2026] – smaller venues and more intimacy.' He is set to perform the Sunday teatime 'legends' slot at Glastonbury, made even more nostalgic and crowd pleasing this year as it will be followed by Nile Rodgers & Chic. That evening's music will then be rounded out by Noah Kahan and Olivia Rodrigo. Stewart returned to the top of the charts in 2024 with his album Swing Fever, a collaboration with Jools Holland.

Ted Cruz leads senators in plan to designate June Pro-Life Month during Pride Month
While last week marked the start of Pride Month, Ted Cruz is leading more than two dozen senators in an effort to designate June as 'Life Month.' The Texas lawmaker introduced the joint ''Life Month Resolution' to the upper chamber Tuesday to 'recognize that every human life is a sacred gift from God,' it states. 'Every human life is worthy of protection, and it is especially incumbent upon Americans and lawmakers to protect the most vulnerable among us,' Cruz said in a statement. 'Designating June as Life Month is a recommitment to the American principle that every life has dignity. I call on my colleagues in the Senate to swiftly pass this resolution.' Cruz's office stated that the resolution was intended to commemorate the third anniversary of the Supreme Court's landmark decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which occurred on June 24, 2022. President Donald Trump has repeatedly bragged about being able to 'kill Roe v. Wade ' by installing three conservative Supreme Court justices to reverse the decision. While Cruz did not explicitly express the aim to replace any other awareness month, social media users were quick to argue that the resolution contradicts June's recognition as Pride Month, which celebrates LGBTQ+ individuals and communities worldwide. 'June is pride month, ted cruz,' one person responded to Cruz on X. 'The month was already called for; find another one,' another added, this time directed at Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville, who co-sponsored the resolution. A total of 26 GOP senators have also co-sponsored the resolution, including conservative firebrands Tuberville, John Cornyn of Texas, and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina. 'If we are going to dedicate entire months to recognizing every group under the sun, the least we can do is dedicate June to protecting unborn babies,' Tuberville tweeted Wednesday. The resolution is also supported by 22 anti-abortion organizations, including Christian legal advocacy group Alliance Defending Freedom and Heritage Action, a subsidiary of the far-right think tank the Heritage Foundation. A companion resolution was introduced to the House by New Jersey Representative Chris Smith, who said it calls for Americans to put a stop to the 'dismembering [of] helpless babies with sharp knife-like curettes or poisoning babies with pills that literally starve them to death and often result in their bodies being flushed down a toilet.'
