Post your questions for Guy Pearce
Maybe you prefer your Pearce going backwards in Christopher Nolan's Memento; time-travelling back to 1899 in an adaptation of HG Wells's The Time Machine; at sea in The Count of Monte Cristo; or all-too-briefly at war in The Hurt Locker. He's also done royal drama (The King's Speech, Mary Queen of Scots) and he's done biopics (Andy Warhol in Factory Girl and Harry Houdini in Death Defying Acts). He's been into space (Prometheus and Alien: Covenant) and he's breathed fire (Iron Man 3).
He's made two Aussie westerns with John Hillcoat (Lawless, The Proposition) and two yet gnarlier contemporary tales set in his homeland (Animal Kingdom, The Rover). And earlier this year he was Oscar-nominated for his role as a wealthy industrialist in The Brutalist. He didn't win the Academy Award, but he made a lot of new fans with his candour about marriage, Palestine, and his feelings about LA Confidential co-star Kevin Spacey.
Pearce also won an Emmy for his role in the Todd Haynes miniseries Mildred Pierce, and was excellent in Mare of Easttown – both opposite Kate Winslet. He released two solo albums in the 2010s, and dresses up as a dishevelled superhero in the video to Razorlight's Before I Fall to Pieces. But, of course, there are some of us who will never get beyond thinking of him as good old Mike from Neighbours – a role to which he returned with winning welly in the finale-that-wasn't-a-finale.
Now Pearce returns as a soon-to-be-paroled inmate in hard-hitting prison drama Inside, for which he has excitingly agreed to take the reader interview chair. There's plenty to ask the actor. Was he really second choice behind Christian Bale for Batman? Does he claim to be Australian or English? (Pearce was born in England but moved to Australia when he was three.) Can anyone – let alone he – remember the name of the character he played in Home and Away? Or the name of the No 156 single he released in 1989? Why does he think that he's 'shit' in Memento? And how are his knees these days?
Please get your questions in by 6pm this Sunday, 20 July, and we'll print his answers in Film & Music and online on 1 August.
Inside is out on digital, DVD and Blu-ray on 11 August

Sophie Turner claims she broke up A-list couple with one tiny move at Hollywood afterparty
Sophie Turner sent fans into overdrive with a wild confession — claiming she was to blame for a celebrity couple calling off their engagement after a single run-in at a Hollywood soiree. The Game of Thrones star, 29, who recently clapped back at critics for shaming her as a single mom, laid it all out during her Thursday appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. As she and Meyers reminisced about first meeting over a decade ago at San Diego Comic-Con, Turner revealed the night 'quickly went south' at the event's afterparty. 'We were going to have a great night… and I can't name names 'cause I'll get in trouble… but I had brought my best friend from school days and she saw an actor she absolutely loved and asked if I could just say hi…' Turner began. She admitted she'd never met the unidentified actor before, so she gave him a weak little wave from across the crowd. 'And that was it,' she said… But it wasn't. The Game of Thrones star, 29, who recently clapped back at critics for shaming her as a single mom , laid it all out during her Thursday appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers 'And then later on I see this girl looking at me and she's a famous actress and I was like 'I have to go tell her how much she means to me',' Sophie recalled. 'So I dance on over and she goes, 'Can you stop f****** flirting with my fiancee?' And I was like 'Who's your fiancee?' And she points to the guy that I waved at and I still have no idea who this man is.' She concluded, 'Turns out, they broke their engagement off that night because of my [wave].' With a laugh, she added: 'I didn't realize I held this power.' The jaw-dropping confession comes just over a week after Turner fired back at a troll who accused her of having 'forgotten' she was a mother of two. On August 4, the Game of Thrones alum posted a carousel of snaps from a concert. While most followers loved seeing her enjoying a night out, one commenter decided to throw shade. 'Lmfao, I think she has forgotten that she has two kids,' the troll wrote beneath her post. Turner, who shares daughters Willa, five, and Delphine, three, with ex-husband Joe Jonas, wasted no time in clapping back. 'Ah I'm so sorry sometimes I forget some people can't think for themselves,' she shot back. 'So… Get this… There's this crazy thing called shared custody. Maybe, just maybe, they were with their dad that day.' Her razor-sharp reply was met with applause, as fans rushed to defend her. 'Why can't a mom of two kids do this??' one person asked. 'No one ever asks a Dad where their kids are [eye roll emoji],' another pointed out. 'Moms can have fun for the love of God,' a third declared. Others noted that Jonas is currently on the JONAS20: Living The Dream tour, performing 52 concerts across the globe. Turner's unapologetic response comes less than a year after she and Jonas reached a co-parenting agreement in October 2023, ending a heated custody battle that followed his September 2024 divorce filing. Despite their rocky split, Jonas has publicly praised his ex. 'I have a beautiful co-parenting relationship that I'm really grateful for,' he told motivational speaker Jay Shetty in a TikTok interview. 'Having an incredible mom, Sophie, for those girls is like a dream come true.' He added that it's important for his daughters to have strong female influences in their lives. 'I think what values I want for them are to be open-minded and have a big heart, be able to walk into any room and feel confidence and know that they can do literally anything they want. As young girls, looking up to great women is what I want for them,' Jonas said. When asked if his daughters might follow in their famous parents' footsteps, he admitted: 'We might want them to wait a little while.' Turner herself has been candid about the strain of her public breakup. 'I mean, those were the worst few days of my life,' the Joan actress told Vogue last year. 'I remember I was on set, I was contracted to be on set for another two weeks, so I couldn't leave. My kids were in the States, and I couldn't get to them because I had to finish [ITV drama] Joan. 'It hurt because I really do completely torture myself over every move I make as a mother – mom guilt is so real,' she admitted. Joe and Sophie started dating in 2016, and he proposed one year later; they then eloped in Las Vegas in 2019, which was followed by a lavish wedding celebration in France that summer. By that time, Turner had already cemented herself as a household name for her role as Sansa Stark on HBO's Game of Thrones, which had just wrapped its eight-season run. Joe was also enjoying a career resurgence with the Jonas Brothers' reunion, releasing their chart-topping album Happiness Begins and embarking on a global tour. In the years that followed, Turner took on film roles like X-Men: Dark Phoenix and led the upcoming ITV drama Joan, while Joe kept busy touring and recording with his brothers. But despite their high-profile romance and public appearances as one of Hollywood's most-watched young couples, the pair announced their split in 2023, finalizing their divorce the following year.

Reality TV star Matt Wright's 'abusive' tirade revealed as he faces three counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice
Reality TV star Matt Wright was 'hostile and abusive' to his helicopter pilots when they stopped crocodile-egg collecting because of a bad storm and went to the pub, a jury has heard. Wright has pleaded not guilty to three counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice after a February 28 chopper crash that killed Outback Wrangler co-star Chris 'Willow' Wilson. Pilot Sebastian Robinson was left a paraplegic after the crash and has been giving evidence in the Supreme Court in Darwin by video link from his wheelchair. Prosecutors allege Wright was worried crash investigators would discover flight-time meters were disconnected regularly to extend flying hours beyond official thresholds and paperwork was falsified. Crown prosecutor Jason Gullaci SC on Friday asked Mr Robinson about a storm on January 26, 2022 that prompted him and fellow pilot Michael Burbidge to call off crocodile-egg collecting at the Daly River mouth. 'It was huge ... across the whole horizon, going fast,' the 32-year-old said. To sling egg collectors below a helicopter onto croc nests in such a storm was 'very dangerous' for pilots and egg collectors, he said. The crews flew their choppers out and went to the Noonamah Tavern for a beer but when Wright heard his reaction was 'very hostile and abusive', Mr Robinson said. He said Wright phoned him saying; 'What the f*** are youse doing back? Egg collecting is not meant to be easy, you wait the weather out ... and get on with the job.' 'I told him to get f***ed, get vaccinated and fly his own helicopter,' Mr Robinson told the court, referring to Wright being an anti-vaxxer who was unable to fly into Arnhem Land because of COVID-19 restrictions. Wright's tirade contributed to Mr Robinson's desire to leave Wright's Helibrook company and run his own helicopter operation, he said. In phone messages the next day Wright apologised to his pilots and egg collectors for 'blowing up' at them but he had been under pressure with other missions, the court heard. Mr Robinson previously admitted cocaine use and supply but has told the court he never flew helicopters while high. In a pre-crash text message exchange played to the court on Thursday, Mr Robinson said he was 'crook as a dog', with a friend texting back, 'snorting too much coke out of Matty's arse', in a reference to Wright. In a line of questioning stemming from that on Friday, Mr Gullaci asked Mr Robinson: 'Have you ever sniffed cocaine off Mr Wright's arse crack?' 'Absolutely not,' Mr Robinson replied. 'Have you ever given anyone a blow job to get cocaine,' Mr Gullaci then asked, again getting a negative response. 'That's woken the jury up,' Acting Justice Allan Blow said, as Wright chuckled in the dock. Senior defence counsel David Edwardson KC on Friday accused Mr Robinson of concocting a story Wright had asked him to manipulate helicopter flying hours. Mr Robinson has said Wright asked him at his hospital bedside in Brisbane 11 days after the crash to transfer flying hours from the crashed chopper IDW onto Mr Robinson's ZXZ machine, which he declined to do. Mr Edwardson put it to Mr Robinson the conversation about manipulating flying hours never happened. But Mr Robinson said he remembered Wright saying something along the lines, 'we might have to put some hours across onto ZXZ'. Mr Robinson has also told the court he remembered at the hospital his phone was in Wright's hand and he was deleting items from it, which he believed to be helicopter flight times. But Mr Edwardson put it to Mr Robinson that was an 'absolute falsehood' because Wright never touched his phone and did not delete any messages. Mr Robinson said he disagreed. The charges against Wright do not relate to the cause of the accident and the prosecution does not allege he is responsible for either the crash, Mr Wilson's death or Mr Robinson's injuries. The trial continues.

Soap ‘mega-hunk' looks unrecognisable as he reunites with co-star and returns to show 20 years after quitting
A NEIGHBOURS "mega-hunk" looks unrecognisable as he reunites with one of his 90s' co-stars. This actor, now 55, has returned to Ramsay Street 20 years after quitting the Aussie soap. 5 5 5 5 Soap star Richard Grieve is back in Erinsborough, as Neighbours gets ready to bid farewell for a second time. Die-hard fans of the soap will remember him for playing Sam Kratz, who during his time on the soap became a pin-up on teenagers' bedroom walls. Richard's character rode into Ramsay Street in 1994 on a motorcycle clad in a leather jacket. He was an instant hit, and soon secured his Neighbours star heartthrob status. Richard previously revealed how he was unsure about attending the audition for Sam, after he learned that producers were looking for "a mega-hunk". However, he borrowed a leather jacket to make himself look more like the character, and he was told that he had the role a week after the audition. After leaving Neighbours in 1996, he joined rival soap Home and Away, playing Dr Lachlan Fraser. H. Staying with soaps, he then headed to blighty and starred in Emmerdale for two years until 2009. Sam is joined in his Neighbours return by Kimberley Davies, who appeared as Annalise Hartman from 1993 to 1996. The 52-year-old later moved to the United States, appearing in episodes of Friends and Ally McBeal. 90s soap bombshell hasn't aged a day as she returns to show twenty years after quitting The pair were pictured reuniting in a promo picture for their forthcoming return. Meanwhile, it comes after it was recently revealed how the final episode of Neighbours could reportedly 'fall flat"' - due to a lack of legends returning. So far, Richard and Kimberley are the only ones. Earlier this year, the beloved Aussie soap was axed for a second time, having been saved by Amazon after 37 years on Channel 5. The original finale saw Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan return to Ramsay Street, alongside other show alums. However, bosses' attempts to bring back A-listers this time around have reportedly not panned out. According to Daily Mail Australia, stars such as Margot Robbie, Natalie Imbruglia, Guy Pearce and Russell Crowe are all said to have snubbed the final episode. An insider told the publication: "The cast of the current season will need to rely on the storylines that involve their characters, because breaking out the cheque book won't cover it." Regarding the 2022 finale, the source added: "The mega stars waived their usual million dollar fees and felt like they were waving goodbye to the show that launched them. It was very classy. "The fact that Alan Fletcher, Jackie Woodburn and Ryan Maloney were tipped off as the show was saved during Neighbours' 'farewell tour' was pretty awkward in retrospect." The last episode of Neighbours will air on December 11. Neighbours stars who made it big The long-running Aussie soap has launched the careers of some of Hollywood's biggest stars. Here are some of the Neighbours alums who went on to make it big after starring on the soap... Kylie Minogue Before she hit the big time with her music career, Kylie shot to fame playing Charlene Mitchell on Neighbours. Shortly after her arrival, Kylie began an on and off-screen romance with co-star Jason Donovan, who played Scott Robinson, which gained the couple an army of adoring fans. Jason Donovan After his stint as Scott, singer and actor Jason became an international popstar and had his pick acting of roles. He moved to the U.K., married, had children and has since starred in over a dozen West End show, most notably Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat. Alan Dale New Zealand born actor Alan was one of Neighbours 12 original cast members having made his debut as Jim Robinson on the soap's first episode on 18 March 1985. As the head of the Robinson clan, widower Jim lived at Number 26 Ramsay Street with his children Paul, Julie, Scott and Lucy, and was a real anchor in the community. He stayed with the show for eight years, before his character was killed off in dramatic scenes aired in 1993 but which still reverberate through the soap to this day. Margot Robbie Way before she was Barbie or Harley Quinn, Margot was best known as Ramsay Street resident Donna Freedman. Her notable storylines included her marriage to Ringo Brown and becoming a young widow following his tragic death. After three years she bid farewell to the soap and Australia with a plan to make a name for herself in Hollywood which she did when she bagged the role of Naomi Lapaglia opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street. Jesse Spencer Jesse rocked up on Ramsay street in 1994 with the rest of the Kennedy clan. He stayed for five years, literally growing up in front of the camera, but in 2000 felt it was time to spread his wings and head for Hollywood. It was certainly a smart move as he went on to bag leading roles in popular shows like House and Chicago Fire. Russell Crowe New Zealand-native Russell had a brief arc on Neighbours, appearing in four episodes of the soap 1987 as Kenny Larkin, the former cellmate of Street resident Henry Ramsay. The role obviously got him noticed though because he quickly went on to become a fully-fledged Hollywood A-lister, winning the Best Actor Oscar for his standout performance as Roman General Maximus Decimus Meridius in Gladiator.
