Part Breaking Bad, part Inbetweeners: this British series is a wild ride

Stags ★★½
For those of us who have never undergone that strange ritual known as the 'stag do', the excesses of such an affair can seem a trifle baffling. This is especially so when, as depicted in more than one British TV show, a stag do doesn't just involve a night out on the tiles, but a full-blown overseas getaway with the boys – a debauched celebration that must surely cost a bucketload.
In any case, in six-part British comedy-drama Stags, the really wild stuff doesn't happen at the stag do, but in the dreadful aftermath.
The do is nuts enough: groom-to-be Stu takes his friends on a trip to an unnamed South American country, where they drink and take drugs and puke and generally behave like the very worst stereotypes of English lad culture. Weary and hungover, they then embark on the trip home, looking forward to a fairytale wedding. Unfortunately at the airport one of their numbers, Greg, collapses and is found to have a stomach filled with balloons of cocaine. Cue loud and violent police, and the stags are whisked away to a remote prison with no idea of where they are or what they can do to get out of there.

But the plot is even thicker than this. For the prison is no ordinary prison. Surrounded not by walls, but by a minefield, not everyone in there is a prisoner at all. There are children, and even a school. The doctor wields a gun. The governor dials in remotely on a laptop screen. And the whole establishment, it turns out, is actually overseen by two siblings, Selma and Branco: crime kingpins who are at war with one another and to whom the terrified Englishmen quickly find themselves indebted to. Stu and his mates will need to pick a side in the war, it seems, if they are to survive and find their way out.
It is a great setup, and what Stags has going for it, above all, is plot. The story snakes and twists and keeps surprises – at times quite shocking ones – coming thick and fast. The confusion of the lads, thrown without explanation into a frightening ordeal, is palpable and mirrored by the mysteries that we as viewers are eager to unlock.
Unfortunately, not enough attention is paid to the other elements. The ostensible 'heroes' of the piece – the intrepid stags themselves – are introduced to us as boorish, obnoxious gits, and they continue to be. It's difficult to cheer for such unlikeable protagonists, and at times one is very much on the side of the guards and the gangsters, hoping the stupid pillocks get what they deserve.

Prince William implores leaders to act with 'urgency and purpose' to end climate crisis

Prince William has called for global leaders to act with "urgency and purpose" to solve the climate crisis. The Prince of Wales hosted a roundtable meeting highlighting the important work Indigenous people do to protect the environment as he stressed the need to preserve the natural world during the summit at St James's Palace in London on Thursday (26.06.25). William said: "All life begins with nature. Our forests, rivers, and the ocean are not just landscapes, they are the foundation of life on Earth. They regulate our climate, provide food and water, and sustain economies worldwide. "We are here today not only to recognise the truth, but to act on it with urgency and purpose. "Across the world, Indigenous peoples and local communities live in deep relationship with land and sea, guided by knowledge passed down through generations. Nature is not seen as a resource to be extracted, but as something sacred – to live with, respect, and sustain. Their stewardship and protection are among the most effective forces for conservation." The 43-year-old royal added: "If we are serious about achieving climate and biodiversity goals, Indigenous peoples and local communities must be central to the effort as partners, leaders and co-creators of solutions." William believes that "momentum is growing" in the battle against climate change and highlighted the importance of worldwide unity in environmental efforts in the meeting – which formed part of London Climate Action Week. The prince said: "I've invited you here because of our shared goals and the opportunity we have, together, to build a coalition that delivers. This is a moment for courage. We are not starting from zero. "Let us move forward – united in purpose and committed to protecting nature as the foundation for a just and healthy future for all." William teamed up with Australian conservationist Robert Irwin for an event earlier this week and the 21-year-old TV star can see that the heir to the British throne "truly cares" about the environment. Robert – the son of the late Crocodile Hunter star Steve Irwin – told The Sunday Mirror newspaper: "I love being around passionate people, it inspires me. The prince is just that - passionate, curious and thoughtful. I've been fortunate enough to share many great discussions about the things we love about the natural world. And it's clear that he has a profound love for wildlife and wild places. "He knows that he can put a spotlight on people making a real difference. He takes this responsibility very seriously, and he has a great ability to direct attention to where it needs to be. He is very compassionate and works hard to make sure that his conservation efforts benefit people as much as the environment. "I am always impressed by his knowledge and dedication and in the conversations I have had with him, I often learn something new. Most importantly though, he truly cares about a healthy planet for our future generations."

Filmmaker Mark Christopher Lee calls on UK Prime Minister Sir Kier Starmer to reveal the truth about the 1980 Rendlesham UFO incident

British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is being called on to release the truth about the Rendlesham Forest UFO incident. Leading ufologist Mark Christopher Lee's new documentary film The Rendlesham UFO – The British Roswell sees him and collaborator Guy Thompson travel to the woodland in Suffolk, England, which was the location of a major UFO incident on 26 December 1980. The events occurred just outside RAF Woodbridge, which was used at the time by the United States Air Force, and military personell went to investigate "lights" in the surrounding forest. United States Air Force deputy base commander Lieutenant Colonel Charles I. Halt even went on record to say he'd witnessed a UFO. The incident became headline news in the UK and books, films have been made with theories ranging from whether it was an actual alien visit, military testing, human time travellers from the future or a hoax. Mark and Guy's visit left them stunned to discover a non-stop electronic clicking noise, orbs floating through the forest and terrifying howling noises, which, for him, are proof the landing happened and something is still there. At the time late Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher would not reveal any findings, so now Mark has called on the current PM Starmer to open the files and give the public the truth. Speaking at the premiere of the documentray at the Raindance Film Festival in London, Mark said: "We're looking at the most credible UFO case in the world, in my opinion. People think it's Roswell, but it's not, it's Rendlesham Forest in Sussex in the UK. 'Something massive happened in 1980 and something is still happening in this location. 'We went there last year to film an investigation, we caught weirdness on the film, in sound, and its unexplained 'We're calling on the UK government to release the truth because Margaret Thatcher shut it down. She closed the case on it and she told a UFO researcher at the time, 'You can't tell the people.' 'Now is the time for Sir Kier Starmer to tell the people what the truth is about UFOs in the UK." Mark - who is a member of indie punk band The Pocket Gods - admits that he experienced a "strange presence" in Rendlesham Forest and whatever is still going on amongst the trees is a direct result of what occured back in 1980. He added: "There's a strange presence in the forest, I can't explain it. I think it might have something to do with the surrounding areas where a lot of secret government military testing went on. At Marsham Heath and other places they were testing new military technology, including this thing called copper mist. Something to do with that. 'Some people speculate that a portal was opened to other dimensions, I don't know, that seems a bit far out to me. But we picked up strange energies, the EMF reading was going crazy, we saw orbs, we heard sounds. Something weird was happening in Rendlesham Forest." The Rendlesham UFO – The British Roswell is available to stream on Amazon Prime now.

Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom split: Insider claims six-year engagement over, reveals how pop singer is coping

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have reportedly split after almost a decade of dating. A source close to the A-list pair revealed that while Perry is upset about the relationship ending, she is relieved she doesn't have to go through another divorce. 'Katy and Orlando have split but are amicable,' an insider told US Weekly. 'It's not contentious at the moment. Katy is, of course, upset but is relieved to not have to go through another divorce, as that was the worst time in her life.' According to the source, Perry, 40, and Bloom's split has been a 'long time coming' as tensions have simmered behind the scenes for months. It is believed that the pop star told friends in January that her nine-year relationship with the British actor, 48, was practically over. The pair got engaged in early 2019 after dating for three years, before welcoming their now four-year-old daughter Daisy in 2020. For now, Perry is reportedly staying 'distracted' and 'keeping busy' while on tour and caring for her daughter. The California Girls singer has been spotted several times with her daughter while touring Australia this month. Meanwhile, Bloom has made multiple solo public appearances, including a stop at the Tribeca Film Festival to promote an upcoming film. Rumours of a breakup started to intensify when the former couple rented out their $30 million mansion in Montecito, California, to Chris Pratt and his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger. The insider close to the couple said Perry and Bloom always lived in their second Montecito home as their primary residence; however, the pair had intended to establish the rented mansion as 'their family home' before the situation changed. They added that Perry and Bloom have 'been living apart since Katy has been on tour.' This news follows reports that Bloom will attend the controversial wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez in Venice solo, where he will make his 'single man' debut, according to TMZ. Another source told The Sun that the couple decided to hold off on announcing anything in case things improved between them, as they were desperate to stay together for the sake of their daughter. 'But they have spent barely any time together this year, with Katy on tour and Orlando working on his upcoming film Bucking Fastard in Dublin,' the source said. The source claims that Perry knew that taking off her engagement ring would send a clear message. 'It's been a hard year so far. They wanted to wait until the tour is over before they made their split official, although Katy has grown tired of the situation.'
