Rupa bayor wins bronze at australian open taekwondo championship
She triumphed in the 18 to 30 years age group of the individual female Taekwondo recognised poomsae event, marking her third consecutive Australian Open victory over the last three years.
In the first round, Bayor defeated Chinese Taipei, followed by a victory against Australia in the second round. She then overcame the USA in the quarter-finals but lost narrowly to Hong Kong in the semi-finals, securing the bronze medal.
She hoped for a top podium finish this time and promised to win gold in the future.
"I am thankful to the Indo Korean Taekwondo Academy Team, my coach Abhishek Dubey, our team Dr Mohit Shete, and physio Akshay Wagh for ensuring I can win at this level consistently and bring glory for India for the last so many years. My next target is the 2025 Asian Games and later World Championship where I want to win a medal for India," said Bayor.

Her coach Dubey stated, "Rupa is a strong medal contender for next year's Asian Games. Her consistent medal-winning streak at the Australian Open and other major events has made India's presence felt in the International Taekwondo circuit. We would like to thank the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports as well as India Taekwondo for their support for the Australian Open."
Bayor has previously won several medals at events including the South Asian Games, Australian Open, Croatia Open, and other international competitions. She hails from Arunachal Pradesh and trains at the Indo Korean Taekwondo Academy in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Earlier, she won a gold medal at the World Taekwondo President Cup Europe-2023 in Istanbul, becoming the first Indian to secure a gold medal at a WT grade-2 ranked event in the Senior-1 Taekwondo Poomsae category.
