According to the Arconic Eagle Cam Facebook page, eagles Liberty and Justice are tending their first egg of the season.
'Looks like Liberty and Justice have delivered their first egg of the season tonight,' says the Facebook post from Monday.

About the Arconic Bald Eagles
A pair of Bald Eagles joined the Arconic Davenport Works community in Iowa in 2009. They built their 7-foot nest on our 400-acre facility in a tree near the Mississippi River.
In the spring of 2010 they fledged a pair of eaglets and later that year we installed our first Eaglecam. Employees and the community helped name the eagle parents Liberty and Justice. Since the spring of 2010, Liberty and Justice have fledged 16 eaglets from this nest. The first two eaglets fledged in summer 2010 before the camera was installed they were never named.
The 14 that have fledged since then are named: Freedom, Spirit, Faith, Hope, Honor, Glory, Rudy, Star, Sky, Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Windy and Storm.
Since the camera was installed, 35 million visitors from around the world have tuned in to witness an American icon, the Bald Eagle, developing live within this unique eco-system. In the fall and winter the eagles use the nest to eat and prepare the nest for the next season.
Eagles nesting in Iowa typically lay eggs in mid-late February and the eggs hatch in mid-late March. The eaglets grow quickly and are ready to fly 'fledge' in late May or early June. 'Arconic is proud that our unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability is helping conserve our precious natural resources,' the eagle cam website says.

Cuban painter Humberto Calzada, master of perspective and color, died in Miami

On Sunday morning Humberto Calzada, considered one of the most prominent figures in Cuban art in exile, passed away. Born in Havana on May 25, 1944, he moved to Miami at the age of 16 with his parents. During his school years at Saint George's school in Havana, he showed a passion for painting. In the United States, he pursued a career in industrial engineering, graduating at 22 and later obtaining a master's degree in finance. He secured a job at IBM, but his true passion was painting, and in 1970 he decided to dedicate himself exclusively to art. In the late '70s, he became part of a group of Cuban visual artists who came of age in exile. This group was labeled The Miami Generation by art historian, critic, and curator Giulio V. Blanc. Born in Cuba and formed in Miami, they were among the first Latino artists to break into Anglo-American institutional circuits in South Florida. Calzada's work went through several stages. Initially, he clung to realism, reproducing the architecture of mansions or creole estates, transforming them into evocative images. He later shifted to surrealist architectural recreations, blending lyricism and dreamlike qualities, ultimately experimenting with more universal themes or mixing paint with other media, such as photography, in his well-known reconstructions of Havana's ruins. Calzada's work is distinguished by its vibrant colors and the mystique of his surprising, disconcerting perspectives. His narrative subliminally reflects the sense of loss and uprooting experienced by Cubans for more than six decades. His work has been featured in countless exhibitions in galleries and museums as well as significant personal and institutional collections, including Fort Lauderdale Art Museum, Florida International University's Frost Museum, Museo de las Américas (OAS), Lowe Museum at the University of Miami, Denver Art Museum in Colorado, and museums in Chile, Puerto Rico, Panama, among others. The painter passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He is survived by his children, Carolina and Nicolás, and four grandchildren.

Single mom who is a quadruplet gives birth to ‘rainbow' quintuplets after losing first child

A single mother who was born a quadruplet delivered a set of premature quintuplet 'rainbow babies' in Texas after the loss of her first child. Theresa Troia, a 36-year-old nurse consultant, delivered five babies via cesarean section on June 3 at just 28 weeks of gestation. 5 Theresa Troia, a quadruplet herself, delivered quintuplets in early June. Theresa Troia/Facebook A whole team of medical staff at the Las Palmas Medical Center flanked the mother and 'had every second planned and every role ready' to support her through the delivery and months of NICU stays with the quints. Troia gave birth to three daughters, including Isabella and Viviana, and two boys. Isabella and Viviana are identical monochorionic-diamniotic, or Mo-Di, twins, meaning they shared a placenta in utero but grew in amniotic sacs. 5 Troia is a single mother after her relationship with the quintuplet's father fizzled out. Theresa Troia/Facebook The other three children are named Kyla, Joseph and Jaxon. Troia didn't undergo any fertility treatments to conceive the quints and was originally told she would be having quadruplets until one of the fetuses '[chose] to make a grand entrance by splitting into TWO,' she wrote on Facebook. Even with the unexpected extra baby and breakup with their father, Troia insisted that the pregnancy couldn't have been any easier. 5 The quintuplets were delivered at just 28 weeks of gestation. Theresa Troia/Facebook 'I didn't have any nausea, vomiting, cravings, anything like that. I didn't have any swelling. So I was really lucky,' Troia told ABC News. One of the most difficult parts of her pregnancy was not having her mother, who passed away a decade ago, by her side to provide much-needed guidance on how to carry and raise multiples, but she's excited to 'see what it was for her' to raise a small squadron. Still, she's confident in her ability to raise the five babies right based on her own upbringing alongside her three brothers. 5 Troia is a quadruplet with three brothers. Theresa Troia/Facebook 'To me, the normal is multiples, you know, because I don't obviously know any different, but it was nice growing up and always having a sibling there,' Troia told the outlet. It wasn't Troia's first pregnancy, either. In a post celebrating the quints, Troia thanked her 'first baby' for paving the way. 5 Kyla, Isabella and Jaxon were released from the NICU last week. Theresa Troia/Facebook 'Your short life changed everything and transformed my life in ways I can't truly express. I carry all of you — in my body, in my heart and in my soul, forever intertwined,' she wrote. Troia celebrated her new pentad as her 'rainbow babies' — a term frequently used to refer to the first child born after a miscarriage, stillborn, or infant death. The quintuplets were the first-ever to be born in the Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare system, which has two locations in El Paso with NICUs. Kyla, Isabella, and Jaxon were cleared to go home last week while Joseph and Viviana continue their treatment in the NICU. 'They're all doing great and they're all growing. You would never know that they were premature babies or quintuplets, because they're doing so, so good. They're so healthy,' Troia told the outlet.

CARES, City of Binghamton giving away free backpacks, school supplies: Locations and times

More than 1,360 students in the City of Binghamton will have an opportunity to receive free bookbags and school supplies ahead of the 2025-26 school year, Mayor Jared Kraham announced Aug. 18. This year's giveaway will mark the largest backpack and school supply program since the city and CARES began partnering in 2017, according to the mayor's office. The CEO of CARES Advocates For Families Inc., Denise Yull, said the partnership with the city is key to helping families overcome the increased cost of living. "Each year CARES leads the Backpack & School Supply Drive because too many of our families are working more than one job, living at or below the poverty line, and now face the rising cost of living, and need our collective support; by coming together for our children, we affirm that they are all our children," Yull said in a release. "CARES is committed to doing what it takes to help them thrive and we thank Mayor Kraham for his continued partnership in making this possible.' Since 2017, the City of Binghamton has partnered with CARES to provide students from Pre-K to 12th grade with the essentials to thrive in the classroom. This year the City of Binghamton contributed $20,000 from a Community Development Block Grant to help fund the initative. 'As another school year approaches, the City of Binghamton is again working with CARES to provide hundreds of children with the basic supplies they need to learn and thrive in the classroom," Mayor Kraham said. "The program helps relieve some of the financial burden that back-to-school shopping puts on families and is another investment in our young people.' School supplies and bookbags will be available on a first come first serve basis. Children have to be present to recieve a bookbag. There will be five pickup locations for supplies and bookbags Thursday through Saturday. All of the locations will operate from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. More: When is the first day of school in Southern Tier?
