Bradley Donald Towle, 41, is facing more than a dozen serious charges after an alleged spree on highways near the Sunshine Coast, north of Brisbane, on Easter Monday. Police officers inspecting a crashed red Porsche on the Bruce Highway. ABC Credit: ABC
Police allege he was under the influence of drugs when he lost control of a red Porsche Macan at Palmview and crashed into the side of a Nissan Micra, killing 22-year-old passenger Jocelyn Grace Mollee. Mr Towle allegedly fled the scene of the crash while armed with a shotgun – shooting a 62-year-old man who stopped his vehicle to help – and took off in his car.
It is alleged the Tewantin man then threatened a 16-year-old girl and her parents in another vehicle, but was soon arrested at about 12.50pm near Landsborough. Bruce Highway crash near Aussie World on Monday. ABC Credit: ABC
Body-worn camera footage released by police shows officers with weapons drawn ordering Mr Towle to lie on the ground before arresting him. A loaded shotgun was allegedly found inside the stolen vehicle.
Mr Towle has been charged with armed robbery, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, unlawful wounding, dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, and multiple weapons and drug offences.
Police said Mr Towle was injured in the crash, and he was initially in hospital under police guard following his arrest.
He remains in custody and did not appear when his case was briefly mentioned in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
There was no application for bail and his case is due back in court on June 30.
The lawyer for Bradley Donald Towle, the man allegedly involved in a multi-vehicle crash that killed a 22-year-old student and two carjackings, spoke outside the Maroochydore Courthouse on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters outside of court, Mr Towle's lawyer Ben Rynderman said he was limited in what he could say due to confidentiality.
'This is of course a very serious matter,' he said.
'It's obviously very serious and tragic and it will be treated with the seriousness and the gravity that it is.'
He confirmed Mr Towle had returned to the watch-house from hospital without needing further medical care.
'I imagine police will compile a comprehensive brief of evidence that will be very detailed and we will assess that brief on its merits,' he said. Aerial vision captured the wreckage left in the wake of the six-car crash on the Bruce Highway near Aussie World. Nine News Credit: Channel 9
Tributes have flowed for Ms Mollee in the wake of the Bruce Highway crash.
The 22-year-old was a fourth-year chemical engineering student at the University of Queensland and was only days away from completing her degree.
Her mother Amanda Chippendale said she last spoke to her daughter on Easter Sunday morning.
'A happy Easter call, catch up,' she told the Courier Mail.
'Jocey and I catch up every day or so on the phone or texting.'
'My heart is shattered. We're broken into a million pieces,' she said.
'Gone but not forgotten my baby girl.'

Alleged Alameddine gangster Ali Elmoubayed targeted in Merrylands shooting
Fresh chaos has hit Sydney's criminal underworld, with three men now in custody for the apparent targeted shooting of a home linked to the alleged boss of the brutal Alameddine crime network in Australia. The shooting happened about 9.20am, with police officers called to the Earl St home in Merrylands in the city's west. Bullets were fired at the house, but nobody was inside at the time. Both the ABC and The Sydney Morning Herald report Ali Elmoubayed, the alleged head of the Alameddine enterprise, is linked to the address but dodged the shooting after reportedly leaving beforehand for the Parramatta Magistrates Court to request a change of bail address. A short time later, a burning Porsche was located in Beverley Crescent in Chester Hill, NSW Police have confirmed. 'The group left Chester Hill in a Hyundai before being arrested on McMahon Rd in Yagoona trying to flee from police on foot,' police said in a statement. 'They remain in police custody. 'Crime scenes were established at both locations, which will be forensically examined by specialist police.' The shooting has been referred to Taskforce Falcon. Falcon is led by State Crime Command, with the NSW Crime Commission, to investigate and suppress violent crime in the Sydney metropolitan area. Detective Superintendent Jason Box, the commander of Taskforce Falcon, is expected to update media on the shooting at 2pm AEST. More to come

Alleged gangland supremo escaped brazen shooting by minutes
The Sydney home of the man police allege is the head of the notorious Alameddine crime network in Australia was peppered with bullets minutes after he left to ask a magistrate to allow him to relocate. Ali Elmoubayed was en route to Parramatta Local Court around 9.15am on Thursday when gunmen opened fire on his Merrylands home in the city's west. Shortly after, a burnt-out Porsche, suspected to be linked to the shooting, was found on Beverley Crescent in Chester Hill. No one was at the Earl Street home, which Elmoubayed had left five minutes earlier, at the time of the shooting. Shortly after, police arrested three men, who had allegedly fled the Chester Hill crime scene in a Hyundai. They were arrested on McMahon Road in Yagoona after allegedly trying to flee police on foot. They have not been charged. Crime scenes have been established in Merrylands and Chester Hill. Taskforce Falcon, established last month after a number of underworld-linked killings, is investigating the shooting. Elmoubayed, a former bodyguard to Rafat Alameddine, was set to appear in court to seek a variation to his bail that would allow him to relocate from the Earl Street home because of concerns for his safety. Other incidents at Elmoubayed's home in recent weeks, including a firebombing, have sparked security concerns. Alameddine, the alleged kingpin of the crime family, has been living in Lebanon as a free man since fleeing Australia in November 2022. Police believe Alameddine and John Bayssari were part of the criminal conspiracy to murder their gangland enemy Ibrahem Hamze in August 2021.
