Back in the 1960s, Carter Road in Bandra was a quiet stretch, mostly home to Parsis and Anglo-Indians—not the star-studded spot it is today. Among the houses stood an old, rundown bungalow that everyone believed was haunted. No one wanted to buy it, even at a very low price. But when actor Rajendra Kumar, still new to the film industry, heard about it, he saw a rare chance. Despite having no money, he was eager to own a seaside home and wasn't scared off by the ghost stories.
As told in Seema Sonik Alimchand's book Jubilee Kumar, the house cost Rs 65,000, but Rajendra Kumar only had Rs 10,000. He wrote a cheque for that amount and gave it to the broker. He said, 'I immediately signed a cheque for Rs 10,000 and sent it to the broker. Now I had to pay fifty-five thousand more, which I didn't have in my account. So I went to Mr BR Chopra, who, a few days earlier, had offered me two films — Dhool ka Phool and Kanoon. While I had accepted both, we had yet to come to an agreement over the payment for each film."
Rajendra Kumar wanted to buy a house that cost Rs 65,000, but he only had Rs 10,000. He asked B.R. Chopra, who gave him two movie roles, to pay some money early. Rajendra asked for Rs 2 lakh, but Chopra offered Rs 1.75 lakh. He later bought the house.
Rumours said the house was haunted, but the broker told Rajendra Kumar it wasn't true. The old tenant hadn't paid rent and made up stories. Rajendra fixed the house and named it Dimple after his daughter. His career grew, and he got the nickname 'Jubilee Kumar.' Later, actor Rajesh Khanna bought the house, hoping to share Rajendra's luck.
Rajesh Khanna bought the bungalow for Rs 3.5 lakh but had to change its name from 'Dimple' to 'Aashirwad.' Rajendra Kumar told him, as per Alimchand's book, 'You must change the name. Dimple is my daughter's name. We had named the Carter Road bungalow after her and we have now named our new home 'Dimple' too. But you have my blessings for your new home. May it bring you immense luck and prosperity."
Alimchand's book shares Rajendra Kumar's words. After buying Aashirwad, Rajesh became the first big star of Hindi movies. Many fans gathered outside his home. In the book Dark Star: The Loneliness of Being Rajesh Khanna, Gautam Chintamani says that moving into Aashirwad made Rajesh's superstar image complete. Rajesh Khanna died in 2012. After that, his house Aashirwad was sold for Rs 90 crore to a businessman.

A Canadian man who has previously battled cancer, has defied the odds by winning three lotteries in the space of nine months, taking the total prize money to Rs 15.6 crore ($2.5 million). David Serkin, hailing from the Lethbridge area in Alberta, Canada, won $1 million on the May 3 LOTTO 6/49 Classic draw, according to the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC). "The local won $500,000 on the August 20 LOTTO MAX draw and $1 million on the November 16 LOTTO 6/49 draw. Now, the Lethbridge man has won again, another $1 million prize on the May 3 LOTTO 6/49 Classic draw," WCLC said in a press release. As per WCLC, the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 33,294,800, but Mr Serkin managed to overcome it, having been a longtime player of the LOTTO 6/49 since its launch in 1982. He said he relished the routine of buying and checking his tickets for a winner. He purchased the newest winning ticket from Shell Lethbridge at 2440 Fairway Plaza Road S in Lethbridge. "You check your ticket and if you win, you're happy. If you don't, you can always try again," Mr Serkin told WCLC, adding: "I bought this ticket while I was buying gas. I saw the Gold Ball draw was getting close (to the final ball selection) and thought, 'What do I have to lose?'" Quizzed about his massive winnings, Mr Serkin modestly replied: "I know the odds are astronomical. I don't think it'll happen again, but I still like buying tickets." "I'm a cancer survivor and I'm retired, so I am just grateful for all of it," he added. As per a report in Today, Mr Serkin's luck dates back over a decade. He previously won $250,000 in another draw more than 10 years prior to his recent hattrick of wins. Lottery over dinner Earlier this month, a couple in the US state of New Jersey won Rs 12.86 crore in the lottery after buying a Rs 257 scratch-off ticket while on their way to dinner. The couple would not have won the lottery if it weren't for the insistence of one of the partners. While one wanted to buy tickets in another town, the second insisted on purchasing from a store that they did not typically visit. "Like they ever listen to me! So, I go in and get a $10 ticket and a couple of the $3 Win for Lifes," the player recalled. "It was just so random. This really changes our lives. We're always stressed about bills. This makes life a lot easier," the winner said.

‘Thug Life' box office collections day 3: Kamal Haasan's film shows slight recovery; collects Rs 30.15 crores

After witnessing a sharp dip on Day 2, the film showed a marginal improvement on its third day. According to early estimates reported by the Sacnilk website, 'Thug Life' earned Rs 7.50 crore on Saturday, taking its three-day India net total to Rs 30.15 crore across all languages. Modest uptick on Saturday Following its opening day collection of Rs 15.5 crore, the film saw a drastic 53.87% drop on Friday, with only Rs 7.15 crore in earnings. However, on Saturday, the film saw a modest rebound, collecting an estimated Rs 7.50 crore. This modest rise suggests some weekend momentum, although it is still short of initial expectations for a film of this scale and star power. Tamil Nadu occupancy brings hope The Tamil 2D occupancy on Saturday stood at 39.12%, offering some signs of engagement from local audiences.
