Justin Bieber's ‘Swag' Lands at Number 2. It's Still His Biggest Streaming Debut Yet

Yahoo4 days ago
Justin Bieber returned to the album charts after four years with surprise album Swag, and for the first time, his LP did not debut at Number One, instead bowing at Number Two. But that only tells part of the story: Swag still marks the singer's biggest streaming debut of his career.
Swag was a highly anticipated album, to say the least. Despite announcing the record mere hours before its release, the hype for new music had been building for quite some time. Not only did it mark his first album in four years, but it came amid a tumultuous period in Bieber's life. In June 2022, his face was left partially paralyzed following a Ramsay Hunt Syndrome diagnosis, which forced him to halt his Justice tour and then cancel it entirely. In early 2023, he sold his publishing and recorded music rights to Hipgnosis Songs Capital, which covered his entire back catalog. More recently, Bieber officially split with his longtime manager Scooter Braun, after rumors of both personal and financial tension between the two. Last year, he and his wife Hailey had their first child.

Travis Scott's 'Jackboys 2' Tops Albums Chart
A Rolling Stone review of the album lauded the musician for processing his 'adult reality' in 'some of the most creative and wide-ranging music of his life.'
But while Swag didn't land in the top spot — that distinction belonged to Travis Scott's Jackboys 2 — it came pretty damn close. According to Variety, Scott's project came in with 232,000 equivalent-album units, while Bieber had 163,000. It was also a personal win for Bieber: The album enters the chart with a stronger showing than 2021's Justice, which did debut Number One at the time. Swag earned 163,000 equivalent album units, according to Luminate, which was 9,000 more than his previous LP earned. On Monday, Billboard reported that an impressive 16 songs of the album's 21 tracks charted in the Hot 100.
Swag also earned him his biggest streaming week to date, debuting at Number One on the Top Streaming Albums chart with 198.77 million on-demand streams. Meanwhile, the album's single 'Daisies' debuted at Number Two on the Hot 100.
All in all, Swag still has swag on the charts, despite it not landing in the top spot in its first week.

Ryan Seacrest Shares Rare Family Photos as Both of His Parents Battle Cancer

Ryan Seacrest Shares Rare Family Photos as Both of His Parents Battle Cancer originally appeared on Parade. Ryan Seacrest may be referred to as "the hardest-working man in show business," but his ultimate "happy place" isn't on TV or radio, it's with his family — especially as both of his parents fight cancer. Taking to Instagram for a rare look inside his personal life, the Wheel of Fortune host, 50, shared a photo with his sister, Meredith Seacrest Leach, her husband, Jimmy Leach, and their 6-year-old daughter — Ryan's beloved niece — Flora. The second snap in his Saturday, August 2, post featured him and Flora looking at each other lovingly inside of a car. While the longstanding American Idol host didn't reveal the location of the pictures, the family appeared to be at a vineyard. "My happy place looks a lot like this," Ryan gushed in the caption of the carousel. Though the Live With Kelly and Ryan alum has spent decades coming into our homes — whether it's through Idol, Wheel, Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve, his radio show, every red carpet he's ever hosted or any other entertainment venture — Ryan tends to keep his own personal life close to the vest. Which is why it was so emotional last month when he let fans know that both of his parents — Gary and Connie Seacrest — have been battling cancer. Ryan told his On Air With Ryan Seacrest viewers that his dad, who has been privately battling prostate cancer for years, "started his treatment and he — it didn't get better. It got worse and it spread. It didn't go well for him.' Meredith called her brother during a live segment of American Idol earlier this year to tell him their father was in intensive care at the hospital. When Ryan arrived, the family had to make a "life or death" decision. View this post on Instagram A post shared by On Air with Ryan Seacrest (@onairwithryan) 'She said, 'Dad is in the ICU' and 'How fast can you get here?'' Ryan shared. 'I didn't even remember what I was saying while I was on the show. I said 'Goodnight,' and I went to the airport immediately and got on a flight [to Atlanta].' Fortunately, he said, his father survived the pneumonia that nearly cost him his life. Now, Ryan noted, "We have to go back into another treatment and fight this cancer. 'It's difficult. ... The treatments suck. The treatments are tough. But I know he's gonna get through this.' Meanwhile, Ryan needed to also make sure that his mother — who is in remission from her own cancer, he revealed — was OK. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ryan Seacrest (@ryanseacrest) 'I needed her to take a break,' he said, which is why he took over part of his father's care in Atlanta. On July 20, Ryan's parents sent him a hopeful photo of them at the beach. He cried. "They just wanted to look at the water. They can't do much. But I saw him smile. I saw my mom smile," he recalled. "I'm embarrassed to – I'm just emotional. I am so – anyway, I watched them over the weekend, [they sent] photos of smiling and happiness, and being together. They've been married for over 55 years, and they've got each other." There are few absolutely perfect comedies. In some ways, making a comedy movie is harder than any other genre, especially as the years pass and any particular references start to feel more and more stale. That's what makes Clueless feel a little bit like a miracle. This Amy Heckerling classic, which is turning 30 this year, is one of the best comedies ever made, and an absolute must-watch whether you've seen it 30 times or never before. An adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma set in Beverly Hills in 1995, the movie is both totally of its time and utterly timeless. Here are three reasons it's worth checking out: It's so, so funny The best reason to watch Clueless is because it is one of the funniest scripts ever written. Heckerling, who wrote the film in addition to directing it, made Alicia Silverstone's Cher an instantly iconic character. Silverstone's Cher is a privileged popular girl, but she's textured to be something more engrossing, which makes her funnier. Recommended Videos It's different than the stereotypes you might be expecting. Every minute of this movie has a great joke in it, and you're going to catch and laugh at different ones every time. 'I thought they declared peace in the Middle East.' If only, Cher. It's a lush, beautiful movie Comedy movies typically don't get the kind of directorial flair that you might find in more serious projects, but Clueless is the perfect marriage of laughs and craft. The movie's iconic costuming — you can probably picture several outfits from the movie without thinking that hard — is just an exaggeration of how kids were actually dressing at the time. The colors themselves are also incredibly vibrant, creating a version of Beverly Hills that feels like a middle ground between utter fantasy and the dreariness of something more realistic. It's genuinely moving Perhaps the most surprising thing about Clueless is that the movie manages to land all of its emotional moments. Cher's character arc is a relatively small journey. Cher goes from being slightly narcissistic to caring a little bit more about other people and the world in general. What's crucial to the movie's success is that lack of 'bad guys.' All of these characters are just young people trying to figure out how to get through their lives and high school without totally falling apart. Cher's realization that she's in love with her stepbrother is cute and represents a moment when she finally figures out what she wants out of her life. It's a lovely moment, and one that Silverstone and Paul Rudd totally sell. You can watch Clueless on Netflix.
