AGC Opposes Ilham Tower's Bid Against MACC Over Seizure Of Menara Ilham
Senior Federal Counsel Nurhafizza Azizan informed the High Court of the objection during today's proceedings before Judge Datuk Amarjeet Singh.
The court directed both parties to file written submissions by Aug 13, with any replies to be submitted by Aug 20. The hearing is set for Sept 18.
Ilham Tower was represented by counsel Datuk Dr Gurdial Singh Nijar. It filed the ex-parte application through Messrs Raj & Sach on June 23.
Toh Puan Na'imah Abdul Khalid, widow of former finance minister the late Tun Daim Zainuddin, is listed as one of the company's directors.
The other respondents named were MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki; senior officer Mohd Razi Rahhim @ Rahim; deputy public prosecutor Datuk Ahmad Akram Gharib; the Public Prosecutor; Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim; and the Government of Malaysia.
The company is seeking a declaration that the seizure order or notice issued by the second respondent (Ahmad Akram), on June 4, 2025, under Section 51(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, in relation to the seizure of Menara Ilham at Jalan Binjai, is unlawful and therefore null and void.
It is also seeking a certiorari order to quash the seizure notice along with all related decisions or actions.
In addition, a mandamus order is sought to compel the second respondent, or any officer, employee, agent, or person authorised by him, to cancel the said notice.

MACC detains three for false claims in Sabah and Selangor
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained three individuals in separate cases involving false claims in Sabah and Selangor. In Sabah, two businesspersons were arrested for allegedly submitting fraudulent claims under the Small and Medium Industry (SMI) Assistance Programme. The suspects, a man and a woman in their 50s, were detained at the Sabah MACC office while giving their statements. Investigations revealed the duo submitted false claims worth over RM3.6 million to the Department of Industrial Development and Research (DIDR) between 2022 and 2023. Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrests, stating the case is being probed under Sections 18 and 28(1)(c) of the MACC Act 2009. Both suspects were released on RM10,000 bail each after posting RM1,000 and will face charges at the Kota Kinabalu Special Corruption Sessions Court this Thursday. In Selangor, a company director was detained for allegedly submitting false documents involving travel claims and air conditioner purchases worth RM33,000. The female suspect, also in her 50s, was arrested at the Selangor MACC office while providing her statement. Investigations suggest the offences occurred between 2022 and 2023, with the suspect submitting claims for transactions that never took place. Selangor MACC deputy director Khairul Izwan Karim confirmed the arrest, adding the case is being investigated under Section 471 of the Penal Code. Education Ministry to work with stakeholders to clarify guidelines on handling bullying
KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry will conduct engagement sessions with all stakeholders to explain the current guidelines for handling bullying offences, says Minister Fadhlina Sidek ( pic ). She said the move was in response to one of the four demands in the #JusticeForZara memorandum submitted to the ministry by a group of student activists here on Tuesday (Aug 12). "The ministry is also open to views and suggestions to improve the existing guidelines," she said in a Facebook post. On the demand for a comprehensive reform of the national education system, particularly in relation to bullying issues, Fadhlina said the ministry had announced several important measures to enhance safety in all educational institutions under its purview. "This includes conducting safety audits, improving the bullying complaint system, setting up a safety reform committee, taking stern action such as suspending and expelling students involved in bullying, and ensuring psychosocial support aspects are strengthened at every level," she said. On the demand to make mandatory and periodic training for all teachers, administrators and wardens on crisis intervention, student emotional management and professional procedures in handling bullying complaints, Fadhlina said training aspects would continue to be enhanced to ensure the readiness of school administrators, teachers and wardens. She also said that all educational institutions under the ministry's purview must comply with the guidelines for tackling bullying offences. Regarding the demand for the Education Ministry to provide an open explanation to the public about the case of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir, she said the ministry would fully cooperate with the police investigation, and updates on the case would be communicated periodically by the police. "The Education Ministry welcomes the police's initiative to set up a special task force to handle the case involving the late Zara Qairina," said Fadhlina, who met with the representatives of the student activists in Parliament to further discuss all concerns raised in the memorandum. - Bernama

Thailand protests Cambodia's use of anti-personnel mines, citing ceasefire breach and Ottawa Convention violations
BANGKOK: Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday (Aug 12) issued a four-point statement protesting Cambodia's use of anti-personnel mines. It urged the international community to review mine clearance aid to Phnom Penh. The statement reads: 1. On 12 August 2025, in the Chong Chub Ta Mok area in Surin Province, seven soldiers from Thailand's 2610th Paramilitary Company were conducting a routine patrol, but then came upon and stepped on yet another landmine. The Royal Thai Government condemns in the strongest terms the use of anti-personnel mines. Such action is yet another repetition of Cambodia's insincere conduct, and an outright breach of international law, including the principles that are fundamental to the United Nations Charter, as well as a clear violation of the obligations under the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (Ottawa Convention) and international humanitarian law. 2. This incident, when taken together with the previous landmine incident on 9 August 2025, reflects Cambodia's lack of good faith and contravenes the ceasefire agreement finalised by both sides at the Thailand–Cambodia Extraordinary General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting, held on 7 August 2025 in Kuala Lumpur. Thailand therefore must again call on Cambodia to immediately cease these gross violations of the Ottawa Convention. - Photo: The Nation/ANN 3. Thailand is lodging further protests with Cambodia, the President of the Ottawa Convention and the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
