Arizona center Henri Veesaar to enter NCAA transfer portal

The emergence of Henri Veesaar as a versatile big man and key part of Arizona's rotation was arguably the biggest surprise of the 2024-25 season, not to mention a source of hope for the future.
Turns out that may be for a different team's future.

Veesaar has reportedly put his name into the NCAA transfer portal, the third Wildcat to do so since the UA's season ended in the Sweet 16.
The 7-foot Veesaar had a breakout year for Arizona, his third with the program. The redshirt sophomore averaged 9.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.1 blocks in 20.8 minutes per game, starting five times but mostly coming off the bench.
Veesaar, a native of Estonia who missed the 2023-24 season with an elbow injury, had 16 double-figure scoring games including 13 against Duke in the Sweet 16. His career high was 22 against ASU in the home finale.
A foot injury to fellow big man Motiejus Krivas in December opened the door for Veesaar to take on a bigger role in the frontcourt, either in place of or in taken with Tobe Awaka. His pay drew rave reviews from opposing coaches, some of whom referred to him as an NBA prospect.

Veesaar joins guard KJ Lewis and center Emmanuel Stephen as Arizona players in the portal. Along with guard Caleb Love and forward Trey Townsend, who are out of eligibility, the Wildcats are down to six scholarship players remaining from a team that went 24-13, tied for third place in the Big 12 and then reached the conference tournament final before making the Sweet 16 for the third time in four seasons under Tommy Lloyd.

"You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports. Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports!! "But instead… You bully them… One things for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!" Gaines responded to Biles' attack. "This is so disappointing. My take is the least controversial take on the planet," Gaines wrote in response to Biles' post. "Simone Biles being a male-apologist at the expense of young girls' dreams? Didn't have that on my bingo card. "Maybe she could compete in pommel horse and rings in 2028." Feely revealed he was stepping into the Arizona congressional race in April in an interview with Fox News Digital. He entered the Republican primary for Arizona's 5th Congressional District to replace Rep. Andy Biggs, who's running to be the Grand Canyon State's next governor. LSU's offense has been spotty all season, but the Tigers needed that one to get some life into their stadium. B6 - Duke 6, Murray State 2 Kyle Johnson does it again with a double in the sixth to score another run. Johnson has two doubles and a home run in three at-bats, and he has driven in five runs. What a day for a player who is only in the lineup because of a suspension. He really has stepped up today for Duke. Ex-Louisville star Russ Smith arrested for suspicion of DUI, reckless driving
Louisville Metro Police arrested a former Louisville basketball star early Sunday morning for driving under the influence of alcohol. Russ Smith, a member of the 2013 Louisville basketball team who won the NCAA Tournament that was later vacated, was stopped after police spotted him making a U-turn across multiple lanes and noticed his license plate tag had expired, the Courier Journal reported after viewing the arrest citation. Police detected a 'strong odor of alcoholic beverages' on Smith's breath when they first talked to him, and he failed a field sobriety test after he told officers that he drank 'two bourbon pours neat' before getting behind the wheel, according to the arrest citation. 3 Russ Smith was arrested early Sunday morning. Getty Images The Queens native 'swayed' when he stepped out of the car and failed a walk and turn test, WDRB reported. Smith had a 0.073 blood alcohol content, but in the state of Kentucky, drivers can still be prosecuted if they have a BAC of above 0.04 but below 0.08 as long as there is other evidence to support the case. 'That fact may be considered, together with other competent evidence, in determining the guilt or innocence of the defendant,' according to the statute in the state. A police spokesperson told WDRB that 'we will allow the arrest slip to speak for itself,' when asked about Smith's BAC. Getty Images He was released without bond and is due back in court for an arraignment hearing on June 11 at Jefferson County District Court. WDRB reported that Smith is slated to play in The Basketball Tournament this summer, a winner-take-all tournament with a $1 million prize. Smith played four years at Louisville, and he averaged 14.3 points per game. He had brief NBA stints with the Pelicans and Grizzlies, as well as some time in the G-League and overseas.
