Capital Power reports $132 million Q2 loss after closing major acquisition

EDMONTON – Capital Power Corp. says it swung to a loss in the second quarter compared with a profit last year in a period that saw it close its largest-ever acquisition.
The Edmonton-based electricity producer says its net loss attributable to shareholders was $132 million during the quarter ended June 30, or 92 cents per diluted share.
That compared with a profit of $75 million, or 51 cents per share in the same quarter last year.
The swing to a loss came as revenue also dropped to $441 million, down from $774 million last year.
In the quarter, the company completed its $3 billion acquisition of two power facilities in the U.S. that it says adds to its flexible power generation.
The company also revised its guidance for the year, raising its expected capital expenditures, adjusted earnings before certain deductions, and adjusted funds from operations.

Sony raises its profit forecast after saying it expects less damage from Trump's tariffs

TOKYO (AP) — Japanese entertainment and electronics company Sony said Thursday that its profit surged 23% in the last quarter from the year before, as damage from U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs was less than it had expected. The Tokyo-based manufacturer reported its April-June profit totaled 259 billion yen, or $1.8 billion, up from 210 billion yen. Quarterly sales edged up 2% to 2.6 trillion yen ($17.7 billion) as demand grew for games and network services, imaging solutions and sensors. The maker of PlayStation game machines, digital cameras, Walkman audio players and Spider-Man movies said those positive factors offset the negative impact from unfavorable exchanges rates. Sony said its network business also was drawing more subscribers to its online services. Sony raised its forecast for its profit in the full fiscal year until March 2026 to 970 billion yen ($6.6 billion), from an earlier forecast of 930 billion yen ($6.3 billion). The revised projection is still lower than what it earned in the previous fiscal year at 1 trillion yen. Sony now estimates the impact of the additional U.S. tariffs on its operating income at 70 billion yen ($476 million), much better than the initial estimate of 100 billion yen ($680 million). One of the successes among Sony's entertainment franchises was the latest 'Demon Slayer' animation movie, which is part of a hit series and is doing well at the box office. DMG Blockchain Solutions Announces Preliminary July Operational Results, Treasury Update, Launch of Blockseer Explorer

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Aug. 06, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — DMG Blockchain Solutions Inc. (TSX-V: DMGI) (OTCQB: DMGGF) (FRANKFURT: 6AX) ('DMG' or the 'Company'), a vertically integrated blockchain and data center technology company, today announces its preliminary operational results for July 2025: Bitcoin mined: 26 BTC (vs 23 BTC in June 2025) Hashrate: 1.65 EH/s (vs 1.56 EH/s in June 2025) Bitcoin balance: 307 BTC (vs 341 BTC in June 2025) During July 2025, DMG's realized hashrate was 1.65 EH/s, up 6% from the 1.56 EH/s reported in June, as the Company was able to make fully operational its hydro infrastructure with 0.4 EH/s hashrate, achieved in the latter part of July. As a result of diligent efforts by its mining staff, the Company was able to overcome the infrastructure contamination issues caused by manufacturer quality control issues. DMG is now observing intraday hashrate fluctuations of less than 1% in its hydro mining segment, even during the warmest part of the summer. The hydro miners are designed to maintain hashrate under higher ambient temperatures, albeit at reduced efficiency, and are performing as expected. Notably, the initial failure rate of the hydro miners has been significantly lower than that of previous generations of air-cooled equipment. The Company has scheduled substation maintenance in August, which is expected to result in three days of downtime, with the possibility of partial shutdowns around that period. DMG does not currently utilize backup power generation for its Bitcoin mining operations, except for its server room. ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW DMG's bitcoin balance was 307 BTC at the end of July. The Company sold bitcoin during the month to fund operating expenses and further reduce its loan balance with Sygnum Bank, in line with prior guidance. Digital Asset Treasury Update As of the date of this press release, DMG has paid down more than half of its Sygnum Bank loan balance, which was $20.0 million as of its most recently reported financial quarter ending March 31, 2025. In the near-term, DMG anticipates it will increase its bitcoin balance and limit further reductions in its debt. As a bitcoin miner, DMG's cash cost of energy to make bitcoin is well below the market price, which makes its cost of growing its bitcoin balance attractive. The Company continues to explore the development of a broader digital asset portfolio. DMG Launches Blockseer Explorer DMG announces it has relaunched Blockseer Explorer, which is part of DMG Blockchain's digital asset software suite and is a product tailored to a specific and underserved segment of the market: Bitcoin-native operators such as miners and self-custody treasuries. Explorer helps users track wallet activity, set alerts and export concise, spreadsheet-ready transaction data—with no coding, API setup or SQL required. By providing a bitcoin-only, GUI-first and export-friendly solution for wallet monitoring, Blockseer Explorer offers immediate benefit to a wide range of operators who want visibility, not complexity. Blockseer Explorer is available at no cost at About DMG Blockchain Solutions Inc.
