DuBois mother charged after child falls from second floor window, flown to Pittsburgh
DUBOIS, Pa. (WTAJ) — A DuBois mother is facing charges after her 4-year-old allegedly fell out of a second-story window.
Jenny Etna Marie Travis, 22, was charged Monday, June 9, with one felony count of endangering the welfare of a child, stemming from an incident that occurred in May.
According to charging documents, Sandy Township Police were called to a complex at 200 Hanes Drive in Sandy Township at around 1:30 p.m. May 15. Upon arrival, the responding officer found a 4-year-old on the sidewalk with a window screen near him. The child was crying and had scrapes on his head and was bleeding. The officer also noted the child's diaper was 'so engorged with urine that it exploded on impact.'
The child was rushed to Penn Highlands DuBois and immediately flown to the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.

A neighbor, who called 911, told police they saw the screen fall to the ground, then a moment later, the child did too. According to the complaint, they ran over to try to render aid and called 911.
Police asked to see inside Travis' apartment and the window. They noted in the affidavit of probable cause that the window was low and about eight inches from the floor, and the bottom of the window was open.
Through the investigation, it was learned that Child and Youth Services (CYS) had previously dealt with Travis and documented that she was told not to open the lower part of the window. According to the affidavit, police also noted they have called CYS in the past due to deplorable living conditions.
Police added that an infant was sleeping in a bassinet in the room with the window the child fell out of. Another young child in another room was allegedly sleeping on a stained mattress with no sheets and just a throw blanket.
According to the complaint, the father of the child was not home at the time. He told police he was on his way to Clearfield when Travis called him and he turned around to go right home.Travis' preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 11.
The condition of the 4-year-old is unknown as of this writing.

Arizona medical examiner reveals how killer dad Shawn Ryan Grell died in notoriously violent prison
A murderous dad serving a life sentence for burning his 2-year-old daughter alive 26 years ago died of lung cancer in his cell at a notoriously violent Arizona prison, an autopsy revealed this week. The body of convicted murderer Shawn Ryan Grell, 50, was discovered by authorities in the Arizona State Prison Complex in Tucson on April 19. Officials did not disclose any details about his death at the time. A report from the medical examiner obtained by The Post on Wednesday revealed Grell died of natural causes. That speculation came as legislators were calling for sweeping reforms at the Arizona Department of Corrections after three inmates were savagely murdered 15 days before in the same prison complex where Grell died. The three prisoners were killed on April 4 by Ricky Wassenaar, a notorious convict who is serving 16 life sentences for murder and his role in one of the longest prison hostage situations in American history, according to prison officials. 5 Grell was serving a life sentence for killing his 2-year-old daughter over two decades ago. 'He was pronounced deceased at the scene by an attending physician.' Grell's thin body was delivered to the medical examiner in a white body bag. He weighed just 134 pounds and had bad teeth, according to the report. Grell was serving a life sentence for murdering his daughter over 25 years ago. He picked up Kristen Salem from a Mesa day care on Dec. 2, 1999, and took her to McDonald's for lunch, according to court records. 5 The medical examiner's report put to rest online speculation that another inmate killed Grell. He told the tot they were going to see Christmas lights, reported, but instead he drove to Target to buy a plastic gas can and gasoline, according to court documents. He then drove to the desert outside Mesa, laid his sleeping daughter on the ground, doused her in gasoline and lit her on fire, the records said. Oakland Post editor's confessed killer paroled after years in prison
The man convicted of killing an Oakland newspaper editor who was investigating the finances of a Black empowerment group in 2007 was released from prison last week, officials told the Chronicle. Devaughndre Broussard was released into parole supervision on June 5, according to a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokesperson. No other details regarding his release were immediately provided. Chauncey Bailey, the editor of African-American weekly the Oakland Post, had been investigating the bankruptcy proceedings of Your Black Muslim Bakery before he was killed. Broussard, a member of the bakery group, testified in 2011 that its leader, Yusuf Bey IV, had ordered him to learn where Bailey lived and 'find out his routine,' according to a Chronicle report. 'He wanted us to take him out before he wrote that article.' Broussard confessed to killing Bailey with three shotgun blasts on Aug. 2, 2007 as Bailey was walking to work at 14th and Alice Streets in downtown Oakland, according to a previous Chronicle report. A federal judge ordered the bakery to liquidate its assets amid debt and management problems the week following Bailey's killing. Broussard was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of involuntary manslaughter for the slayings of Bailey and Odell Roberson, 31. Roberson was the uncle of the man who shot and killed Bey IV's brother near the former San Pablo Avenue bakery. Broussard promised to testify against Bey IV and Antoine Mackey, a former bakery associate, who was also a suspect in Bailey's killing. Bey IV was sentenced in 2011 to spend the rest of his life in prison for ordering the killings of Bailey, 57, Roberson, 31, and Michael Willis, 36. Jurors decided that Bey IV was guilty of murdering Bailey because he had ordered Broussard to pull the trigger. Mackey was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder for Bailey and Willis's killings, the Chronicle previously reported. In 2015, a state appeals court denied Bey IV and Mackey's motion to overturn their convictions, dismissing claims that their trial should have been moved from Alameda County due to negative publicity.
