A busy stretch of Wilshire Boulevard officially shut down on Monday so that construction on the Metro D Line extension can continue.
The full closure of Wilshire between El Camino Drive and Crescent Drive began at 12:01 a.m. Monday and work will take place nonstop (24 hours a day, seven days a week) except on holidays and during regional events, LA Metro officials said.

Crews will be working to complete deck removal and roadway restoration for the future Wilshire/Rodeo Station, one of the seven future stations along the D Line (Purple) extension and part of the second section of the construction project, which is scheduled to open next year.
Section 2 will connect the future Wilshire/La Cienega and Century City stations.
Two Metro bus lines will be affected by the construction: the 20/720 bus and the 617 bus. Starting Monday, Metro Lines 20 and 720 will detour via Santa Monica Boulevard, Burton Way, and San Vicente Boulevard, with temporary stops along the route.
Line 617 will reroute via Santa Monica Boulevard, Century Park East, and Olympic Boulevard, with a temporary stop at Santa Monica and Wilshire.
Maps of the detours can be viewed below.
The closure and bus detours will be in place through April 7.
The City of Beverly Hills has a webpage with more information on the construction for residents that can be accessed here.

Currently, the D Line's western terminus is Wilshire/Western Station. Section 1 of the line's extension will run from Wilshire/Western to Wilshire/La Cienega – a 3.92-mile extension that will include three new stops – and is slated to open this year, according to Metro.
The final stretch of the extension, which Metro says will open in 2027, will connect Century City to the D Line's future final stop, the Westwood/VA Hospital Station.
When all is said and done, it will be possible to take the Metro from Union Station in downtown L.A. to the Westside.

US Issues Advice To Americans As Israel-Iran Tensions Rise

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The U.S. Department of State is urging all Americans to exercise extreme caution in light of the ongoing Israel-Iran tensions. American citizens in Israel are strongly advised to limit internal travel and to maintain a high level of situational awareness. Iran remains under a longstanding "Level 4: Do Not Travel" advisory due to risks of terrorism, kidnapping, wrongful detention, and civil unrest. In light of current escalations, U.S. government employees across the region, including in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Iraq, may be authorized to depart or evacuate depending on evolving security threats. All travelers should expect sudden disruptions, heightened security presence, and rapidly changing conditions. Americans abroad are encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrolment Program (STEP) to receive real-time updates from the nearest U.S. Embassy. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the State Department said: "Due to high tensions in the Middle East, the security environment remains complex and can change quickly. We remind U.S. citizens in Israel and the broader region of the continued need for caution and encourage them to monitor the news for breaking developments." 17th annual Canaan Mountain Bike Festival to take over Davis this weekend

DAVIS, (WBOY) — The 17th annual Canaan Mountain Bike Festival is set to take place in Tucker County this weekend, and event organizers expect more than 300 bikers to come out and explore Canaan Valley and the Monongahela National Forest. The weekend will include group rides, skill sessions for bikers to improve, biking competitions, a morning session to help maintain a local trail, a hike on the Nature Conservancy's newly acquired Dobbin Slashings Nature Preserve and a dinner on Saturday night. New Dobbin Slashings Preserve in West Virginia is open to the public Other than the normal bike rides and chances to socialize, this year's event will include something a little different, a 'bike hash,' where one biker gets a 15-minute head start on the group and makes an improvised path that everyone else tries to follow. 'I've been biking a long time and it just still never gets old,' Haywood said. 'I love doing it with my friends and I like this area. It's challenging terrain and you know the weather can be wild and it's just a fun, beautiful place to ride a bike,' Blackwater Bicycle Association President Sue Haywood said. Event organizers said another unique thing about this festival is that normally bike festivals are centered around a big campground facility, whereas this one is centered around the two local towns. Crowds of people from all over fill Big Rock Landing

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WNCT) — The Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament is halfway over but the spirit of those out enjoying the event hasn't diminished. People come from all over to see large blue marlins weighed in at the Big Rock scales. 'It's all the community coming together even like, the locals coming in and hanging out together, just being one team,' Cape Carteret local Alex Wianecki said. Others come into town from much farther away. 'I mean, for somebody like me from an area that doesn't do anything like this, it is so exciting to see this many people and to see everybody have such a good time,' Laura Calfee of Tampa, Fla. said. Others came from the mountainous parts of the state to see the action at the coast. 'I've grown up coming to Morehead and Atlantic Beach. I vacationed every summer at the Oceania Resort and have never been to Big Rock,' Julia Rice of Snow Camp said. 'Enjoying the family and the friendship. This is my son's high school graduation trip and I don't even care if there's any fish, just being with my family and my friends.' In the final days of the Big Rock, more anticipation grows as people wait to see who the winners will be. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
