', a national-level nutrition campaign held over a fortnight from April 8 to 22, by conducting more than 1.17 crore activities to spread awareness and assist beneficiaries. Chhattisgarh is in the second position with 1.09 crore awareness activities conducted over the fortnight.
The initiative, led by Union ministry of
women and child development
, focuses on ensuring supply of nutritional food to children till the age of six years, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
Secretary for Rajasthan's women and child development department, Mahendra Soni, stated, "We instructed all officials to ensure that Rajasthan was in the top three ranks. The awareness activities conducted included seminars and personal discussions for behavioural change, as well as ground-level and online monitoring."

Youth Congress workers storm Sree Chithra Institute over surgery delays amid equipment shortage
Thiruvananthapuram: Youth Congress activists of Kerala on Monday stormed the prestigious Sree Chithra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) in the state capital, protesting the postponement of critical surgeries due to a severe shortage of surgical equipment. SCTIMST, a centrally-run institute known for its excellence in cardiology and neurology, is a lifeline for thousands -- particularly the poor and underprivileged -- seeking advanced medical treatment. However, the hospital has recently been grappling with disrupted medical services after contracts with suppliers of key surgical instruments lapsed and were not renewed. The issue arises from a directive mandating that all purchases be made exclusively through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal, which primarily features Indian-made products. According to hospital sources and protesters, many essential surgical items -- especially those sourced internationally -- are not available on the portal. Earlier, the institute was allowed to float tenders and negotiate directly with suppliers, a process now discontinued. Angered by the delay in surgeries, a group of Youth Congress workers managed to bypass the hospital's tight security and reach the office of the Director. Shouting slogans against the BJP-led Central government, they accused it of jeopardising the lives of poor patients. Tensions escalated as protesters clashed verbally with police personnel inside the hospital premises. 'The poor depend on this hospital for life-saving treatments. The Centre's rigid policies are disrupting care and delaying surgeries. This is unacceptable,' said one of the protesters. Later in the day, newly appointed Union Minister of State for Tourism, Suresh Gopi, who hails from Thiruvananthapuram, visited SCTIMST for discussions with the hospital administration to assess the situation. 'I came here in my role as liaison minister. We had a constructive discussion with officials, and the matter is being taken seriously,' Gopi told reporters. 'We will now approach the Union Finance Minister and other concerned authorities to expedite a resolution. I am confident the issue will be resolved soon,' he added.

'Mixopathy' of medical systems dangerous: IMA
Madurai: Indian Medical Association has raised concern over the steps taken by the Union govt to introduce an integrated MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) and BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) course. IMA Madurai chapter said that while collaborations are welcome, such ' mixopathy ' of medical systems will bring down the quality of medical care and endanger patients' safety. Union minister of state for health and AYUSH (independent charge), Prataprao Jadhav, had said that plans are underway to launch India's first MBBS-BAMS course at Jipmer in Puducherry. "Will anyone be ok with integrating automobile and aeronautical engineering courses? The govt should support and strive to achieve excellence in one particular field instead of forcibly mixing two separate fields," said Dr V N Alagavenkatesan, secretary, IMA, Madurai. Not enough scientific research has been done in AYUSH systems, and it is disappointing to have the scientific evidence-based allopathy system being forcibly integrated, he said pointing to such integration not being well-received in countries like China.

6 more deaths tied to Covid take India toll since January to 65
NEW DELHI: Six more Covid-related deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, the Union health ministry said on Sunday. The country's total Covid count has crossed the 6,000-mark, with 769 fresh cases being reported in the last 48 hours, revealed data released by the ministry. Kerala continues to be the most affected state, followed by Gujarat, West Bengal and Delhi. In all, there are 6,133 active Covid cases in the country. With the latest casualties, the Covid death toll since Jan has gone up to 65. Maharashtra has recorded the maximum fatalities (18), followed by Kerala (15) and Delhi (7). Due to the rising number of cases, Centre is conducting mock drills to check facility-level preparedness and has instructed all states to ensure availability of oxygen, isolation beds, ventilators, and essential medicines, official sources said. However, most cases are mild and are being managed under home care, they stressed. A series of technical review meetings were held on June 2 and 3, under the chairpersonship of director general of health services (DGHS) Dr Sunita Sharma, with representatives of Disaster Management Cell, Emergency Management Response Cell, National Centre for Disease Control, Indian Council of Medical Research, Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, and central govt hospitals in Delhi and with representatives of states and UTs to evaluate the situation and preparedness measures.
