Gold price outlook: Experts see MCX gold rate at ₹1.05 lakh if Israel-Iran war further escalates

Gold prices on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) surged past the ₹ 1 lakh-mark on Friday, driven by robust safe-haven demand following a sharp escalation in geopolitical tensions between Israel and Iran. Renewed conflict in the Middle East, expectations of interest rate cuts, and a risk-off sentiment across financial markets collectively contributed to the rally in the yellow metal. MCX gold rate settled 0.04% higher at ₹ 1,00,314 per 10 grams after touching an intraday high of ₹ 1,00,681. Meanwhile, MCX silver prices declined marginally by 0.02% to ₹ 1,06,474 per kg, after hitting a high of ₹ 1,06,940 during the session. In the international market, spot gold price surged 1.3% to $3,428.10 an ounce, inching closer to its all-time high of $3,500.05 set in April. For the week, prices gained approximately 4%. US gold futures also advanced 1.5% to settle at $3,452.80. 'The latest upswing has been fueled by renewed conflict in the Middle East, particularly the Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear infrastructure, which have significantly increased global risk aversion, reinforcing gold's appeal as a safe-haven asset,' said Sugandha Sachdeva, Founder of SS WealthStreet. She further noted that the US Dollar Index, which peaked at 110.18 in January, has since dropped to a three-year low, weighed down by disappointing economic indicators and policy uncertainty amid renewed tariff measures. 'The sharp decline in the dollar index has been a key catalyst driving gold higher. Additionally, easing inflation—with the US CPI cooling to 2.4% in May, below expectations—has raised prospects of a rate cut by the Federal Reserve, potentially as early as its June 18 meeting,' Sachdeva added. Markets are now increasingly pricing in a cumulative 50 basis points rate cut in 2025, lending further support to bullion prices. Gold has delivered stellar returns so far this year, rising 31% year-to-date (YTD) and consistently posting record highs. The metal has reaffirmed its position as one of 2025's top-performing asset classes and a reliable hedge against macroeconomic and geopolitical uncertainty. From ₹ 7,638 in 2005 to over ₹ 1,00,000 in June 2025, MCX gold prices have soared by an impressive 1,200.84%. In comparison, silver has gained 668.84% over the same period. Notably, gold prices have rallied by ₹ 10,000 in just the past 74 days. The asset has delivered positive returns in 16 of the last 20 years, highlighting its resilience and investor appeal. 'This sustained rally is being driven by a confluence of global macroeconomic and geopolitical factors. These include heightened economic uncertainty, anticipated rate cuts by the US Fed, aggressive central bank gold purchases, and rising geopolitical tensions,' Sachdeva observed. With supportive macroeconomic drivers and strong momentum, the outlook for gold remains bullish in the near term. According to Sachdeva, if tensions in the Middle East escalate further, another wave of safe-haven buying could propel gold prices toward the $3,500 mark. 'A breakout above that level could drive prices even higher toward the $3,590 per ounce where prices are likely to witness some resistance. In the domestic market, MCX gold is potentially heading towards ₹ 1,05,000 per 10 grams, with near-term support seen at ₹ 96,200 level,' Sachdeva said. NS Ramaswamy, Head -Commodity Desk and CRM at Ventura Securities, expects COMEX gold price to create a fresh high of $3,540 in the short term, with resistance at $3,476, and support seen at $3,400 - $3,345 levels. 'MCX gold August futures presently has support at ₹ 98,900, and is poised to surge to ₹ 1,02,000 in the short term,' said Ramaswamy. Goldman Sachs reiterated its forecast that structurally strong central bank buying will raise the gold price to $3,700 per ounce by end-2025 and $4,000 by mid-2026. BofA sees a path for gold to rally to $4,000 per ounce over the next 12 months.

Iran Israel war: Bad news for Gautam Adani due to...

Gautam Adani has extensive investments in Israel. (File) Iran-Israel War: The recent escalation in the Iran-Israel war has brought major concerns for Gautam Adani, India's second richest man, as the Adani Group boss has made huge investments in Israel, which are now under a major threat as the conflict in the Middle East is likely to boil over into a major military confrontation between Iran and Israel. As per details, Gautam Adani-led Adani Group has extensive investments in Israel, ranging from high-stakes defense ventures with Israeli defense firms, to the Haifa port, in which the group, in partnership with Israel's Gadot Group, purchased a 70 percent stake in 2023 for $1.2 billion. Adani Ports has major stake in Israel's Haifa Port The Haifa Port is one of key trade ports for Israel, and also accounts for around 3 percent of the total cargo volume of Adani Ports. However, Gautam Adani's investment in the Israeli port is now under serious threat due to escalation in the Iran-Israel war. According, regional stability has drastically declined amid the raging Iran-Israel war, and could result in delays in cargo delivery at the Haifa Port and changes in shipping routes. Iran launched a barrage of drones and missiles at Israel on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday in response to the latter airstrikes in the country, that killed several top Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists. The Haifa Port remained untouched in the Iranian assault as it located in northern Israel, while the attack took place in the southern part. However, future Iranian attacks may not spare's Israel's north, and also threatens to affect Mediterranean trade routes. Adani Group's joint defense ventures in Israel Notably, Gautam Adani's investments in Israel are not limited to ports, but extend to significant joint defense ventures in the Jewish state. In 2018, Adani Enterprises partnered with Israel's Elbit Systems, establishing the Adani Elbit Advanced Systems India, which manufactures Hermes 900 drones in Hyderabad, that are extensively used by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). While Adani's defense venture is likely to benefit from the ongoing conflict, his investment in Haifa Port faces a major threat as tensions escalate.

What Spike In Pizza Orders Near Pentagon Indicates About Global Crises

As Israel prepared to launch airstrikes on Iran as part of its Operation Lion, there was frantic activity on the nights of June 12 and 13 thousands of miles away at pizza outlets in Arlington, Virginia. What's the connection, you ask? Most of these fast-food chains that reported unusually high activity and sales were located near the Pentagon, the US military headquarters. The spike in pizza orders near the Pentagon and the US Department of Defence has, on multiple occasions in the past, accurately predicted global crises, according to a report in The Economic Times. An X account, Pentagon Pizza Index, now records and reports the activity on a regular basis, often indicating what's brewing in international politics. On Friday, roughly an hour before the first reports of Israeli strikes on Iran came in, pizza orders around the Pentagon spiked. 'As of 6:59 pm ET nearly all pizza establishments nearby the Pentagon have experienced a HUGE surge in activity,' Pentagon Pizza Report posted on Thursday. As of 6:59pm ET nearly all pizza establishments nearby the Pentagon have experienced a HUGE surge in activity. — Pentagon Pizza Report (@PenPizzaReport) June 12, 2025 On June 13, there were similar reports. "With about an hour left before close, the 2nd closest Dominos to the Pentagon (about 8 min drive) is experiencing EXTREMELY high levels of traffic compared to a normal Thursday at about 11:00 pm ET," the account posted. With 30 min to close, this Dominos continues to experience extremely high traffic. Freddie's Beach Bar, however, has jumped back up to average levels of activity. — Pentagon Pizza Report (@PenPizzaReport) June 13, 2025 Cold War It all started during the Cold War when the Soviet operatives noticed the pizza delivery activity in Washington and reported to their bosses in Moscow if America was preparing for something big. On August 1, 1990, a Domino's franchisee in Washington reported a massive surge in pizza deliveries to the CIA buildings. On August 2, Saddam Hussein's Iraq invaded Kuwait. A similar pattern was noticed ahead of Operation Desert Storm in 1991, The Guardian reported. Over the years, the theory remained in place and has now made its way to social media. The Pentagon Pizza Index, among some of the other pages, used open-source intelligence (OSINT) tools, including Google Maps and real-time restaurant activity. Iran Hits Back On Friday night and Saturday morning, Iran struck back at Israel's largest cities - Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Air raid sirens were heard and people ran to seek cover in bomb shelters as Israeli defence systems intercepted Iranian missiles in the sky. The Iranian retaliation came after Israel targeted the Islamic Republic's military and nuclear installations and killed multiple high-ranking military officials, including Hossein Salami, the chief of the Revolutionary Guards.
