Quebecor Inc. reports $217.7M second-quarter profit, up from a year earlier

MONTREAL – Quebecor Inc. reported its second-quarter profit rose compared with a year ago as revenues were down slightly. The telecommunications and media company says its net income attributable to shareholders totalled $217.7 million or 95 cents per share for the quarter ended June 30. The result compared with a profit of $207.6 million or 90 cents per share in the same period of 2024. Revenue for the quarter totalled $1.38 billion, down from $1.39 billion last year. On an adjusted basis, Quebecor says its income from operating activities amounted to 99 cents per share, up from an adjusted profit of 89 cents per share in the second quarter of 2024. Quebecor chief executive Pierre Karl Péladeau says the company continues to gain market share 'in a fiercely competitive market environment … by offering innovative products at competitive prices, while expanding access to our state‑of‑the‑art technology for a growing number of Canadians.' South Bow reports profit of US$96 million in second quarter

CALGARY – Pipeline operator South Bow Corp. says it had a net income of US$96 million in its second quarter, up from US$88 million in the same quarter last year. Calgary-based South Bow says earnings amounted to 46 cents per share in the quarter ending June 30, up from 42 cents last year. On an adjusted basis, its profit worked out to 42 cents per share, up from 34 cents last year, while the mean analyst expectation had been for 34 cents per share this quarter as well, according to LSEG Data & Analytics. The company had average throughput of 544,000 barrels per day on its Keystone pipeline, and 760,000 barrels per day on the U.S. Gulf Coast segment of the Keystone pipeline system. On April 8, the company had an oil spill on its Keystone pipeline near Fort Ransom, N.D., that forced it to shut down the line, but it reopened the line on April 15. It says it completed cleanup of the roughly 3,500-barrel spill in early June, with costs related to the incident totalling US$58 million. Acquisition growth at engineering firm WSP Global delivers Q2 rise in revenue, profit

MONTREAL – WSP Global Inc. saw its second-quarter revenue and earnings climb as the company experienced strong acquisition growth. The Montreal-based engineering firm says its net earnings attributable to shareholders reached $279.4 million, up from $184.1 million in the same period a year earlier. WSP says its revenue climbed almost 15 per cent to $4.51 billion in the three months ended June 28. On an adjusted basis, its net earnings increased to $2.35 per share from $1.89 per share, beating analysts' expectations of $2.27 per share, according to financial markets firm LSEG Data & Analytics. WSP's backlog jumped nearly 11 per cent from a year earlier to $16.3 billion. Its backlog increases were heftiest in the Nordics, Australia and New Zealand.
