Roma turn to Rowe after Marseille pick up Paixao
The Giallorossi had wanted an attacking wide player to suit new coach Gian Piero Gasperini and Paixao was one of the first choices.
However, it quickly became apparent that the Feyenoord man was going to be too expensive, as today Olympique Marseille beat Leeds United to the deal with an offer worth €30m plus €5m in add-ons.
Rowe new name on Roma radar

According to Calciomercato.com, Roma are instead turning their focus towards a player whose place will be taken by Paixao.
Rowe is fresh from winning the Under-21 European Championship with England and completed the transfer from Norwich City to Marseille for a total €16.5m after an initial loan.
Atalanta had also been linked with the 22-year-old, seeing him as an alternative to Ademola Lookman if the Nigerian moves to Inter.
The arrival of Paixao means Marseille are more likely to sell and it's reported the asking price is now €20m.
Rowe scored three goals with three assists in 28 Ligue 1 appearances last season.

Leclerc targets Ferrari's first F1 win of the year from pole at Hungarian Grand Prix
BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Charles Leclerc will be chasing Ferrari's first win in Formula 1 this year after taking a surprise pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix ahead of title contenders Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. Pole position is usually a big advantage in Hungary, where it's tough to overtake, but the chance of rain gives the drivers and teams an extra factor to consider. Leclerc surprised the two McLaren drivers — and himself, too — when he took the first pole position for Ferrari since October in qualifying on Saturday. Standings leader Piastri starts second and his teammate Norris is third after both were within a tenth of a second of Leclerc's time. Defending champion Max Verstappen said 'nothing has really worked' for him and Red Bull in Hungary after he qualified eighth following complaints his car felt unbalanced. Lewis Hamilton said he felt 'absolutely useless' after he placed 12th in qualifying for Ferrari, a stark contrast to his teammate on pole. Hamilton even suggested the team might 'need to change driver' after his performance. ___ AP auto racing: The Associated Press

Real Madrid versatile forward's new contract is almost ready and set to be signed
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Brahim Diaz is on the verge of signing a new contract with Real Madrid. The versatile forward has agreed to all terms, and the deal is expected to be finalised in the coming days. This marks another strong vote of confidence in the 26-year-old, who has earned a trusted role under manager Xabi Alonso. Despite speculation linking him with a move away this summer, particularly to Turkish side Fenerbahce, Brahim has no intention of leaving. As reported before, the rumours gained momentum in recent days, largely due to his close relationship with Fenerbahce's Arda Guler. Their public bond during the last season had fans wondering whether a move could be on the cards. No plans to leave Madrid Reports in Turkey suggested Fenerbahce were keen on bringing Brahim in, but those claims have now been dismissed. The Morocco international, who turns 26 today, is fully committed to staying at Real Madrid and has no interest in entertaining offers from elsewhere. The official announcement of his renewal is expected shortly, following the completion of formalities. The new contract further solidifies his place in the squad as a reliable and adaptable option across the attacking line. Valuable squad player for Xabi Alonso While Brahim may not be a guaranteed starter in the big games, his value to the squad cannot be understated. He brings depth, energy, and a team-first attitude, traits highly valued by the coaching staff. He stays fit, trains hard, and never complains about his role. In a long and demanding season, players like Brahim are essential for keeping the squad balanced and ready. Real Madrid's decision to renew his contract underlines their trust in him, not just for now, but for the seasons ahead.

Report: Barcelona consider €70m offer from Premier League side
Manchester United's €70M Move for Fermín: High Stakes and Big Decisions at Barcelona United's Bold Interest Signals Serious Squad Rebuild Manchester United have stepped up their summer business with an audacious move for Barcelona midfielder Fermín López, submitting an offer exceeding €70 million. As reported by Sport, both Barça and the player's representatives are aware of United's interest, though 'no progress has been made' at this stage. The Premier League giants are desperate to reshape their squad under Ruben Amorim and see Fermín as a perfect fit due to his 'playing style, goalscoring ability, and great potential.' Photo IMAGO Interestingly, discussions between United and Barça over Rashford helped rekindle United's interest in Fermín. According to Sport, 'There was a good understanding between the entities, and relations are fluid,' hinting at the possibility of further dealings between the clubs before the window closes. Barcelona's Financial Reality vs Sporting Priorities Barcelona are facing a classic dilemma—retain one of La Masia's rising stars or cash in to ease financial pressures. Selling Fermín for €70 million would 'solve all the financial issues with the first team in one fell swoop,' Sport states. It would also allow them to implement La Liga's crucial 1:1 rule for player registration, enabling them to finalise contract renewals and complete further signings. Although head coach Hansi Flick 'wouldn't object' to Fermín's sale at a high price, the midfielder is highly rated within the club. He featured prominently during the decisive phase of last season and represents the ideal success story from Barça's academy. However, the midfield is 'significantly overbooked,' making his sale a practical, if painful, solution. United's Lucrative Offer Still Faces Player Resistance Fermín has already rejected previous approaches from Saudi Arabia, Chelsea, and Arsenal this summer, with Sport reporting that he 'wanted to stay at Barça no matter what.' United's approach includes 'practically doubling his salary' to entice him to move, but the player's preference remains uncertain. Ultimately, 'it will be the player himself and his entourage who will make the decision.' Potential Turning Point in Barcelona's Transfer Window If the deal materialises, it would be one of Barça's biggest-ever sales. While fans may lament losing a homegrown talent, the club's hierarchy see this as a 'historic opportunity.' Selling Fermín would provide immediate financial relief and enable Barça to act decisively in the market. For Manchester United, landing Fermín could be a statement signing—both for now and for the future. Our View – EPL Index Analysis From a Manchester United fan's perspective, this reported move for Fermín López is both exciting and slightly concerning. On the one hand, targeting a technically gifted, high-potential midfielder fits Ruben Amorim's vision. Fermín is dynamic, has an eye for goal, and is comfortable in tight spaces—exactly what United have often lacked in midfield transitions. However, €70 million is a steep price for a player with just one full top-flight season under his belt. While the fee could be justified by potential and market inflation, United fans will naturally compare it to past big-money deals that failed to deliver consistent returns. Financially, doubling Fermín's wages might be necessary, but that also raises questions about wage structure and dressing room balance. United supporters will back a move that energises the team and reflects a clear tactical plan. But it's fair to say this one has the feel of a high-risk, high-reward signing. If it comes off, Fermín could be the heartbeat of a new-look midfield—but only time will tell.
