NBC Pulls Viral Chinese Paraglider Video Over Concerns It Was AI Generated
A dramatic video described as showing a Chinese paraglider surviving an unplanned 8,500m (27,000 ft) ascent and subzero temperatures has been pulled from the website of NBC News over concerns that it may be AI generated.
In a note on its news site, the network said: 'NBC News has determined that some of the footage provided by Chinese state broadcaster CCTV and distributed by Reuters that appeared in our initial coverage was AI-generated. We have removed this video and are continuing to report on the veracity of the story. This note will be updated in due course.'

The network was among thousands of news organizations worldwide to have posted the video in recent days, ranging from the UK's BBC and to France's TF1 to the websites of newspapers such as The Guardian and The New York Times.
According to the story which broke earlier this week the video is described as showing 55-year paraglider Peng Yujiang's terrifying ascent after his equipment became caught in an updraft known as a 'cloud suck'.
The video, which features Peng battling with strong winds and then looking dazed and frostbitten above the clouds, was first posted on Chinese video-sharing App Douyin, the country's version of TikTok.
The footage was then licensed by Chinese State TV network CCTV and a number of other viral video distributors.
Concerns over the footage come amid growing challenges for news organizations around AI-generated video and authenticating real footage.
With a question mark hanging over the authenticity of the video, the veracity of the story is also being re-investigated.
In a separate story, NBC said it had reached out to several social media accounts connected to Peng but had not received a response.
Deadline has contacted NBC and a number of other news outlets which posted the material for comment, as well as CCTV, but has not received a response from any of the organizations.

Nobody Wants This cast announce release date for season two
Kristen Bell and Adam Brody have confirmed season two of Nobody Wants This will drop later this year. Loosely inspired by creator Erin Foster's own experiences, the hit Netflix show follows agnostic podcaster Joanne (Bell) as she starts a relationship with an unconventional rabbi named Noah (Brody). The show was renewed for a second series shortly after it premiered via the streamer last September, and on Sunday, the cast revealed the new episodes will drop on 23 October. The news was shared by Bell, Brody, and fellow actors Justine Lupe, Timothy Simons, and Jackie Tohn at Netflix's FYSEE LA Emmy Event. In addition, producers posted a video online in which the actors are seen celebrating the release date by asking a Magic 8 Ball questions regarding the "scoop" on the second season. Bell begins by asking, "Will the Matzah Ballers (fictional basketball team) make the playoffs?" to which she gets the response: "Try again, loser." The cast also questions whether there will be "another iconic kiss this season," referring to a memorable scene between Bell and Brody's characters in the second episode, and if Joanne's sister Morgan, as played by Lupe, will "find love". To conclude, Bell asks the Magic 8 Ball what's coming in October, to which she gets the response: "Ask a rabbi". "And the rabbi says: season two! Your favourite show and mine, Nobody Wants This," adds Brody. In a recent interview for Netflix's Queue magazine, the former star of The O.C. recalled how the entire cast of Nobody Wants This instantly bonded. "We just enjoy each other so much," he gushed. "I know these are early days, but we're not young kids. We're stable. And I would imagine if we go a long time, we'll still feel that way. I just really, really, really like everyone."

‘Keep on Buying,' Says Morgan Stanley About Tesla Stock
Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) stock is back in focus as Elon Musk shifts gears, stepping away from political headlines and returning his attention to the company that made him a household name. Confident Investing Starts Here: The move was no doubt greeted enthusiastically by Tesla investors, who have grown frustrated with Musk's high-profile distractions since becoming Trump's 'first buddy.' But beyond the optics, Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas, a longtime Tesla bull, believes there's more at stake, pointing to broader strategic implications tied to Musk's renewed commitment. 'In our view,' Jonas noted, 'Tesla's expertise in manufacturing, data collection, robotics/ physical AI, energy, supply chain and infrastructure are more critical than ever before to put the US on an even footing with China in embodied AI.' Jonas points to China's rapid progress in humanoid robotics – what he calls the 'Humanoid Olympics.' After showcasing robots running a half marathon and competing in combat sports, China is now moving toward full-on humanoid games. 'China's gamification of robotic innovation is accelerating its path to AI supremacy,' says Jonas, who wonders if the US should fight back with a 'Humanoid Ninja Warrior.' The specter of Chinese EV maker BYD looms large too. The company announced significant price reductions across its entire lineup recently – ranging from 10% to nearly 30%. Notably, the price of its budget-friendly Seagull model was slashed to just RMB 55,800 (under $8,000). 'If you want evidence of the 'race to the bottom' in global EV prices, look no further,' says Jonas. The analyst also wonders if Musk might be having a change of heart regarding one possible business venture. For years, he has dismissed the idea of Tesla building eVTOLs or drones, pointing to concerns like noise, privacy issues, public nuisance, and inadequate battery energy density. However, during a recent all-hands meeting, when asked about the possibility of making a plane, Musk paused before replying that the company is currently 'stretched pretty thin.' 'In our opinion,' says Jonas, 'that's a decidedly different type of answer. Is Tesla an aviation/defense-tech company in auto/consumer clothing?' As for the upcoming Cybercab launch, slated for June 12, as with most highly anticipated Tesla events, Jonas thinks it's best to keep a lid on expectations. That said, he'll be watching closely for ongoing updates in the following days and weeks – particularly regarding network performance and growth metrics like vehicle count, mileage, and trip volume. All in all, Jonas remains on TSLA's side, assigning an Overweight (i.e., Buy) rating with a $410 price target, implying potential upside of 18% from current levels.
