Cremonese promoted to Serie A with playoff win over Spezia
Cremonese were promoted to Serie A after a two-year absence, following a 3–2 victory at Spezia in the second leg of their playoff final on Sunday.
After the first game ended goalless on Thursday, the second match turned into a thriller as a double from Manuel De Luca and a goal from Michele Collocolo gave Cremonese a three-goal lead.
Spezia rallied with two late goals but could not overcome the deficit and will remain in Serie B for the next season.
The Lombardy club Cremonese, relegated in 2023, will now join Pisa and Sassuolo in returning to Italian top flight, taking the places of Empoli, Venezia and Monza, who were relegated at the end of the season.
"This season will be remembered for all we achieved: with sheer determination and plenty of drive, we secured promotion," Cremonese manager Giovanni Stroppa told DAZN. REUTERS

This comes after fans of several Premier League clubs united under the Football Supporters' Association campaign "Stop Exploiting Loyalty", prompting a ticket price freeze next season from clubs like Liverpool, Brentford, and Manchester City. Despite a few muddled moments, the world number seven set up a meeting with either defending champion Carlos Alcaraz or Tommy Paul of the U.S. as he continues his renaissance after some soul searching. Musetti, who said he put some order in his mind and game, did not let frustration take the best of him after losing the second set and once he found his groove, there was no stopping him as 15th seed Tiafoe gradually lost the plot, twice arguing with the chair umpire over line calls. He bowed out with yet another routine shot into the net, his 'Big Foe' neck chain dripping with sweat as a testimony of the battle just fought. The Italian, however, was not completely flawless and he faced a break point at 4-2, which he saw off thanks to his mesmerizing backhand. He sealed the opening set on his opponent's serve when Tiafoe's volley sailed wide. Musetti's game, however, needed some fine-tuning and Tiafoe jumped on the occasion to bank on errors here and there to snatch an early break in the second set. He held serve throughout to level the contest as Musetti seemed to struggle adjusting to the windy conditions on Court Philippe Chatrier. Musetti dug deep in the third and played a near-perfect game on Tiafoe's serve to surge 2-1 ahead. A modest second serve met Musetti's powerful crosscourt return and after trading heavy topspin shots, Tiafoe attempted a crafty drop shot, but the Italian charged forward for a clinical backhand winner on the baseline. Inter suffered a dismal end to their campaign with Saturday's thrashing in Munich coming after they finished second in Serie A, one point behind champions Napoli, and were knocked out in the Coppa Italia semi-finals 4–1 on aggregate by city rivals AC Milan. Inter face a race against time to appoint a new manager before the Club World Cup, with their campaign getting underway against Mexican side Monterrey on June 18. "The time has come for me to say goodbye to this club after a four-year journey, during which I gave everything," Inzaghi said in a separate statement.
