Dem city splashes on controversial $65M homeless center... but only trans people are allowed to stay there

Daily Maila day ago
Democrat-run New York City has opened up a homeless shelter that is reserved for transgender people at a cost to taxpayers of $65 million over the next five years.
The city-funded Ace's Place homeless shelter in Long Island City announced its opening on Tuesday.
Officials said the facility is the only of its kind in the entire nation and will offer up 150 beds to transgender New Yorkers in need.
'This shelter is a hard-fought declaration that our transgender and gender nonconforming siblings will no longer be pushed to the margins,' Sean Ebony Coleman, CEO of Destination Tomorrow, which is managing the shelter, said.
Coleman told the Gothamist that the shelter is named after his mother, whose nickname was Ace.
While Destination Tomorrow, a Bronx-based LGBTQ + center, is running the facility, the city is footing the bill.
Through 2030, about $65 million will be poured into the shelter. This equates to annual cost of about $86,700 per bed over the period.
'Ace's Place will offer Transgender New Yorkers a safe place to heal and stabilize in trauma-informed settings with the support of staff who are deeply invested in their growth and wellbeing,' Department of Social Services Commissioner Molly Wasow Park said.
Park told the Gothamist New York City assigns people to shelters based on their gender identity.
New York City is mandated to reserve 30 beds citywide for transgender or gender non-conforming people.
These individuals can still live in traditional shelters or be transferred to Ace's Place now that is it open, Park explained.
Coleman, who identifies as trans-masculine, said this kind of shelter has been a long-awaited addition to the city.
He told the Gothamist: 'Can you imagine going into an environment and you're asking for help and they're constantly misgendering you and constantly telling you you're not who you say you are, how do you learn in that environment?
'How do you thrive in that environment? It's almost impossible.'
The shelter has a full-time psychiatric nurse onsite, as well as social workers to help coach and support its residents.
Destination Tomorrow will also be implementing its 'holistic' approaches to mental wellness, offering activities including yoga and meditation.
The nonprofit also plans on starting up culinary programs for people living at the shelter.
Through these offerings, residents will get hands-on kitchen experience.
Park said she is thrilled to announce Ace's Place's opening as transgender rights 'are under attack.'
The liberal city opened the first of its kind shelter as Donald Trump has launched efforts against gender-affirming care and banned transwomen from competing in women's sports.
Roughly one-third of all transgender people in the US are homeless at some point in their lives.

Trump orders new census that excludes illegal immigrants

President Donald Trump directed the Commerce Department to start rolling out a new census excluding illegal immigrants from the population count. The president's announcement was released to Trump's followers on Truth Social on Thursday, leading to a fierce reaction from the left and right. Trump's call for a rare, mid-decade census comes as Democrats and Republicans battle in several states over gerrymandering. The president is supporting efforts by Texas Republicans to redraw the Lone Star State's congressional map to boost the party's advantage in the upcoming midterm elections . Typically, redistricting for a state takes place every 10 years after the census data is completed and released. The GOP reform in Texas led to Democratic lawmakers fleeing the state in order to prevent a vote on redistricting. 'I have instructed our Department of Commerce to immediately begin work on a new and highly accurate CENSUS based on modern-day facts and figures and, importantly, using the results and information gained from the Presidential Election of 2024,' Trump wrote on Truth Social. He added, 'People who are in our Country illegally WILL NOT BE COUNTED IN THE CENSUS. Thank you for your attention to this matter!' Traditionally, the Commerce Department conducts a census once every decade. The last census occurred in 2020 amid the presidential election, while the next is scheduled for 2030. The census is essential for mapping the political influence of each state because the data is used to determine the number of seats in the U.S. House and to distribute federal funds. Moreover, the census ultimately decides how many electoral votes each state receives for the presidential elections. The total number of House and Senate seats in each state determines an individual state's electoral vote count. The U.S. Census Bureau currently includes 'unauthorized immigrants' as a part of the country's population figures. The Census Bureau's website states that 'all people (citizens and noncitizens) with a usual residence in the United States are included in the resident population for the census.' Previously, Trump sought to reform the census count in 2020 when he attempted to include a citizenship question during his first White House term. Trump's 2020 memorandum was met with legal challenges in federal courts, claiming it violated the 14th Amendment. President Joe Biden eventually revoked Trump's census order after assuming office in 2021. Blue states, especially those located near the southern border, such as California, have a larger population of illegal immigrants compared to most red states. During a Wednesday evening interview with Fox News anchor Sean Hannity, White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller claimed that '20 to 30 of House Democrat seats wouldn't exist but for illegal aliens.' 'Let's not forget: Democrats rigged the 2020 Census by including illegal aliens," Miller told Hannity.

Trump calls for resignation of Intel chief a day after 100% chip tariff threat

Donald Trump has called on Intel's chief executive to resign, alleging Lip-Bu Tan had ties to the Chinese Communist party, sending the stock of the US chipmaker falling. 'The CEO of Intel is highly CONFLICTED and must resign, immediately,' Trump posted on Truth Social about Tan. 'There is no other solution to this problem. Thank you for your attention to this problem!' Shares in Intel dropped more than 3% in early trading. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Trump's post. Trump's comments came a day after he threatened a 100% tariff on imported semiconductors and chips, which could favor Intel as a US-based semiconductor firm. Trump did exclude Taiwan Semiconductor and Apple, companies that have said they plan to increase their investments in US manufacturing. Apple chief Tim Cook announced from the White House that the company would invest $100bn in US chip fabrication. Trump's criticism of Intel, which has lagged chipmakers such as Nvidia in producing graphics-processing chips suitable for AI applications, comes after Arkansas senator Tom Cotton wrote a letter to company chairman Frank Yeary expressing concern over Tan's investments and ties to semiconductor firms that are reportedly linked to the CCP and the People's Liberation Army, the party's military arm. Cotton, a Republican, asked Intel's board if Tan had divested his interests and questioned if Tan's previous leadership of Cadence Design Systems, a company that last month said it had sold products to China's National University of Defense Technology, a violation of US export controls. Cotton said Tan controlled dozens of Chinese companies, at least eight of which had ties to the People's Liberation Army. In a statement, the company said: 'Intel and Mr Tan are deeply committed to the national security of the United States and the integrity of our role in the US defense ecosystem. We appreciate Senator Cotton's focus on these shared priorities. We look forward to addressing these matters with the senator.' Tan, 65, is regarded as an industry veteran in technology and venture capital. He was tapped to lead the once-dominant personal computing and laptop chipmaker in March as part of a turnaround effort. Intel's market valuation is about $89bn, compared with $4.4tn for rival Nvidia. Sign up to TechScape A weekly dive in to how technology is shaping our lives after newsletter promotion Tan, 65, has said he wants to sell off Intel assets that are not core to the company's revitalization, cut jobs and to delay or cancel projects to reduce operating expenses. Intel has received about $8bn from the Chips and Science Act for US investments, the Biden-era legislation framed as a national security imperative to reduce US dependence on foreign chip production. A number of foreign-based chipmakers have recently announced they are boosting US chip production , including Taiwan's TSMC and South Korea's Samsung. Beneficiaries of the Chips act besides Intel include TSMC, Micron Technology, Samsung, GlobalFoundries and Texas Instruments. But the $1bn grants are dwarfed by more than $400bn in pledged private-sector investments. The Trump administration wants Congress to scrap the Chips Act, arguing that tariffs are a more effective incentive for companies to build fabrication plants on US soil, pointing to TSMC's decision to expand its chipmaking capacity from three to six plants in Arizona.

Steve Bannon is secretly plotting a sensational run for president in 2028 ... and he's already knifing his likely rival: 'I created him'

Steve Bannon is in the early stages of planning an audacious run for president in 2028, well-placed sources have told the Daily Mail. The campaign would divide the Make America Great Again movement Bannon helped build by setting up a herculean battle with Vice President JD Vance, who is all but certain to launch his own 2028 candidacy, potentially with Donald Trump's blessing. A Bannon-Vance primary would trigger an explosive civil war within Trump's populist movement, pitting its original architect against its institutional inheritor. Sources close to Steve Bannon and Trump have told Daily Mail the 71-year-old War Room host has begun soliciting political advice. One source in Bannon's inner circle told the Daily Mail that the former strategist has privately ridiculed the prospect of Vance at the top of the ticket. 'Love him… but Vance is not tough enough to run in 2028,' the source said Bannon has conveyed to multiple people in his circles. Bannon declined to comment to the Daily Mail while a spokesperson for Vance did not respond to a Daily Mail request for comment. The seeds of Bannon's potential run emerges just days after Trump said Vance would likely be the favorite to succeed him. One Republican consultant said while Bannon has long entertained aspirations to run for president, his specific plan remains in the contemplative stage. Bannon is at the tip of the intellectual spear of the MAGA movement and a savvy media operator with an influential 'War Room' show who has previously teased running for president. In an interview with Politico in March, Bannon told reporters: 'I don't think like a politician… all I do is back President Trump and try to move the populist agenda and the America First agenda.' Bannon said the question of running for office was 'too absurd' when asked why he would not completely rule out being a White House candidate. At the CPAC conference in February, conservative attendees chose Vance as the top contender for president with 61 percent of the vote - but Bannon was second with a notable 12 percent. Both GOP sources tell the Daily Mail Bannon was crucial to helping Vance in a crowded primary race for U.S. Senate in Ohio by assisting him with nailing down a 'MAGA' identity. One source described Bannon as having 'pushed and propped him up' to fit the role of vice president. 'He created his image,' the first source claimed. Bannon has repeatedly floated the unconstitutional idea that Trump should campaign for a third term, citing a vaguary of 'options' when pressed for details. Trump has said as recently as this week he probably won't attempt to push the two-term limit even though he's tempted to. While Bannon deliberates plans on running for president, he also finds himself seated at the center of another volatile story: the Jeffrey Epstein files. Bannon claims to have about 15 hours of never-released videotape footage of Epstein that was shot in 2019 before his death. The videos were shot as part of a documentary to repair Epstein's reputation, according to his brother. If he doesn't release the video, the Republican source in Bannon's inner circle says he could possibly save and deploy them for some sort of leverage in 2028.
