English tourist in critical condition after assault in Dublin
Emergency services attended the scene of the incident in the Temple Bar Square area at around 12.30am on Thursday.
A man aged in his 40s, understood to be an English tourist, was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
The scene was preserved and a technical examination has been carried out.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses or to anyone who may have information about the incident to get in contact.
They are also appealing to anyone with video footage relevant to the investigation to contact Pearse Street Garda Station on (01)666 9000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

A man has been seriously injured after an alleged fight with a group of men outside an Indian restaurant at Piccadilly Circus. Masala Zone at Piccadilly Circus has been taped off by police for most of the day (August 21) after an alleged assault in the early morning, around 6.21am. Man charged in alleged attack of 3 women in 2 Chicago neighborhoods
Chicago police have charged a man they said attacked three women in two Chicago neighborhoods this month. Noaman Patel, 22, of Chicago, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with three felony counts of aggravated battery in a public place. Police said Patel was identified as the suspect who allegedly attacked a 53-year-old on Aug. 4, in the 2800 block of Western Avenue, and a 33-year-old on the same block on Aug. 6. It is further alleged that he attacked a 29-year-old in the 6100 block of North Maplewood on Aug. 14. Police said Patel was placed into custody and charged accordingly. He is scheduled to appear at a detention hearing on Thursday.
