Yet in the run up to the US President's potentially titanic meeting in Alaska with Vladimir Putin, the White House has been keen to play down expectations.
Today's summit is a 'feel-out meeting' according to Trump himself, while White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called it 'a listening exercise for the president.'
