Lucknow: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday virtually inaugurated 103 modernised railway stations across the country, including 19 of Uttar Pradesh, under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme from Rajasthan's Bikaner.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, joined virtually from Lucknow, to witness the occasion that marks a significant leap in the state's infrastructure.
"All 103 Amrit Stations across India, including 19 in Uttar Pradesh, dedicated today by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, embody New India's blend of heritage preservation, development resolve, and the synergy of speed and pride," CM Yogi said on X.
He emphasized that these stations were not just brick-and-mortar upgrades but symbols of contemporary India's aspirations where modern amenities coexist with cultural heritage, and robust infrastructure fuels connectivity and economic growth.
The 19 upgraded stations of UP are North Eastern Railway's (NER's) Balrampur, Gola Gokarnnath, Mailani, Ramghat Halt, Siddharthnagar, Swami Narayan Chhappia of Lucknow division, Bareilly City, Hathras City, Izzatnagar and Ujhani of Izzatnagar division and Suraimanpur of Varanasi division. In North Central Railway's, Pokhraya of Jhansi division, Govindpuri and Karchana of Prayagraj division, Fatehabad, Govardhan and Idgah Agra of Agra division and from Northern Railway, Bijnor from Moradabad division and Saharanpur from Ambala division.
"Each station had been redesigned with modern waiting rooms, escalators, lifts and provisions for persons with disabilities. Digital display boards flashes train updates, eco-friendly designs have reduced carbon footprints, and architecture echoes the region's cultural tapestry--whether it was Awadh's intricate motifs or Saharanpur's woodwork heritage," said a railway official.
At Bareilly City, a weary traveler could now rest in a climate-controlled waiting room instead of a crowded platform.
At Siddharthnagar, escalators eased the journey for elderly pilgrims visiting Buddhist sites. In Govardhan, digital boards ensured no one missed a train, while local artisans' murals welcomed visitors, blending tradition with technology.
"These aren't just stations, they are gateways to opportunity, poised to boost tourism, trade and local economies," said the official.
After the inauguration, CM posted again, reflecting on the broader impact: "The redeveloped Amrit Stations reflect the vision of a New India, where modern amenities, cutting-edge technology, and cultural pride advance together.
They will undoubtedly boost regional development, promote local culture, and expand tourism and business opportunities."
He expressed gratitude to PM Modi, stating: "Heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister for these Amrit Stations that provide passengers with integrated modern facilities, an accessible and soulful travel experience."
The 103 stations, spread across 86 districts in 18 states and Union Territories, were built with an investment of over Rs 1,100 crore.
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme aims to renovate over 1,300 stations across the nation, highlighting regional architecture and passenger-centric facilities.
In the last 11 years, the railway ministry has laid down 34,000 km of new railway tracks and electrified 47,000 km of railway lines. New trains such as Vande Bharat, Namo Bharat, Amrit Bharat have been launched, and 42,000 ICF coaches have been converted to LHB coaches.
In 2023-24, renovation work started at 1,062 stations. Another 100 stations are set for completion in the next eight months, and 500 more stations are projected to be renovated by 2027.

Pune: The missing link project along the express way which is expected to reduce travel time between Pune and Mumbai by atleast 25 minutes may be completed only be end of this year, MSRDC officials told TOI on Friday. MSRDC Vice Chairman Anil Gaikwad told TOI that the missing link project is 95% complete. However, the work of the cable-stayed bridge in the Tiger Valley is still underway. "We do not want to rush this stretch and it has to be constructed properly as it involves highly skilled technical work. We are expecting that this stretch will only be completed by December 2025 considering the challenges," he told TOI. The earlier deadline for the opening of the project was August 2025. The project has two components_the tunnel and the cable stayed bridge. While the tunnel work is over, the bridge work can be taken after rains. Authorities have cited heavy rains and strong winds as the main reasons for the delay and said they do not want to compromise with safety as the work site is in a deep valley with high wind flow and heavy showers in monsoon. The missing link includes a 10.60 km long tunnel which is constructed and the adjoining cable-stayed bridge being built over the Tiger Valley which is incomplete. While the substructure work of the bridge is completed, the work of installing the cables is in progress. The bridge is being constructed at an elevation of over 180 from the ground. Once completed, the missing link is expected to reduce travel time between Pune-Mumbai by at least 25 minutes while the sharp curves on the current ghat section will be minimised reducing the risk of accidents. The traffic congestion in the ghat section is expected to reduce due to this missing link project. The overall cost of the project is estimated to be around Rs 6,695 crore. Govt to push Brand UP at PATA meet in Bangkok
L ucknow: The UP govt will showcase the state's tourism potential at the upcoming Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) 2025 meet, scheduled to be held in Bangkok from Aug 26-28. An official said: "The event will serve as a powerful platform for UP to project itself as an attractive destination for both international tourists and investors. This will elevate the tourism potential and economy of the state to new heights." Officials said that the tourism department will showcase UP's cultural, spiritual and historical richness through a beautifully designed 36-square-metre stall, highlighting major attractions such as Sarnath, Kushinagar and Shravasti under the Buddhist Circuit, as well as Varanasi, Ayodhya and the Prayagraj Mahakumbh. The stall will be equipped with LED wall screens and auto-navigation displays, offering dynamic visuals of the state's scenic tourist spots, they said. "An augmented reality (AR) based digital touch panel will allow visitors to take selfies with the stunning backdrops of six major destinations in UP. Guests will also get to explore the rich tradition of local handicrafts and the 'One District One Product' initiative," they said. The exhibit will feature creative displays of historic temples, their unique architecture and spiritual significance, offering visitors a deep glimpse into UP's rich religious and cultural legacy. 'The RPF's Commandos for Railway Security (CORAS) have been deployed on Vande Bharat trains on USBRL (Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link) between Katra and Kashmir,' an official told PTI. Salgandan (Ramban), Jun 6 (PTI) Commando forces of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), popularly known as CORAS, have been deployed for the security of Vande Bharat trains on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway line, ferrying passengers between the Kashmir Valley and Katra, the base camp of the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir. The commandos made their presence felt on the inaugural trains flagged off by the prime minister. Each of the two Vande Bharat trains will have 15 commandos and a supervisor each on board to ensure the security and safety of train travel, officials said. The units have been recently brought from outside and will be based in the Budgam area of the Kashmir valley and the Katra belt of Reasi district. After focusing on high-risk security operations, especially in areas with threats like Naxalite insurgency, this is the first time CORAS has been deployed in J-K. With the official flag-off by the prime minister, the Indian Railways will commence regular operations of the two new Vande Bharat trains on June 7. The trains will run six days a week, with Tuesdays reserved for maintenance, Railway officials said. The 272-km-long USBRL project, constructed at a cost of around Rs 43,780 crore, includes 36 tunnels (spanning 119 km) and 943 bridges, the officials said. The project establishes all-weather, seamless rail connectivity between the Kashmir valley and the rest of the country, aiming to transform regional mobility and drive socio-economic integration, they added.
