Dec date for eway missing link to open
Pune: The missing link project along the express way which is expected to reduce travel time between Pune and Mumbai by atleast 25 minutes may be completed only be end of this year, MSRDC officials told TOI on Friday.
MSRDC Vice Chairman Anil Gaikwad told TOI that the missing link project is 95% complete. However, the work of the cable-stayed bridge in the Tiger Valley is still underway. "We do not want to rush this stretch and it has to be constructed properly as it involves highly skilled technical work. We are expecting that this stretch will only be completed by December 2025 considering the challenges," he told TOI.
The earlier deadline for the opening of the project was August 2025.
The project has two components_the tunnel and the cable stayed bridge. While the tunnel work is over, the bridge work can be taken after rains.
Authorities have cited heavy rains and strong winds as the main reasons for the delay and said they do not want to compromise with safety as the work site is in a deep valley with high wind flow and heavy showers in monsoon.
The missing link includes a 10.60 km long tunnel which is constructed and the adjoining cable-stayed bridge being built over the Tiger Valley which is incomplete.
While the substructure work of the bridge is completed, the work of installing the cables is in progress. The bridge is being constructed at an elevation of over 180 from the ground.
Once completed, the missing link is expected to reduce travel time between Pune-Mumbai by at least 25 minutes while the sharp curves on the current ghat section will be minimised reducing the risk of accidents. The traffic congestion in the ghat section is expected to reduce due to this missing link project.
The overall cost of the project is estimated to be around Rs 6,695 crore.

MSRDC has appointed 22 private players to develop and operate full-fledged wayside amenities along the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi corridor, MSRDC Vice Chairman Anilkumar Gaikwad confirmed.
The wayside amenities for motorists such as fuel stations, garages, eateries, public conveniences, and first aid clinics are missing, heightening the risk of accidents along the way.
To fill the gap, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has appointed private players to develop these amenities and the full facilities are expected to come up in stages in the next two years.
Around 10 acres of land each will be dedicated for these locations. The Samruddhi Mahamarg spans 701 km, which is currently open to traffic.

Tourism dept plans international roadshows to attract tourists to Goa
Panaji: The tourism department plans to conduct international roadshows in the Gulf region, Denmark, Norway, Uzbekistan, Finland, Sweden, and Poland this year. 'These are the top countries based on social media statistics and the quantum of visitors,' said a department note. The department hopes to attract international tourists to Goa, including first-time travellers for wellness, MICE, leisure, and medical tourism. The department could tentatively spend at least Rs 4.3 crore on the roadshows, which officials say are crucial to depict Goa and India as favourable tourism destinations. As of now, the dates for the roadshows have not been announced, but the department has moved to appoint an event management agency to host the tourism roadshows. The department stated that the international roadshows help enhance Goa's 'visibility and presence' while also providing a platform for Goan tour operators, travel agents, hoteliers, and airlines to network and connect with their international counterparts. 'The target of this participation is to attract international tourists to Goa for various segments of tourism, and accordingly, the agency will have to evolve a strategy to achieve these goals,' said a department official. A six-member team from Goa is likely to participate in the international tourism roadshows. While critics, including the Travel and Tourism Association of Goa, have expressed concern about the expenditure on these roadshows, the tourism department believes that such outreach helps Goa compete with international markets. 'We need to promote Goa as a safe and world-class tourism destination to ensure a sustained flow of tourists into Goa. We will present a marketing plan for approval,' said an official. In April, the tourism department's empowered committee called for a rethink on the department's participation in roadshows and expos, particularly in foreign countries. The department's top officials agreed to 'restructure and streamline' roadshows and trade shows — both domestic and international — based on a cost-benefit analysis. At that time, the tourism department said that participation in trade expos and roadshows 'must be aligned with clear performance benchmarks and measurable outcomes' so that govt funds were efficiently utilised.

Drones and AI technology to be used for crowd control during Ashadi Wari at Pandharpur
Kolhapur: Solapur collector Kumar Ashirwad announced the district planning committee has sanctioned Rs 1.5 crore for crowd management using drones and AI technology during Ashadi Wari at Pandharpur. The event attracts more than 10 lakh devotees from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. The district administration has arranged for water release from Ujani dam on June 18 to ensure adequate water levels at the Chandrabhaga ghat in Pandharpur by June 25, considering the devotees' ritual bath during Ashadi Ekadashi. Ashirwad said, "The police department will use AI technology and drones to control the crowd. The number of dindis (warkari groups) has been increasing for the last few years. Rest stops will be provided for the warkaris every 3-4km. These rest stops will be equipped with beds, water, toilets, medical facilities, and other amenities. Encroachments along the road will be removed soon. With rain intensity expected to stay on the higher side, the road potholes will be fixed. Bhopal: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) initiated a significant development for international air connectivity at Bhopal airport. AAI introduced a scheme of incentives to attract airline operators in Bhopal. "These airports currently have no international connections. To make this happen, they've proposed an incentive program for airlines," said Awasthi. He added, "The goal is to encourage airlines to start flying international routes from these locations. This will help these airports grow and better serve their communities." Airport officials mentioned that three of the 13 airports are major ones, while the other ten are smaller, non-major airports. The incentive scheme aims to encourage scheduled airlines to start international routes. The major airports included in the scheme are Patna, Srinagar, and Ayodhya. Srinagar and Port Blair are civil enclaves, meaning they share space with defence airports. The ten non-major airports are divided into three clusters. Cluster 1 includes Agartala, Imphal, Vadodara, and Bhopal. Cluster 2 has Rajkot, Gaya, Aurangabad, and Tirupati. Cluster 3 consists of Kushinagar and Port Blair. The incentive scheme offers benefits to airlines for each flight they land. For example, airlines flying to Agartala, Imphal, Vadodara, and Bhopal (Cluster 1) can get a full refund on landing fees, meaning they pay nothing to land their planes. With the 100% incentive, the airline pays nothing, saving them Rs. 57,129 per landing. Airlines also collect a "User Development Fee" (UDF) from passengers. This fee is used to improve airport facilities. For an A-320 with 144 passengers, the UDF collected would be Rs 107,280. The incentive scheme offers airlines a percentage of this UDF as an additional benefit. In Cluster 1, which includes Bhopal, the incentive is 10% of the UDF collected. This means airlines get an extra Rs 10,728, bringing the total UDF revenue to Rs 96,552. The total additional revenue for airlines in Cluster 1 is calculated from landing fee savings and UDF incentives. The 'Net Landing' revenue (savings on landing fees) for all four airports is Rs 474,426.4. The 'Net UDF' revenue (incentives on UDF) is Rs 75,580, giving a total additional revenue of Rs 548,476. The incentive percentages vary across the clusters, meaning the financial benefits for airlines will differ depending on which airports they fly to. The operations department hopes these incentives will be enough to attract airlines. More international flights will boost local economies and connect people to the world. The scheme aims to encourage international air connectivity and boost local economic development through these financial incentives.
