Reward offered in 2018 shooting death of Dayton mom

Yahoo22-05-2025

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Nearly seven years ago, a young mother was in the wrong place at the wrong time; Adriaunna Jackson was shot and killed after leaving a club, but police never found who fired the fatal shots.
Miami Valley Crime Stoppers is offering a $10,000 reward for information on who pulled the trigger.
Four days after Adriaunna's 21st birthday, her life was cut short. On July 6, 2018, multiple police cruisers rushed to West Siebenthaler Avenue and North Main Street after reports of gunfire just before 4 a.m. Dayton Police determined a dark colored Chevrolet Impala pulled up to a white Pontiac Grand Prix at the intersection and opened fire on the vehicle. Inside the white Pontiac Grand Prix riddled with bullet holes was 21-year-old Adriaunna. She was taken to Miami Valley Hospital where she died.
Two other people were in the car. One was not hurt. The other was shot but survived.
Nearly seven years later, the case is still open. Dayton Police Detective Angela Woody is working to close it.
'The more time that passes always creates a bigger challenge for law enforcement to get a case solved. But there is always the opportunity that there could be information out there that we missed or we didn't get and maybe someone's circumstances have changed,' states Detective Woody.
Dayton Police say the shooting stemmed from some kind of argument at a club in Harrison Township, which was less than two miles away from the crime scene.
'There had been a fight the night before at Club Plush. The belief is that somehow, that fight led to this shooting incident,' details Detective Woody.
Hoping for witnesses to come forward and fill in some of the missing information, Miami Valley Crime Stoppers is offering a $10,000 reward leading to an arrest and conviction.
'Her family still wants answers, and no one's been held accountable,' states Detective Woody.
If you have any information, report it to Crime Stoppers at 937-222-7867. You will remain anonymous.

Man gets decades in prison in fatal shooting, over-100 mph police chase

Jun. 3—A man shot and killed another man in Dayton and then led police in a chase with speeds over 100 mph. He is now facing more than 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to a manslaughter charge. William Gerald "Gerry" Hefner, 59, of Dayton pleaded guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter charged via a bill of information in addition to indicted charges of aggravated possession of drugs, having weapons while under disability, and failure to comply with orders or signal of a police officer, according to a plea agreement filed May 29 in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court. Hefner was charged in the June 1, 2023, death of 48-year-old Matthew Smith of Dayton. Multiple people called 911 just before 10:50 a.m. to report a shooting in the 100 block of Centre Street. One woman told dispatchers that her boyfriend and her friend were involved in the shooting and had both left, according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center records. She said that one left in a truck and the other ran away. A different caller told dispatchers that he was working in the area when a man ran up to a front door and said he was shot. The caller said that the man was shot in the top left side of his abdomen. He also told dispatchers that the man said he knew where the shooter was but didn't provide more information. "I didn't even hear a shot, so I'm not sure where it happened at," the caller said. The gunshot victim, later identified as Smith, was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, where he died later the same day from his injuries. Police said they identified Hefner as a suspect in the shooting and spotted his truck on camera the next day, noting that he had changed its appearance. Just before 10 p.m. June 7, an officer recognized Hefner driving a truck and started to pursue him. Dash camera footage of the chase showed the truck drive through yards and around traffic as well as running red lights and stop signs. Dayton Municipal Court records said the chase reached speeds of more than 100 mph. The chase came to an end near Salem Avenue and Denlinger Road in Trotwood when it drove through some grass and ran up against a pole. As part of the plea agreement, eight charges were dismissed, including murder and felonious assault. He was sentenced to a total of 20 to 25 1/2 years in prison without possibility of early release. He also must pay restitution for funeral and burial expenses and forfeit a Hi-Point 9mm Luger pistol. Staff writers Kristen Spicker and Jen Balduf contributed to this story.

3 sentenced for deadly 2023 Tempe drive-by shooting

The Brief Three men were sentenced for a deadly drive-by shooting in Tempe back in March 2023. A boy, 5, was killed and a teen boy and girl were injured in the shooting near 48th Street and Broadway Road. TEMPE, Ariz. - Three men were sentenced for their roles in a deadly Tempe drive-by shooting that killed a little boy and injured a teen and young girl. What we know In March 2023, Alfred Gary, Freddy Patterson and Charles Adams pulled up alongside a black Chevrolet Impala at a red light near 48th Street and Broadway Road in Tempe. Seven people were inside the Impala, mostly kids and teens, and they shot more than 20 rounds into it. A five-year-old boy was killed, and a 17-year-old boy and an eight-year-old girl were injured. "The defendants then picked up dinner before returning to the crime scene to take a video, which they used to brag about the shooting with fellow gang members," the Maricopa County Attorney's Office said. Documented gang members, Patterson and Adams, had an issue with a rival gang member inside the Impala. "All three defendants pleaded guilty to a range of felony offenses, including second-degree murder, drive-by shooting, conspiracy to commit a drive-by shooting, and aggravated assault. Gary was sentenced to 16 years in prison, while Patterson and Adams were each sentenced to 30 years in prison," MCAO said. Patterson and Adams had another five years tacked onto their sentences because of a drive-by shooting that happened two days earlier. They shot into a car with a mother and her kids inside – no one was hurt.
