OOBE seeking growth in business with new move
With studios in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle, OOBE is at the forefront of landscape architecture, having spent the past 15 years shaping landscapes that connect people with outdoor spaces. The practice is widely recognised for its sustainability-led approach to landscape architecture, urban design, master planning and building information modelling (BIM) services. The firm has delivered some of the most significant and high-profile public realm and development schemes in the country.
OOBE's portfolio includes work on transformative regeneration schemes such as The Spark, The Lumen and Biosphere at Newcastle Helix, a dynamic urban campus landscape that integrates rain gardens and biodiverse planting with a steeply sloped topography. In the Midlands, the team is helping to shape the vision for New Garden Square in Edgbaston – a striking build-to-rent community developed with Moda Living and Calthorpe Estates. Elsewhere, the Barbara Hepworth Building at the University of Huddersfield exemplifies OOBE's approach to integrating academic architecture and landscape into a single design language, while projects like Littlehaven Promenade in South Shields underline its capacity to deliver elegant, resilient coastal infrastructure.
In Scotland, OOBE is currently delivering the landscape vision for Blindwells, a major new community in East Lothian. Commissioned by Hargreaves Land, the project spans everything from town centre design and routes to school, to woodland corridors, play areas and a dedicated art strategy. At its heart is a commitment to biodiversity, wellbeing and creating a place where people feel genuinely connected to their surroundings.
The team is also leading the green infrastructure at Holland Park in Glasgow, where a bold build-to-rent development is being brought to life with thoughtfully designed public realm and sustainable planting. Just along the Clyde at Pacific Quay, OOBE has helped shape a distinctive riverside space that blends amenity, ecology and local character. Most recently, the practice completed the landscape design for the new Woodmill and St Columba's RC High School campus in Dunfermline – the world's largest Passivhaus school project – integrating rain gardens, attenuation basins and outdoor teaching spaces. With a growing portfolio and established presence in Edinburgh, OOBE continues to help shape some of the most exciting new places across Scotland.
The appointment of Building Relations PR marks a strategic move for OOBE as it looks to further strengthen its position in the property and construction sectors, showcasing its award-winning design ethos, collaborative approach and unique approach to placemaking.
Speaking about the new partnership, Emma McNicholas, Director at OOBE, said: 'As we approach our 15th year in business and reflect on the outstanding projects we've delivered, we feel it's time to take the business to the next level. We're excited to be working with Building Relations to raise our profile, make new connections and share the impact of our work more broadly. We have a strong reputation amongst our current partners and a high rate of repeat business, which we are exceptionally proud of.
'Building Relation's specialist knowledge of the property sector combined with its sustainability expertise, makes them the ideal partner to help us help us tell our story and communicate the value of our design-led approach. '
Rachel Colgan, Founding Director at Building Relations, commented: 'OOBE has delivered an impressive portfolio of landscape projects that help shape the way people interact with outdoor spaces and there are so many brilliant stories for us to help them share. Our teams in Edinburgh and London are looking forward to supporting OOBE as they look to grow their successful business across the UK.'

Arsenal's Calafiori secures 1-0 win at Manchester United
Arsenal's Riccardo Calafiori headed home an early corner, aided by a weak challenge from goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, to earn a 1-0 victory at Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday, spoiling the hosts' season opener. Despite a cast of new faces, Mikel Arteta's visitors proved they are still lethal from set pieces with Calafiori netting in the 13th minute. Arsenal's William Saliba backed into Turkish keeper Bayindir, who feebly batted the ball with one hand into the path of Italian Calafiori for an easy close-range header. Arsenal's set-piece coach is at it again 😏 The Gunners break the deadlock from a corner ⚪⚡ 📺 Stream #MUNARS on DStv: #SSPremierLeague — SuperSport Football ⚽️ (@SSFootball) August 17, 2025 United were otherwise the better team, with close-season signings Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu missing good chances. The home side had Arsenal pinned back for most of the second period and kept keeper David Raya busy, forcing him into a diving save to stop Mbeumo's powerful header. Set-piece specialists Arsenal have scored 31 league goals from corners since the start of the 2023-24 season, at least 11 more than any other team, and three of their last four league goals against United have been from corner kicks.

Warm temperatures expected in most parts of the country
As South Africa begins its transition out of winter, the South African Weather Service said temperatures are expected to rise noticeably across the country, with Gauteng set to warm up significantly from midweek. This marks a shift from the cooler days of early August and signals the start of a warmer season across much of the interior. Senior forecaster Tokelo Chiloane said the Southern African meteorological winter will come to an end by the end of August. 'So we start to see an influx of spring conditions, and we start to see a gradual increase of maximum temperatures,' she said. She added the coming week will be a bit warmer than last week. However, she said the warm weather, which is nothing out of the ordinary, doesn't mean that the country won't experience another system that might result in lower temperatures She added that should such a cold system arrive, the recovery period in temperatures won't be long. Chiloane said this week parts of the country will see a gradual increase — 'like a two or three degree difference compared to midwinter in terms of temperature'. TimesLIVE

Senzo Mchunu warns ANC on brink of collapse, urges urgent action
Embattled ANC NEC member Senzo Mchunu has warned that the ANC is on the verge of collapse, saying a serious intervention is needed to save it. Speaking at Machobeni in Ngwavuma in northern KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday during the tombstone unveiling of late struggle stalwart Nokuhamba Nyawo, Mchunu said the upcoming local government elections next year will be the end all be all in the ANC. 'If we do not win municipalities in the upcoming local government next year, come the national government elections, we will be history,' he said. Mchunu likened the ANC to a person walking on the edge of a cliff. He said the party needs to regroup before it is too late. 'We know that people still love the ANC ... We became big-headed and started taking them for granted and they punished us,' he said, adding there is still time to mend their ways. Mchunu said they can still recruit back all their members who had left the movement and joined other mushrooming parties. Mchunu was placed on special leave by President Cyril Ramaphosa after explosive corruption allegations made by KZN provincial police commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. During his speech, he avoided delving into allegations made against him and only said he is waiting for the right time to talk in the commission. KZN ANC coordinator Mike Mabuyakhulu said they are in a robust campaign to bring back numbers in the party. Mabuyakhulu said he is optimistic that the party would bounce back and reclaim its glory. He said they do not like coalitions and want to lead alone. 'To be in a coalition with the IFP and DA does not mean that they are friends, they are virals,' he said. Mabuyakhulu said the party needs to blame itself for losing power. 'We need to work extra hard to regain public trust,' Mabuyakhulu said. ANC leader in the Nokuhamba Nyawo region Verus Ncamphalala said they are going for a clean sweep in their region in the upcoming local government elections next year in honour of Nyawo. 'There is no better way to honour Mam' Nyawo than winning in all municipalities in our region,' said Ncamphalala. The region comprises four local municipalities — Umhlabuyalunga, Jozini, Mtubatuba and Big Five Hlabisa — all these municipalities are led by the IFP. Nyawo used to hide uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) cadres in her home at Ingwavuma to save them from being arrested by police during apartheid. The area of Ingwavuma was special during the apartheid years because it is close to Eswatini and was one of the first places that the cadres would reach when coming from Mozambique via Swaziland.
