Yahoo04-05-2025
AUBURN, Ala. (WRBL) -Sunday marked the end of an era in Auburn, Alabama, as the community said goodbye to one of its most beloved residents, Justin Murphy, as he and his family prepared to move from Auburn to Enterprise, Alabama.
To know Justin is to be remembered by him—not just your name, but your entire story. Your parents, your kids, your vacation three summers ago—even your appendix surgery. He remembers, and he cares. It's a rare gift, and one that made him unforgettable.
Justin has long been a fixture at the Auburn Publix—greeting customers with an infectious smile, a warm hug, and the kind of genuine interest that made you feel like family. A trip to the grocery store wasn't just about milk and eggs; it was about seeing Justin, catching up, and walking away feeling better than when you arrived. Sunday is his final day at the store. Publix, along with Rocco's Pizza—hosted a heartfelt farewell celebration in Justin's honor. Members of the community lined up to share hugs, memories, and well wishes.
And it wasn't just at Publix.
You'd find Justin cheering at Auburn University sporting events, grabbing a bite at Byron's Barbecue, or chatting with friends wherever the day took him. Wherever Justin went, the atmosphere changed—brighter, warmer, fuller. He wasn't just the most popular person in the room—he was the room.
A dedicated athlete, Justin is an accomplished Special Olympian. Competing in powerlifting, he earned second place in bench press, deadlift, and overall in his division—recognized by Special Olympics Alabama – Lee County. In 2019, he was honored with the Spirit of Alabama Special Olympics Award, a testament to his unwavering commitment, sportsmanship, and heart.
As Justin and his family prepare to move to Enterprise, Alabama, the Auburn community feels the loss deeply.
From all of us in Auburn: Thank you, Justin. For the joy. For the friendship. And for always remembering us. We will never forget you. You've left a legacy. Auburn loves you—and always will.

Chargers reportedly signing LT Rashawn Slater to $114M contract, the richest for an offensive lineman in NFL history

The Los Angeles Chargers and left tackle Rashawn Slater have reportedly agreed to a four-year, $114 million contract extension, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. The contract includes $92 million in guaranteed money and makes Slater the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history, per the report. The Chargers selected Slater with the No. 13 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He's approaching the final year of his five-year rookie contract that's due to pay him $19 million in 2025 per a fifth-year team option. The Chargers drafted Slater a year after selecting quarterback Justin Herbert in the draft. He's emerged as a strong blindside protector for Herbert and one of the better offensive linemen in the NFL. Slater was named second-team All-Pro and to the Pro Bowl during his rookie season. A biceps injury limited him to three games in his second season, but he returned to play 17 games in 2023 and 15 in 2024. He was named to the Pro Bowl for the second time last season. Vikings star Justin Jefferson to have MRI due to mild hamstring strain, will be re-evaluated next week

One of the best wide receivers in the NFL could miss some time during training camp. Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson will undergo an MRI and be re-evaluated next week due to a mild hamstring strain, head coach Kevin O'Connell announced Friday. The team held Jefferson out of practice Friday due to the injury. O'Connell attempted to downplay the issue, calling it a "very mild" hamstring injury. While the team did not announce a timetable for Jefferson's return, it doesn't appear he'll miss Week 1 due to the injury, per ESPN's Kevin Seifert. The 26-year-old Jefferson missed time in 2023 due to a right hamstring injury. He entered Week 10 through Week 12 of that season listed as questionable on the team's injury report due to the issue. Jefferson sat out all three contests and returned in Week 14. Friday's injury is to Jefferson's left hamstring. This story will be updated.

Justin Pugh retires from NFL as member of New York Giants

Former New York Giants offensive lineman Justin Pugh officially announced his retirement from the NFL on Friday and did so as a member of Big Blue. Pugh took the podium in East Rutherford following the team's third training camp practice and bid farewell to the game after 11 years. "Not many players get to go out on their terms, and after 11 years playing in the NFL, I am officially retiring from the league," Pugh told reporters. "I thought I was going to do another one, but just didn't have it in the tank. I started losing weight and started feeling good, and didn't want to do a 12th year. "But like every little boy, I always dreamed of playing in the NFL ... I definitely never planned on making a block so Eli (Manning) could throw the ball down the field. I never dreamed of being an offensive lineman. I don't think any little boys are out there right now being like, 'Let me pass set and block in the playoffs to make something happen.' "What I realized, offensive line was the position that was for me. I was built perfectly for it, and it's something that you don't choose. Everyone wants to be that star position, but it's something that really defined me as a man, as a father, and as a teammate." The Giants selected Pugh in the first round of the 2013 NFL draft and spent his first five years in blue. He signed with the Cardinals in 2018 and played seasons in Arizona before rejoining the Giants for his final season in 2023. Pugh played 132 games (131 starts) at both guard and tackle over his career, and was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2023.
