A flight from Tokyo to Texas erupted into a chaos and terror on Saturday morning when a passenger attempted to open an emergency exit door mid-flight.
All Nippon Airways Flight NH14 was forced to make an emergency landing in Seattle some nine hours into the 12 hours flight from Asia to the United States.
The Houston-bound Boeing 777 was just over three hours from landing when the unnamed passenger jumped from his seat and made a beeline for the emergency exit.
Most passengers were likely asleep on the long haul overnight flight when the man lunged toward the door.
Airplane doors generally cannot be opened midflight because air pressure differences between inside and outside the cabin keep cabin doors sealed in place requiring a person to generate more force than humanly possible to open - but that didn't stop the terror from spreading through the cabin.
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport spokesperson Chris Guizlo confirmed that the man had to be physically restrained by passengers and crew as the aircraft cruised tens of thousands of feet above Washington State.
The captain of the aircraft made the decision to turn the plane around back to Seattle and managed to get the plane on the ground within 45 minutes of the incident occurring.
'Police and EMS were told that a passenger tried to open an emergency exit door mid-flight,' Guizlo confirmed.
Law enforcement and medical personnel were already standing by on the tarmac when the plane arrived at SeaTac airport around 4:20am.
Airport officials said the passenger was removed from the plane and immediately transported to a local hospital, where he was evaluated for a medical crisis.
As of now, no charges have been announced, and the individual's identity and current condition remain unknown.
Flight-tracking site FlightAware confirmed that after the man was removed, the plane resumed its route and landed in Houston at 12:15pm, about four hours behind schedule.

The above is not a transcript of an actual conversation in West Virginia but, the way things are headed, it could be a glimpse of what's to come. The Raleigh county prosecuting attorney Tom Truman recently warned that women who have a pregnancy loss in West Virginia could face criminal charges. To protect themselves, Truman said, women should call local law enforcement and report a miscarriage – which is the loss of a pregnancy before the 20th week. 'Call your doctor. Call law enforcement, or 911, and just say: 'I miscarried. I want you to know,'' Truman told the outlet WVNS 59News. Truman said he was personally opposed to prosecuting women who miscarry. But he warned that other prosecutors in West Virginia had indicated that they would be willing to file criminal charges against women who had lost a pregnancy via state laws related to the disposal of human remains. 'I thought these guys were just chewing on a Dreamsicle,' Truman lamented. But, he added, West Virginia's laws include definitions that are 'pretty broad-ranging' and give law enforcement a lot of discretion to go after women who have had a pregnancy loss. To be very clear about the law: while abortion is all but banned in West Virginia, the pregnant person themselves can't be prosecuted for having an abortion. Miscarriages also aren't explicitly criminalized. However, law enforcement can get creative and use legislation that governs the handling of fetal remains to punish women. And this sort of 'creativity' isn't just confined to West Virginia: following the 2022 overturning of Roe v Wade, a lot of women who experience pregnancy loss in the US have been plunged into legal limbo. While it would appear that Truman was trying to be helpful, I should note that calling the police isn't necessarily the best idea in a scenario where you have experienced, or suspect you've experienced, a miscarriage. 'It's always a mistake to invite law enforcement into your reproductive life,' Kim Mutcherson, a professor at Rutgers Law School, told CNN. 'I understand the idea that caution is better than being caught up in something that you weren't anticipating, but it is difficult for me to imagine any circumstance in which I would think it was safe for someone who miscarried to call the police.' If you are going to call the police, you might want to quiz them on their understanding of the female reproductive system before going into any details. After all, how many of the men salivating over the prospect of locking up women for miscarriages do you think actually know what a miscarriage is? How many of them do you think understand that an estimated 23m miscarriages occur every year globally and about 10% to 20% of known pregnancies end in miscarriages? Again, that's known pregnancies: a lot of miscarriages happen before someone even realizes they're pregnant. We don't have the full picture of why pregnancy losses occur, but they are quite often due to chromosomal abnormalities. They are often, in other words, completely out of the woman's control. And a very early miscarriage (also known as a chemical pregnancy) can be hard to distinguish from a period. Sometimes the only way to tell the difference is via medical interventions like a blood test or an ultrasound. All that said, this does strike me as a situation where a little malicious compliance wouldn't go amiss. I'm not saying women in West Virginia should call up the prosecutor's office whenever they're menstruating and ask to speak to someone about the size and consistency of their blood clots or inquire whether they'd like to send a police officer to examine the toilet before they flush. Nor am I saying that women in West Virginia should drop off their used sanitary items at their local police station so they can be thoroughly examined by the powers that be. But I'm not not saying that either! The Biden-era guidance had made it clear that hospitals in states with abortion bans cannot turn away pregnant patients who are in the midst of medical emergencies. The Trump administration has also launched an investigation into this law, which it terms 'anti-Catholic'. The 17-year-old social media influencer Sana Yousaf, whom police say was shot by a man who broke into her home, is apparently already getting blamed for her own murder. The digital rights advocacy group Bolo Bhi told the BBC that some male internet users have been asking why Yousaf was putting up online content. Ladies, if you don't want to be murdered, just remember that you shouldn't express any opinions whatsoever or ever leave the house. And you certainly shouldn't hurt a man's fragile feelings. King of the Hill actor Jonathan Joss' suspected killer is out of jail on $200K bail following fatal shooting
Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, the man suspected of fatally shooting King of the Hill and Parks and Recreation actor Jonathan Joss, is out of jail on a $200,000 bail. Just days after he was arrested for murder, law enforcement officers in San Antonio confirmed to TMZ that Alvarez, who was Joss' neighbor, has 'been placed under house arrest.' He is required to wear an ankle monitor and will 'undergo random drug and alcohol testing.' During his detention, Alvarez is also forbidden from possessing firearms. Joss, 59, died in San Antonio, Texas, on Sunday after a reported altercation with Alvarez outside his home. Alvarez was captured by law enforcement and booked on suspicion of murder. The report from the San Antonio Police Department obtained by states Alvarez uttered 'I shot him' as he was detained by arresting officers. New details about the run-up to the violent crime have also emerged via the report, with an unnamed witness stating they drove Joss from Austin to his burned down San Antonio home around 7pm on June 1 to check his mail. The witness said she pulled up and parked in the driveway while she waited for Joss and another witness to check the mail. Joss' husband Tristan Kern de Gonzales has claimed he was with the actor on this trip and during the murder. Per the report, she said she saw suspect Alvarez pull up in his vehicle with a passenger and stop 'directly behind her car.' She allegedly saw Joss and Alvarez argue in her rearview mirror, and claimed Alvarez told Joss 'he had a gun and would shoot [Joss].' She claims Alvarez then shot Joss. Per the report, Joss was pronounced dead at the scene at 7.20pm and Alvarez was detained by police and 'immediately told them "I shot him." His weapons were seized. Police officer, 36, killed after colleague ‘accidentally shot her in back during chase' as tributes paid to ‘tough' cop
A POLICE officer and mum-of-one was shot and killed unintentionally by a colleague while on duty. Krystal Rivera, 36, who worked for the Chicago Police Department in Illinois, lost her life during a confrontation between police and armed suspects. 7 7 7 The tragedy unfolded when Rivera and other officers were patrolling the city's East Chatham neighbourhood on Thursday, as reported by NBC Chicago. They decided to investigate a suspect believed to be armed at 9.50pm. The suspect fled on foot into a nearby apartment as cops ran behind, according to Chicago Police Department Supt. Larry Snelling. When police entered the apartment, another person pointed a rifle at them. An officer discharged his weapon during the confrontation leading Rivera to be shot, Snelling said. As she was being transported to the local hospital, the police vehicle reportedly caught fire and as a result, Rivera had to be put in another car, according to Snelling. She was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said. Another officer suffered a wrist injury, requiring hospitalization, according to Fox 32 Chicago. Dozens of police officers and firefighters paid their respects, walking in procession at 3am from the hospital to the Cook County Medical Examiners Office. The Chicago Police Department said Rivera was a 'courageous and compassionate officer who devoted her career to helping others and protecting our city'. He added that 'several individuals" are in custody, as three weapons were recovered from the scene. Police and the Chicago Office of Police Accountability, which assesses incidents that involve officers firing weapons, are conducting an investigation. Speaking about Rivera, Snelling said: 'She had already processed two other guns working that day. 'She was a working police officer trying to keep the street safe. And she did great work. "And if you talk to anyone on her team, they would tell you how great of a worker she was. "This is the risk that our officers take every single day.' Snelling added that "this happens way too often", saying: "An officer, a young officer, 36-years-old and four years on the job. Who was working hard… these officers are out here driving down crime while putting their lives at risk. 'I want everyone to keep this officer's family in your prayers and understand the risk that she took every single day when she came out to do her job.'
