Mosque in Isère vandalized amid rising anti-Muslim acts in France

The El Hidaya Mosque in Roussillon, Isère (France), was vandalized overnight from June 27 to 28. Around 5 a.m., four masked individuals broke the entrance windows, overturned furniture, and posted hateful flyers on the mosque's walls. Several similar documents were also found scattered on the ground.
The town's mayor, Robert Duranton, told ICI Isère that the evidence «suggests the perpetrators belong to the far-right movement». The attackers fled in a vehicle after the mosque's caretaker intervened.
The mosque's religious association has filed a complaint, and an investigation is currently underway to identify those responsible.
This attack is part of a broader and increasingly alarming trend. Just a few weeks ago, a man was arrested for desecrating the Errahma Mosque in Villeurbanne, where a burned copy of the Quran was left at the building's entrance. Around the same time, a halal butcher shop owned by a Franco-Moroccan in Haute-Garonne was targeted twice, with racist messages scrawled on its windows. In March, hateful graffiti defaced another halal butcher shop and a mosque in Haute-Savoie.
According to figures released by French authorities, 79 anti-Muslim acts were recorded between January and March 2025— a 72% increase compared to the same period last year. This spike reflects a toxic climate increasingly fueled by hostile rhetoric toward Muslims, including from within French political circles.

Attackers Target Another Mosque in France as Anti-Muslim Violence Rises

Berlin – On Saturday, the El Hidaya Mosque in Roussillon, southeastern France, was the target of a violent act of vandalism. Around 5 a.m., masked individuals smashed the entrance windows, overturned furniture, and plastered the mosque's walls with hate-filled leaflets. Several similar flyers were found scattered on the ground. The religious association overseeing the mosque has filed a formal complaint. Authorities have launched an investigation to identify those responsible. This attack follows a troubling pattern of recent anti-Muslim incidents across the country. A few weeks earlier, a man was arrested after desecrating the Errahma Mosque in Villeurbanne, where a burned Quran was found at the building's entrance. According to figures released by French authorities, 79 anti-Muslim acts were recorded between January and March 2025, a 72% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This rise reflects a climate of growing hostility, driven in part by increasingly aggressive rhetoric toward Muslims, including within French political circles. The Grand Mosque of Paris issued a strong condemnation of the attack, calling it an 'Islamophobic act.' In a statement, the institution said that 'the Grand Mosque of Paris firmly condemns the Islamophobic act committed this Saturday, June 28, 2025, against the El Hidaya Mosque in Roussillon, which is affiliated with the federation of the Grand Mosque of Paris.' It expressed its full support for Nouredine Louchene, president of the ACMR (Association Cultuelle des Musulmans de Roussillon), as well as for the local Muslim faithful and all the residents of Roussillon. The Grand Mosque of Paris also urged authorities to move swiftly. As the investigation continues, the Roussillon attack adds to mounting concerns over the safety of Muslim communities in France, and raises pressing questions about the response of society and the state in the face of a rising tide of hate. Moroccan Authorities Seize 102,000 Pills in Bab Sebta Smuggling Attempt

Berlin – A coordinated operation between Morocco's national police and customs services stopped a major drug trafficking attempt at the Bab Sebta border post on Saturday evening. The interception involved a vehicle registered abroad, driven by a Spanish citizen of Moroccan origin. She traveled with her two children and another Moroccan woman. Border officers carried out a detailed inspection of the vehicle and uncovered 102,000 Rivotril tablets concealed inside metal compartments built into the car's structure. The scene appeared, at first glance, to be that of an ordinary family trip. That appearance quickly faded as officers discovered the hidden cargo. Investigators now believe the suspects used the family setup as a cover, hoping to reduce suspicion and ease their way across the border. Authorities arrested all four individuals as soon as they entered Moroccan territory. The group remains in custody under the supervision of the public prosecutor. Investigators aim to trace possible links between this case and wider trafficking networks, both within and beyond Morocco. This seizure marks a new chapter in Morocco's efforts to fight the spread of narcotics and psychotropic substances. Security forces continue to reinforce control at sensitive border crossings like Bab Sebta, where criminal networks often test the limits of surveillance. Officials stress their resolve to dismantle these networks and to protect public health and national security. Tags: Bab SebtaDrug bustMoroccoMorocco drug bustsmuggling
