Bok Women's coach aiming for Rugby World Cup play-offs
Booi, capped 52 times, also captained the squad at the previous tournament in New Zealand in 2022 and is one of 19 players out of the 32-player squad with previous Women's Rugby World Cup experience.
South Africa, whose poor record pales into insignificance compared to the men's team who have won the global showpiece a record four times, are in Pool D for the tournament, which is being held in England and runs from 22 August to 27 September.
They face a tough challenge to even progress from the pool stage with Six Nations runners-up France favourites to top it.
They open their campaign against Brazil on 24 August followed by an improving Italy a week later and round it off against the French on 7 September.
Booi is South Africa's most experienced Test captain, having led the side in 23 Tests, and will be backed up by vice-captain Babalwa Latsha, who has skippered the Bok Women in 14 Test matches.
Booi (2010, 2014, 2022) and Tayla Kinsey (2014, 2022) are the most experienced players in the squad, which boasts a combined total of 689 Test caps.
They will be missing one key player in Lusanda Dumke, the 28-year-old 33-times capped flanker will be absent owing to health concerns.
All 32 players selected featured either against Spain in April, the Rugby Africa Women's Cup, the two Tests against Canada in July, or the two recent internationals against the Black Ferns XV.
De Bruin said what excites him most are the combinations they will work with.
"I believe that will push us towards the play-offs as we have so many options for each opponent, and that will boost our abilities," he said.
"This selection is a culmination of hard work and sacrifice for the players, and I want to congratulate them.
"We all know the journeys each one travelled and for most, it was not easy."

Women's Rugby World Cup to adopt flashing mouthguards to signal head impact
DUBLIN - Mouthguards that light up to indicate a player has suffered a significant head impact will be used at the Women's Rugby World Cup, officials announced on Monday. Mouthguards will flash red if the impact is severe enough to potentially cause a concussion. The referee will then stop play and the player will leave the field for a head injury assessment. The aim is to introduce the system into all top-flight rugby. Dr Eanna Falvey, the chief medical officer at World Rugby, said every player at the Women's World Cup, which starts on August 22, will wear the mouthguards, apart from two who wear braces. He added that in the men's game around 85 percent of players wear so-called "smart mouthguards", which are not compulsory. The mouthguards measure how much a player's head moves and rotates in a collision. When it registers an acceleration above a set limit, it will flash. World Rugby data indicates that while concussion rates are similar in women's and men's rugby, "head acceleration" events are significantly less likely for female players. World Rugby brought in the "instrumented mouthguard" at the women's international tournament in 2023 before introducing it globally the following year. Scotland hooker George Turner was the first elite male player to be taken off for a head injury assessment after his gumshield detected a potentially worrying head impact in a match against France in last year's Six Nations. Dr Lindsay Starling, World Rugby's science and medical manager, speaking alongside Falvey at a Twickenham press conference on Monday, said the aim was to help players rather than merely accumulate information. Foul play "The data set that has grown over the last year is huge," he said. "So now it's actually making sure that it doesn't just become a data collection exercise but we actually understand what that data means and then start putting things in place for players such that they are actually benefiting from the data that's being collected." Starling added mouthguards could help identify foul play, although she warned: "What everybody needs to understand that, in the same way, a player can get concussed from a pretty small head impact, foul play (can take place) without registering anything substantial." Head injuries have become an issue in rugby union as the game has become increasingly physical in the professional era. A group of nearly 300 former players, including England World Cup-winners Steve Thompson and Phil Vickery, launched legal action over brain injuries in December 2023. The players allege World Rugby, the Welsh Rugby Union and England's Rugby Football Union failed to establish reasonable measures to protect their health and safety. Thompson and ex-Wales star Alix Popham have both revealed they suffer from early-onset dementia.

Morne van den Berg could consider himself unlucky to miss out, given the Lions player's standout performances in back-to-back Tests against Italy in the recent Incoming Series. The Boks also boast the talents and vast experience of Faf de Klerk and Williams' Sharks teammate, Jaden Hendrikse. Williams impressed in the second Test against Italy, combining well with flyhalf Manie Libbok, having recovered from a neck injury. They will again renew their burgeoning half-back partnership in a very attacking backline on Saturday. Damian Willemse will provide flyhalf cover. Asked whether he felt he was now in a position to make the Springbok No 9 jersey his own, Williams was diplomatic. 'We have a really good squad – Cobus, Morne, Faf, and Jaden as well. I think selection is just about how we want to play in the week. I can't really say that I want to make the No 9 jersey mine, but I would like to compete,' said Williams. So, they're competing and they don't want to just give the jersey away, but they also understand that we will rotate. He (Williams) got the nod in a very important match. Springboks move captain Kolisi to No 8 for Australia opener
JOHANNESBURG - South Africa captain Siya Kolisi will start at No 8 for the first time in a Test when they begin their Rugby Championship defence in Johannesburg on Saturday against Australia. The 34-year-old double Rugby World Cup winner, who makes his 94th Test appearance, is usually to be found on the flank but has operated in the position for his franchise, the Durban-based Sharks. He will do it for the first time for the Boks largely because the other leading contenders are all unavailable. Regular No 8 Jasper Wiese is serving a four-match ban after head-butting a rival in a warm-up victory over Italy last month. Other options Elrigh Louw and Cameron Hanekom suffered serious pre-Springbok season injuries and are unlikely to be available this year.
