Katerina Siniakova and Sem Verbeek win Wimbledon mixed-doubles title
Siniakova, a 10-time Grand Slam women's doubles champion from the Czech Republic, hit a smash on the first match point at a half-full but lively Centre Court.
It's a first major title for Verbeek, and the Dutchman celebrated by having the crowd join him in singing 'Happy Birthday To You' to his father.
Siniakova is also a two-time Olympic champion. She won gold in mixed doubles with Tomas Machac at the Paris Games last year. She teamed with Barbora Krejcikova to win the women's doubles gold at the Tokyo Games in 2021.
Of Siniakova's 10 major women's doubles titles, seven were with Krejcikova, two with Taylor Townsend, and one with Coco Gauff at last year's French Open.

Taylor Fritz beats Andrey Rublev to reach semifinals in Toronto
TORONTO (AP) — Taylor Fritz beat No. 6 seed Andrey Rublev 6-3, 7-6 (4) on Tuesday night to reach the semifinals of the National Bank Open. The second-seeded Fritz finished with 20 aces, including one that finished off the match. He will face the winner of the late quarterfinal between No. 4 Ben Shelton of the U.S. and No. 9 Alex de Minaur of Australia. Wednesday's other semifinal will see top-seeded Alexander Zverev of Germany, the 2017 tournament winner in Montreal, take on No. 11 Karen Khachanov of Russia. The final is Thursday. Fritz came out firing in hazy and breezy conditions with three aces to win the first game. He then broke Rublev in securing the match's first eight points. The 27-year-old American, who sits fourth in the ATP Tour rankings and lost last year's U.S. Open final to No. 1 Jannik Sinner, fired two more aces to go up 4-1 before serving out the set. Looking for his 11th ATP Tour victory — and second Masters 1000 crown — Fritz broke Rublev with the second set tied 4-4, but the Russian returned the favor to stay alive in the next game and went up 6-5 before Fritz forced the tiebreaker. Fritz lost in the Wimbledon semis to No. 2-ranked Carlos Alcaraz, who along with a host of top players including Sinner, No. 5 Jack Draper and No. 6 Novak Djokovic all skipped this hard-court event expanded to two weeks in 2025. Rublev lost in last year's final to Australia's Alexei Popyrin, when the event was played in Montreal. The 27-year-old from Moscow made the fourth round of both Wimbledon and the French Open. ___

Colchester United linked with swoop for former League One defender
COLCHESTER United have been linked with a move for left-back Ali Koiki. The U's, along with an unnamed League One club are interested in signing the London-born defender along with Cheltenham Town, according to Pete O'Rourke, transfer correspondent for Football Insider. Koiki, 25, is currently a free agent but is on trial at Cheltenham, as he looks to earn a contract for the 2025/26 season following his departure from Northampton Town, at the end of the last campaign. After initially starting out in Crystal Palace's academy, he was spotted playing for Kinetic Academy by Burnley, where he signed his first professional contract at the end of the 2017/18 season. Koiki did not make a senior appearance for the Clarets but during his time at Turf Moor, spent time on loan at Swindon Town where he played 15 league and cup games in the 2018/19 season. He left Burnley and joined Bristol Rovers in 2020 where he made five appearances in League One before departing to join Northampton in the summer of 2021. READ MORE: Clinton Morrison's view on Samson Tovide and Lyle Taylor Koiki spent four years with the Cobblers, making nearly 100 league and cup appearances and helping them secure promotion to League One in the 2022/23 season. The defender is now looking for a new challenge after he was released by the Cobblers, at the end of the previous campaign. Colchester are on the lookout for a new full-back following the departure of Mandela Egbo, earlier this summer. They completed the signing of Kane Vincent-Young last week but may well look to add further strength in depth, in the coming days.
