WINNER's Song Mino's military case sent to prosecution over public service duty negligence, trial to follow
This situation first came to light in December of last year, about a year and three months into his public service. Reports suggested that Mino had frequently missed his assigned work and took an unusually high number of vacation days, often citing medical reasons.
However, recent developments reveal that during a police questioning session in late February 2025, Song Mino largely admitted to the allegations of workplace negligence. Following this, the case was escalated and forwarded to the prosecution for further investigation and possible trial.
Under South Korea's Military Service Act, neglecting mandatory public service duties without valid reasons is taken seriously. Public service workers found negligent can face penalties that include serving additional days, often five times the number of days they were absent. In cases where the neglect exceeds eight days, the consequences can be more severe, potentially including up to three years in prison.
His agency, YG Entertainment, back in February, responded by clarifying that his medical leaves were part of ongoing treatment he had started before enlisting. YG quotes, "Song Min Ho's medical absences are an extension of the treatments he began receiving prior to his enlistment. All of his other vacation days were received according to regulation."
However, WINNER's Song Mino has not issued any statement or shared any posts regarding the current developments.
South Korea's Military Service Act (Article 33) requires public service workers who neglect their duties without a valid reason to serve additional time, about five times the neglect period. Neglect for over 8 days may result in imprisonment for up to 3 years.

Permission mandatory for installation of Ganesha idols at public places, says Mandya DC
Groups, associations, and individuals planning to install Ganesha idols at public places should mandatorily obtain permission from the single-window system in the offices of tahsildars after submitting an application in the prescribed form, said Deputy Commissioner of Mandya Kumar. Speaking at a video-conference with taluk-level officials, Mr. Kumar said the applications submitted to the single-window system will be verified and disposed off in 24 hours, so that the applicants need not run from pillar to post. This is because the single-window system will comprise officials from the police and fire departments, CESC, and local bodies, he said. While reviewing applications, the authorities must examine details such as procession plans, number of devotees expected to participate, and the place of idol immersion. After granting permission, daily updates on locations requiring special vigilance should be shared with the police and district administration, he said. Two to three suitable locations for idol immersion should be identified at each hobli or city. Arrangements should be made for proper streetlights at night, barricading, and deployment of swimmers at water bodies identified for immersion, he said. Urban local bodies should arrange for water tankers for idol immersion and publicise its routes so that the public can opt to immerse the idols in the tankers. Ban on PoP idols The sale and installation of Ganesha idols made out of Plaster of Paris (PoP) have been banned in the district, the Deputy Commissioner said, citing orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), High Court, and the Chief Secetary to the Government of Karnataka. He also directed the officials to conduct raids and take action wherever PoP idols are sold at taluk levels. Superintendent of Mandya district police Mallikarjun Baladandi emphasised the need for urban local bodies to install more CCTV cameras at places under their jurisdictions. During an inspection in Nagamangala, Mr. Baladandi said several CCTV cameras were found to be non-functional and directed the municipal authorities to ensure that they are repaired immediately. Pointing out that the police will issue numbers to every Ganesha idol installation at public places and assign police personnel to monitor the installations, the Superintendent of Police said that applications for idols taller than 5 feet must be submitted separately and immersion route maps should be shared with the CESC officials to ensure that the overhead power lines are at a safe height. Permisison for use of loudspeakers should also be obtained simultaneously at the single-window system, he said. Additional Deputy Commissioner B.C. Shivanandamurthy, Additional Superintendent of Police Thimmaiah, and other officials attended the meeting.
