According to BBC journalist Nizaar Kinsella, United have approached Jackson's representative Ali Barat.
But for United to fund such an eye-watering move, minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co. need to flog some deadweight first.
United's stormy finances are well-documented - as is Chelsea's long standing interest in Old Trafford outcast Alejandro Garnacho, who is valued at £70million.
But manager Ruben Amorim knows just the men he wants to sell - the problem is hardly any clubs are jumping for them.

United are currently focused on off-loading their five-player 'Bomb Squad', who have been forced to train alone after 5pm when the rest of the squad have left Carrington.
But Amorim will be boosted by the news that Marcus Rashford is closing in on a dream move to Barcelona, after the clubs reportedly agreed a loan deal, with an option to buy.
Although United prefer permanent move, Barca have allegedly agreed to cover Rashford's staggering £300,000-per-week wages.
Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest have expressed an interest in taking Jadon Sancho off United's hands, after Chelsea paid a £5million forfeit for U-turning on their obligation to buy the winger.

Meanwhile, Antony and Tyrell Malacia, who both went out on six month loans to Real Betis and PSV respectively, are up for sale.
Amorim have already signed Matheus Cunha in a £62.5million move from Wolves and are all set to bring Bryan Mbeumo in for £71million next week.
Why Man Utd could finally shift Jadon Sancho | Transfers Exposed
But the hunt for a new No.9 is ongoing, with Rasmus Hojlund clearly not the answer to United's goalscoring woes.
Hojlund missed several clear cut chances during United's goalless pre-season draw with newly promoted Prem side Leeds in Stockholm on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Jackson is up against some stiff competition at Stamford Bridge next season.
Chelsea beat United to Ipswich striker Liam Delap's signature, with the Blues adding proven Prem goalscorer Joao Pedro for £60million shortly after.
Following Chelsea's Club World Cup glory in the USA, Jackson ended the season with 13 goals and six assists from 37 games.
But 15 of those contributions came in just 30 Premier League appearances.
If United were to ramp up their interest in Jackson, they would likely face competition from AC Milan, who are confident they can prize him away from the Prem.

Manchester United complete £65m signing of Bryan Mbeumo

Manchester United have bought Bryan Mbeumo for an initial £65m to take Ruben Amorim 's summer spending on attackers past £120m. The Cameroon international, whose fee could rise to £71m if add-ons are triggered, has signed a five-year deal at Old Trafford, while United have the option to extend it for a further season. Mbeumo, who scored 20 Premier League goals for Brentford last season, joins the £62.5m signing Matheus Cunha in Amorim's new-look attack as United have secured their top targets in each position. The 25-year-old was also wanted by Newcastle and Tottenham but never budged from a preference to go to Old Trafford and he revealed he was a boyhood fan of United. He said: said: 'As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams; the team whose shirt I wore growing up. 'My mentality is to always be better than I was yesterday. I know that I have the spirit and character to reach another level here, learning from Ruben Amorim and playing alongside world-class players. 'Everybody told me about the environment that is being created here and how exciting the plans are for the future. This is a massive club, with an incredible stadium and amazing fans, we are all really determined to challenge for the biggest trophies.' United had two previous offers for Mbeumo rejected as Brentford held out for a higher amount and the London club received a club-record fee when the Europa League finalists returned with a third offer last week. Mbeumo is now set to join United on their pre-season tour of the United States and has become Amorim's third signing of the close season, after Cunha and the teenage Paraguayan left-back Diego Leon. Only Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland scored more Premier League goals than Mbeumo last season while over the last three years, he ranks seventh for goal contributions and director of football Jason Wilcox said the forward's end product had impressed United. He explained: 'Bryan's goals and assists record in the Premier League is exceptional, his remarkable consistency has put him amongst the most productive players in England for the last three seasons. 'Bryan's belief in our project and determination to join the club confirmed that he was the perfect fit for Manchester United and the culture that we are developing. 'We are delighted to have secured another one of our primary targets ahead of the pre-season tour. The experience in the US will be the perfect opportunity for Bryan to work with Ruben and his new team-mates as we prepare for an exciting season ahead.'

Bryan Mbeumo completes move to Manchester United from Brentford

Manchester United have completed the long-awaited signing of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo for a fee rising to £71million. Nearly seven weeks after seeing their first offer rebuffed, the Red Devils finally have their man and the 25-year-old has signed a deal until 2030 with the option of a further year. Mbeumo leaves Brentford for an initial £65m fee that PA understands could rise by a further £6m should certain add-on clauses related to team and player be achieved. 'As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams; the team whose shirt I wore growing up,' the Cameroon international said. 'My mentality is to always be better than I was yesterday. I know that I have the spirit and character to reach another level here, learning from Ruben Amorim and playing alongside world-class players. 'Everybody told me about the environment that is being created here and how exciting the plans are for the future. This is a massive club, with an incredible stadium and amazing fans, we are all really determined to challenge for the biggest trophies.' Mbeumo is set to join United on their three-game pre-season tour of the United States, where Ruben Amorim's side head to following training on Tuesday. Director football Jason Wilcox said: 'Bryan's goals and assists record in the Premier League is exceptional, his remarkable consistency has put him amongst the most productive players in England for the last three seasons. 'Bryan's belief in our project and determination to join the club confirmed that he was the perfect fit for Manchester United and the culture that we are developing. 'We are delighted to have secured another one of our primary targets ahead of the pre-season tour. The experience in the US will be the perfect opportunity for Bryan to work with Ruben and his new team-mates as we prepare for an exciting season ahead.' Mbeumo has been a key summer target for the Red Devils, who made a first approach of £45m plus £10m in potential add-ons in early June. United followed that up with an improved proposal exceeding £60m a few weeks later but talks stalled as Brentford held out for a greater fee. The west London club's director of football Phil Giles said at the end of June he 'wouldn't be massively surprised' if Mbeumo stayed but the impasse was finally overcome at the end of last week. Sources have indicated that United were irked by the way negotiations were handled at times as the valuation fluctuated, with a price of £70m plus £7m mentioned at one point. Tottenham – now managed by former Brentford boss Thomas Frank – showed interest in a summer move for Mbeumo, with sources indicating Newcastle, Arsenal and Chelsea also did to varying levels. Mbeumo follows fellow forward Matheus Cunha – United's other top summer target – to Old Trafford. The Brazil international joined from Wolves last month for £62.5m, while Diego Leon linked up after striking a deal with Cerro Porteno in January. In terms of outgoings, Marcus Rashford is set to leave his boyhood club for Barcelona and an announcement could come on Tuesday. The 27-year-old, who ended last season at Aston Villa, is in Spain to complete a loan move to Barcelona with an option to buy. PA understands a recall clause has not been included. Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia continue looking for new clubs and are not expected to fly to the US as part of the tour squad.

Mbeumo is Amorim's fourth signing of the summer after Matheus Cunha joined from Wolves in a £62.5m switch and youngsters Diego Leon and Enzo Kana-Biyik also arrived.
