Bruce Springsteen Reveals His Paths Not Taken

'The past always weighs heavy on me,' Bruce Springsteen said on an April afternoon, sitting in the anteroom attached to Thrill Hill, his home studio in New Jersey, where he can make music at any time. 'Our pasts have a lot to do with shaping who we are now and the things we're pursuing. So that is a theme that constantly recurs to me, and I'm always rewriting it, trying to get it right.' Next Friday, Springsteen will unveil a huge, almost entirely unknown trove of songs from his past on 'Tracks II: The Lost Albums.' They reveal musical paths — mostly pensive, occasionally rowdy — that he briefly explored but chose to set aside. Unlike his 1998 collection 'Tracks,' a set of demos, alternate versions and unreleased songs dating back to the 1970s, 'Tracks II,' with 83 songs, 74 of them previously unreleased in any form, is organized as seven distinct albums. Springsteen grew up in the era of vinyl LPs, not playlists that can be shuffled. For him an album is 'a cohesive group of songs, basically, that end up being greater than the sum of their parts,' he said. 'They resonate off of one another, creating altered meanings and meanings in reflection with the other songs.' A record, he added, 'is exactly what it says it is. It is a record of who you are and where you were at that moment in your life. These were actual albums that were of a piece, of a moment, of a genre — that fell together, often while working on other albums.' As he's been preparing this extensive look back, the 75-year-old musician, well aware of his longtime role as a symbol of America, has also been confronting the political present. '90s Superstar, 56, Is Aging Backwards In Itty-Bitty Gold Dress for Awards Show Performance: 'Flawless'

'90s Superstar, 56, Is Aging Backwards In Itty-Bitty Gold Dress for Awards Show Performance: 'Flawless' originally appeared on Parade. continues to excite her fans with her latest string of announcements and projects—and her latest appearance was no different. The music superstar attended the 2025 BET Awards on Monday night, June 9, absolutely dazzling audiences—both in person and online—as she took the stage in an itty-bitty gold mini dress that perfectly accentuated her curves. The 56-year-old truly appeared to be aging backwards, showing off her ageless looks on the special night out. For beauty, Carey wore her signature blonde tresses down bone straight. She accessorized her glittering ensemble with several diamond bangles, drop earrings, and gold platform heels, cementing herself as the golden girl (quite literally) of the evening. On social media, fans reacted to the look in the comments of an Instagram post with nothing but love, showing major adoration for The Emancipation of Mimi artist. "So good! 😍🔥❤️," one declared, while another simply called her "Flawless." A third dubbed her a "QUEEEEEN🙌," while another found themselves somewhat lost for words, dropping only one sentiment: "OMG! 🔥" The iconic songstress was on hand to perform a medley of smash hits, as well as debuting her new track, "Type Dangerous," which was released last Friday as the first single of her upcoming 16th studio album. Later in the evening, the powerhouse vocalist will receive the Ultimate Icon Award, in addition to Jamie Foxx, Snoop Dogg and Kirk Franklin.'90s Superstar, 56, Is Aging Backwards In Itty-Bitty Gold Dress for Awards Show Performance: 'Flawless' first appeared on Parade on Jun 10, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Jun 10, 2025, where it first appeared.

Iconic '90s Singer, 56, Declares War on Time Itself: 'I Just Don't Believe in It.'

Iconic '90s Singer, 56, Declares War on Time Itself: 'I Just Don't Believe in It.' originally appeared on Parade. In a recent interview with Capital FM posted online Monday, Mariah Carey revealed she isn't just hitting high notes — she's skipping over calendars entirely. When host Jordan North asked, 'Is it true you don't acknowledge the passing of time?' Carey didn't hesitate to share her personal philosophy. 'That is true,' she confirmed. 'I just don't believe in it.' When North followed up to ask if she was referring to time zones, Carey quipped, 'No, just time.' Co-host Sian Welby then asked, 'So no clocks? Just not into that?' 'Yeah. No, just let it go,' Carey replied. As for Carey's well-known stance on birthdays, she touched on that too: 'I don't have a birthday, no. Anniversaries, yes,' she said. This isn't a new take for the pop icon. In a 2014 Out interview, she declared, 'I'm eternally 12 years old.' When asked about being a pop star for 25 years, she told the outlet, 'I don't count years, but I definitely rebuke them — I have anniversaries, not birthdays, because I celebrate life, darling.' Now 56, Carey is applying the same logic to her music. Her latest single, 'Type Dangerous' (her first solo track since 2019), just debuted at No. 95 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking her 50th career entry. Technically, the chart milestone is dated June 21, 2025 — but Mariah likely wasn't watching the clock. 🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬 Iconic '90s Singer, 56, Declares War on Time Itself: 'I Just Don't Believe in It.' first appeared on Parade on Jun 17, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Jun 17, 2025, where it first appeared.
