London's newest tourist town in ‘forgotten' district is £1.3bn attraction with hotels, theatre and rooftop bar

A MAJOR UK attraction has revealed plans to start reopening later this year after a £1.3billion upgrade.
Olympia London has undergone the huge renovation to turn it into a new "cultural hub," having become a forgotten district in the city.

Known for being the home of global events including BBC Good Food Show and Comic Con as well as live music and fashion shows, the major upgrade started back in 2019.
Spread across 14 acres it will be a new "arts, entertainment and exhibition district".
Two new hotels will open on-site, including the 204-room Hyatt Regency and 146-room citizenM design hotel.
A new Music Hall with a 4,000-capacity arena will be run by AEG Presents, the second biggest live music promoter in the world behind Live Nation.
Olympia Theatre, run by Trafalgar Entertainment, is the biggest new purpose-built theatre in 50 years, with space for 1,575 people.
Another 30 restaurants and bars will open including street halls and rooftop venues, alongside a boutique gym.
And a new office space, performing arts school and pedestrianised streets are also part of the plans.
The project is being backed by Deutsche Finance International and Yoo Capital, who are funding the full £1.3billion.
The website states: "We're now looking forward to our next chapter, as we bring new life to one of the UK's most iconic heritage sites and become part of something much bigger."
Yoo Capital added: "The £1.3 billion regeneration of Olympia will create London's newest creative district: a destination for culture, education, entertainment, exhibitions, incredible offices, eateries and over two acres of public realm."

Parts of the renovation are opening this year, although others such as the new ICC conference space will open next year.
Olympia London first opened in 1886, following the success of Crystal Palace's Great Exhibition in 1851.
Upcoming events include London Tech Week, London Film and Comic Con and Hyper Japan Festival.
The venue also has its own train station with Kensington (Olympia) having both overground and underground services.

Already open is a huge new glass canopy which launched at the end of last year and was inspired by the original exhibition halls.
Designed by Heatherwick Studio, founder Thomas Heatherwick, said: 'Olympia was once a people's palace – a place to come together and experience unusual things.
"Having lost its way over the years, we're now working to bring back its original spirit and make Olympia open and available to everyone."
In the mean time, a new "first of its kind" Titanic attraction is set to open in London.
The UK's only Guinness attraction is opening in London later this year as well.
And we've rounded up 15 attractions across the UK where you can find £1 entry tickets.

Describing them on the website, Primark bosses say: "Drift off in laid-back comfort with this printed boyfriend pyjama set, designed for those who love their sleepwear relaxed and playful. "Made in a soft pastel blue, this two-piece set includes a long-sleeved button-down top with a collar and matching straight-leg bottoms—both featuring an all-over cute, colourful print that brings a little fun to bedtime. "The shirt's relaxed fit gives that end-of day relaxed feel while the elasticated waistband on the trousers ensures a comfy, adjustable fit. "Whether you're lounging on lazy mornings or winding down at night, this set is all about cosy vibes with a cheeky twist." Shoppers have since hailed the pretty PJs as the "softest and comfiest" ever. "Got my hands on the viral primark breakfast pyjamas. They're literally the nicest softest pjs", gushed one person. But as with all viral products, the £15 sleepwear has proved difficult to get your hands on. Stores have sold out quickly and limited sizes are available on click and collect. So fans of the new pyjamas have been left fuming after spotting greedy resellers listing them for up to £30 on Vinted. Moment Primark worker yanks shopper's HAIR out amid screams of 'I'm going to kill you' in row over return One person fumed on TikTok: "Are you guys being f***ing serious? People are literally going to Primark, buying these pyjamas and then sticking them on Vinted. "And the worst part is that [the listings] have [lots of likes]. The people are actually so desperate for these pyjamas that they're favouriting them and potentially going to buy from people who are literally scamming them. "If you scroll [on Vinted] there's just endless listings. It's just greed. "You'll never catch me going into Primark and buying 50 pairs of pyjamas to resell on Vinted for double the price." Someone else cried: "People ruin everything. Just let us get a nice cheap pair of pjs!!!" "I want them SOOO badly but £30 on vinted is AWFULLL", chimed in a third. A fourth raged: "Sheer greed, if anyone pays it and postage their heads are gone lol." Meanwhile, a fifth wrote: "Sadly ppl have bought in bulk and reselling for £30 and so many couldn't buy them which is so sad." There is no rule against members selling viral items on Vinted for profit. However, the online marketplace has strict guidelines which state that commercial selling is only allowed for 'Pro sellers'. To sell using a Vinted Pro account, you need to be registered as a business. Sole traders, non-profit organisations, and companies are eligible to sign up for free. Vinted adds: "Otherwise, we may have to hide or remove listings and ban accounts if we detect commercial activity from standard Vinted members."

Illegal migrant LIVE STREAMS step by step channel crossing & boasts ‘my dream was to come here' from 4 star asylum hotel

The migrant posted eight videos before taking part in a live Q&A with his followers in the Afghan dialect Pashto STOP THE BOASTS Illegal migrant LIVE STREAMS step by step channel crossing & boasts 'my dream was to come here' from 4 star asylum hotel AN ILLEGAL migrant boasted on TikTok of crossing the Channel by dinghy, saying: 'Tell your friends to come.' The man racked up nearly a million views with a step-by-step guide to crossing the Channel on a small boat — and then told others to follow him as he revelled in his taxpayer-funded asylum hotel. His taunts come as figures reveal 50,271 people have crossed in a small boat since Labour and Sir Keir Starmer took office last year. Last night Reform leader Nigel Farage MP told The Sun: 'This is yet another total humiliation for our country. "The Prime Minister's soft-touch approach and refusal to address the root cause of illegal Channel crossings has turned the UK into a global laughing stock.' Advertisement READ MORE ON ILLEGAL MIGRANTS SEA CHANGE How Med island once swamped by illegal migrants has seen arrivals shrink to ZERO TikTok influencer Alexandra, who has 70,000 followers, left Calais in a dinghy at around 4am on Saturday. His first video was a 13-second clip from the middle of the Channel, showing a French lifeboat alongside his dinghy, which was full of fellow migrants. The next clip showed him grinning in an orange life jacket and pointing to the sky. A third video, bizarrely set to the theme tune of US TV drama Prison Break, showed the vessel surrounded by massive freight ships, while in a fourth he dipped his designer trainers in the water. Advertisement He was one of 435 arrivals on Saturday, and was taken in by Border Force officials to be processed at Manston, Kent. He was then bussed to the four-star Crowne Plaza hotel in West Drayton, near Heathrow. The migrant, thought to be from Afghanistan, treats TikTok viewers to a tour of his room, which had two single beds and a double plus an en-suite bathroom. He also shows them the view from his window. Small boat crossings under Labour are on brink of hitting 50,000 - one illegal migrant every 11 mins since the election Triumphing in his good fortune, he said: 'This is dedicated to those haters who were happy thinking we either drowned or ended up dead.' In a later livestream he claimed their boat began to deflate halfway through the crossing and could have capsized if Border Force officials had not rescued them. Advertisement He said: 'It was dangerous. Our boat sank. It was punctured. The water came from the inside of the boat. "On the other side, three people pumped the water. If the British boats hadn't come in an hour, we would have been in trouble.' Those who want to come, this is the best place TikTok influencer Alexandra He then encouraged others to pay thousands to people-smugglers to make the same perilous journey. He ranted: 'I risked my life, I spent my money, I came. Your country is not your mother. Advertisement "Those who want to come, this is the best place. Don't be stingy. Your country is not your father, that you are so stingy. Live your life. 'Tell your four friends to come. Why are you so stingy? Being stingy is not good for God. You see, I risked my life! Why don't you come? My wish was to come to this hotel and live. I came here just for this.' 7 Fellow illegal migrants can be seen in the boat in another clip 7 The migrant's room has two single beds, a double and an en-suite Credit: Tiktok Advertisement He also revealed how he beat warnings of deportation, claiming he had been told by UK officials: 'If I send you to France, you won't have any problem.' But he replied: 'I will commit suicide.' He went on: 'I just said it, and he got angry. I told them, and right there, I swore an oath.' Spinning on his chair with his arms in the air, he then shouted: 'Welcome to London!' It's disgraceful that illegal immigrants are saying it's their dream to be put up in a hotel Chris Philp In total, the migrant posted eight videos before taking part in a live Q&A with his followers in the Afghan dialect Pashto. One told the host, who flashed his purple room key card, that the Crowne Plaza was 'a nice place'. The videos had a combined 870,000 views before being taken down during a second livestream when The Sun alerted TikTok. 7 The Heathrow Crowne Plaza has been housing migrants for more than four years, and has an 8ft security fence Credit: Dan Charity Advertisement Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp blasted: 'It is disgraceful that illegal immigrants are saying it is their dream to be put up in a hotel, all paid for by the British taxpayer. 'This is a sick joke. Anyone coming to the UK illegally must be swiftly deported.' Dozens of migrants have made social media posts celebrating their arrival in the UK. The Heathrow Crowne Plaza used to cost guests £120 a night — but has been housing migrants for more than four years, and has an 8ft security fence. Advertisement Facilities include a luxury swimming pool with steam room and sauna, gym, an Irish bar, two large restaurants and a theatre. More illegal arrivals were brought in on packed buses yesterday alongside vans delivering food. One Afghan man told The Sun: 'I came to Britain a few days ago on a boat from France. This hotel is nice and we get fed and given clothes. Life is nice here so far.' A TikTok spokeswoman said it has a zero-tolerance approach to content promoting people-smuggling. Advertisement A Home Office spokeswoman said it is unacceptable 'to promote the criminal services of people-traffickers or for social media companies to allow it'. Laws are being brought in to make it easier to prosecute, she added.

I bought a 1997 static caravan for £5k & am transforming it into my dream tiny home with DIY & Dunelm buys

Plus, how much it can cost to live in a caravan VANTASTIC I bought a 1997 static caravan for £5k & am transforming it into my dream tiny home with DIY & Dunelm buys BUYING a house can be expensive, so many people are thinking outside the box to find more affordable options. One woman shared how she managed to buy a 1997 static caravan for just £5,000, and is now transforming it into her dream tiny home. 2 Loz bought a 1997 static caravan for £5,000 and was able to put it on private land Credit: Tiktok/@ 2 She showed off her incredible dining room renovation Credit: Tiktok/@ Loz Russell shared how she had found the tiny home from Sambeck Caravans in Essex and viewed around 20 before finding this one, which she was able to put on private land. In a clip on her @ account which has racked up over 126,000 views, she shared how they have already transformed the dining area on a budget to look brand new. She shared: 'Our first project is the dining area. We are completely stripping out the existing banquet seating, removing the panels on the walls, and then insulating, battening, and re-boarding. 'This was actually really funny for us because even though we knew the caravan wasn't winterised, we were not expecting to find literal polystyrene in the walls.' She shared how they stripped and insulated all of the walls, replacing them with V-groove panelling. Loz continued: 'Next week, we cut and sanded all of the new walls. We were able to borrow a workshop for this because the weather was so bad we couldn't do it outside.' They then painted the walls a bright white shade, which gave the place an instant face list. She added: 'This is when I really started to get excited, and it was really starting to come together with the new walls and some paint.' They then added a bench for seating and painted it the same colour as the walls - and then added a Swithland Roman Blind from Dunelm. Perfect for storage, the benches also lift up to reveal some extra space underneath. We moved into a caravan in my mother-in-law's garden for a year, sure it was cramped but we saved £20k She added: 'We still have the backrest to do, a little cabinet at the end to add, and the window to double glaze. But this is how it's looking now, and I honestly love it so much.' Her next jobs include adding a media wall and electric fire to the lounge. Many viewers were impressed with her caravan renovation project, and rushed to the comments to praise Loz's hard work. One said: 'Beautiful, great job, this was always my dream to do this.' Another added: 'Currently debating doing this … TikTok is a bad influence.'
