Trucks, busses and even a riding lawnmower take center stage at Franklin Park summer wrapup event
Summer went out with a low, slow honk Saturday in Franklin Park. And with a couple of short beeps. And then some longer ones. Cacophony reigned as children climbed in, explored and — frequently — sounded various horns of trucks of all shapes, sizes and duties at the Park District's annual Touch-a-Truck event. 'It's our last event of the summer,' said Park District of Franklin Park marketing manager Catherine Saponieri. 'It's a nice tradition as we go into fall.' The trucks, lined up behind the district's banquet center, formed an imposing lineup with ladders and cranes extended high, flags fluttering in the clear morning. And it wasn't just the ladders and cranes that caught kids' attention. 'He likes trucks,' explained Cindy Kaye, out with her great-nephew, Jordan Bennett. Jordan was busily exploring a riding mower but Kaye explained his favorite were the tow trucks. Saponieri said the morning event draws some 600 people to look at vehicles from the city's fleet as well as from private companies. She said it allows little kids a chance to see and get to know the big vehicles they may see throughout the year in their community. 'For the little ones, it's good for them,' she said. This year, two new attractions included the WasteNot Compost vehicle, an entirely electric compost-collection van. The vehicles pick up residential and commercial compostable waste throughout the area. Also, new this year, Sunrise's Lakeview Bus Lines offered three vehicles — a full sized bus, a specialty smaller bus for kids with disabilities and a small transport van — for kids to explore. Representatives from Sunrise were on hand in case any parents wanted to do more than explore the vehicles. The part-time, often seasonal needs of bus lines create a lot of employee turnover, and Jaime Enger, the general manager, said they're always looking to hire drivers. He said for the right person, it could be a great job — work anywhere in the area, drive anything you want. 'We do multiple districts, even Chicago Public Schools,' he said. 'We try to help out everyone we can. We stay competitive on pay and we work around people's schedules.' While some vehicles do require passenger and commercial licenses — which Sunrise can help get — he said the driving isn't that tricky. 'They look intimidating, but they're not intimidating,' he said. 'They're very easy to drive. It's like driving a U-Haul.' And to every other driver, safety director Barry Poole had something to say. 'Please,' he said. 'Stop for the bus's red lights. Make sure you stop for the lights.'

Release Date: August 08, 2025 For the complete transcript of the earnings call, please refer to the full earnings call transcript. Positive Points Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co (NASDAQ:GT) has executed consistently on its Goodyear Forward initiative, achieving P&L benefits ahead of schedule. The company has increased pricing in the US and Canada in response to tariffs, which has been effective in maintaining price-mix benefits. Goodyear has expanded its margins in the Asia Pacific region and reduced SG&A costs. The company is on track to deliver a strong balance sheet by the end of the year, supported by three divestitures. Goodyear is introducing new premium products, such as the Eagle F1 Asymmetric six and Assurance MaxLife two, to drive organic growth and improve its product mix. Negative Points Goodyear's second-quarter results were below expectations due to unprecedented industry disruption and global trade changes. The consumer OE industry contracted more than anticipated in both the Americas and Europe, impacting volume. There is increased competition in the consumer replacement market, particularly in the Americas and EMEA, affecting volume. The truck tire market is experiencing recessionary levels, with significant volume declines expected to continue. Tariff costs are increasing, with annualized costs expected to rise to $350 million, impacting the company's cost structure. Q & A Highlights Q: Could you elaborate on the impact of low-cost imports on your key markets, particularly outside the US, and clarify the timeline of the Section 232 tariffs? A: Christina Zamarro, Executive Vice President and CFO, explained that imports surged across key markets, including the US and Europe, rather than being redirected. The Section 232 tariffs for tires took effect in early May, and the significant increase in imports is partly due to the time it takes for tires to arrive from Southeast Asia. The expectation is that imports will decline in the US by the third quarter, while Europe may face additional tariffs due to ongoing investigations. Q: Can you provide insights into the price versus mix dynamics, and how do you see this evolving? A: Christina Zamarro noted that recent price increases are effective, but commercial truck mix has been a headwind. The demand in the US has been skewed towards lower-end products due to price inflation speculation. Seasonal mix improvements are expected in the fourth quarter, and new product launches in larger rim sizes should drive a richer mix. Q: What are the main components of the $74 million in other costs, and should we expect similar impacts in future quarters? A: Christina Zamarro clarified that the increase is due to annualized inflation, new tariff costs, and manufacturing inefficiencies from ramping down factories. These costs are expected to continue, with tariffs contributing $60 million in Q3 and $70-$80 million in Q4. Q: How are you addressing the commercial vehicle headwinds, and what is the outlook for this segment? A: Christina Zamarro indicated that the commercial truck profit contribution is significant, and the company expects additional unabsorbed costs in the second half. New tariffs from Brazil and Vietnam will also increase costs. Adjustments in production are being made to align with demand. Q: With the wind down of the Cooper brand's relationship with ATD, what impact did this have on volumes, and when do you expect resolution? A: Mark Stewart, CEO, explained that the decision to exit ATD was strategic, focusing on aligned distributors. By the end of July, 95% of the retail base had transitioned to new distributors. The impact on volumes was minimal, as ATD represented less than 5% of consumer replacement volumes. One-of-One 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A Emerges as Rare Star at Premier Auction
Read the full story on Modern Car Collector A rare 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A Coupe, finished in its original high-impact Go Mango Orange and powered by a matching-numbers 340 Six-Pack V8, is turning heads ahead of its appearance at the Premier Auction Group's summer sale in Florida. The boldly styled muscle car, one of only 2,399 T/A models produced in 1970, has already drawn a high bid of $55,000 and is expected to climb as collectors take note of its documented rarity and condition. What sets this example apart isn't just the color or equipment—but the unique combination of features that makes it a one-of-one car, according to a March 2025 Dave Wise Elite Validation Report. Only 197 Challenger T/As were built with the 4-speed manual transmission and iconic Hurst Pistol Grip shifter, and this car takes that configuration a step further with a white interior, white vinyl roof, and a striking Go Mango exterior with factory blacked-out T/A graphics. The result is a color and option combination that makes this car the only known example of its kind. Additional original features include the fiberglass scooped hood with hood pins, side-exit exhaust, ducktail rear spoiler, Rallye wheels, and a preserved broadcast sheet that confirms its factory specifications and matching drivetrain components. Experts say the Challenger T/A's connection to Trans Am racing, along with its limited production and aggressive styling, make it one of the most desirable Mopars of the era. But this particular car, with its verified one-of-one status and period-correct presentation, stands in a category of its own. Bidding remains open ahead of its scheduled sale, and muscle car enthusiasts are watching closely to see how high this rare Dodge will climb. See it here.
