NEET PG 2025: Distant Exam Centres Trigger Widespread Anxiety Among Aspirants
IMA-JDN has urgently appealed to Union Health Minister J P Nadda, raising serious concerns over NEET PG 2025 exam centre allotment and its impact on affected candidates.
The Indian Medical Association–Junior Doctors' Network (IMA–JDN) has submitted an urgent representation to Union Health Minister J P Nadda, voicing serious concerns regarding the allotment of NEET-PG examination centres. This comes in response to widespread complaints from aspirants across the country who have been assigned test centres in distant states, sparking distress and anxiety among candidates.
With the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test–Postgraduate (NEET-PG) scheduled for 3 August, the IMA–JDN has appealed to the Union Health Ministry to instruct the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) to reopen the portal for changing exam centres. This would allow affected candidates the opportunity to select centres closer to their home state or within nearby regions.
In its representation, the IMA–JDN underlined that while some students have been allotted centres in nearby cities, thousands of others have been assigned locations in far-flung states, requiring them to undertake long, expensive, and stressful journeys to unfamiliar places.
The doctors' body stated, 'This move is causing much concern, especially among the economically weaker sections, ladies, and those from remote or rural regions."
'This disparity not only affects fairness but could negatively impact students' mental well-being and performance in this critical, once-a-year exam," it said. 'IMA–JDN remains committed to ensuring equity and accessibility in all aspects of medical education and examination systems," the doctors' body added.
In the meantime, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) on 21 July issued the exam intimation slips for NEET PG 2025. The admit cards for NEET PG 2025 are scheduled to be released on 31 July.
Simultaneously, the Supreme Court of India has fixed 3 August to hear a batch of petitions related to the transparency of the NEET PG examination process. A bench comprising Justices K Vinod Chandran and NV Anjaria briefly took up the matter, which centres on issues concerning the release of answer keys and the evaluation mechanism followed by the National Board of Examinations (NBE).
One of the petitions, filed through advocate Tanvi Dubey, challenges the lack of transparency in the assessment process and seeks various directions to be issued to the NBE. The plea calls for the release of question papers and answer keys to the candidates, along with a breakdown of correct and incorrect responses as evaluated.

Nadda urged to give permission for MBBS admission in two Odisha medical colleges
Agency: PTI Bhubaneswar, Aug 5 (PTI) The Odisha government on Tuesday urged Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda to grant permission for admission in 100 MBBS seats in two new government-run medical colleges of the state for the academic session 2025-26. Odisha Health & Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling, along with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan who hailed from the state, and others, met Nadda in New Delhi and raised this demand. Mahaling requested Nadda to issue for Letter of Permission (LoP) for admission of 100 MBBS seats in the 2025-26 session in each of Pavitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College (PMPMC), Talcher and Government Medical College (GMC), Phulbani, a statement issued by the Odisha health department said here. Both institutions have recently been established to cater to the growing demand in the medical education sector of Odisha. The respective deans and principals of these two institutions had already submitted their applications for LoP on January 18, 2025, through the National Medical Commission (NMC) portal, the statement said. The NMC teams had also conducted physical inspections of the Pavitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College in June 2025 and Government Medical College, Phulbani in May last. The state government has provided the budgetary grants to enhance facilities and ensure quality medical education at both institutions, it said. When the LoP is granted, two more government medical colleges will be added to the state's healthcare infrastructure, increasing the total number from 14 to 16 government medical colleges. Consequently, the total number of MBBS seats in government institutions will increase to 1800. Claims of empanelled hospitals under Ayushman Bharat being settled: Haryana govt
Chandigarh, Aug 5 (PTI) The Haryana government Tuesday said that the claims of empanelled hospitals under the Ayushman Bharat scheme are being settled. This comes days after the state unit of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) said that 650 private hospitals across the state will stop treating patients under the scheme from August 7 if pending claims are not cleared by then. Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda had also recently claimed that the government owed over Rs 400 crore to the private hospitals and said it was playing with its scheme as well as the lives and health of the public. According to a state government statement, Haryana's State Health Agency (SHA) 'acknowledges letter issued by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Haryana dated July 28, wherein the IMA has expressed its decision to halt services under the Ayushman Bharat — Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) starting from August 7, citing outstanding payments as the reason". In this context, the Haryana SHA wishes to clarify the current status of payments, claim processing, grievance redressal mechanisms and empanelment procedures to provide transparency and reassurance to all stakeholders, the statement said. 'We are pleased to state that the budget has been received from the State Government on August 4, 2025, and accordingly, payment to empanelled hospitals has been initiated on a first-in-first-out basis. This development reflects the state government's commitment to ensuring timely disbursement of funds and uninterrupted delivery of healthcare services under the Ayushman Bharat scheme," it said. It further said that the SHA has already processed and paid claims submitted by empanelled hospitals up to the first week of May 2025. 'A total of Rs 2,900 crore has been disbursed to hospitals since the inception of the scheme. During the financial year 2025-26, up to July 16, 2025, an amount of Rs 240.63 crore has been received from the State and Central Governments and fully utilized for settlement of eligible claims," it said. Claims submitted by the empanelled hospitals are processed by a team of 50 doctors through the online platform of the National Health Authority (NHA). The NHA is the apex body responsible for implementing the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana scheme. 'The portal ensures a transparent and impartial claim allocation process by randomly assigning cases to processors. All deductions are made strictly as per NHA guidelines and only when adequate clinical justification or documentation is lacking. 'Before any rejection or deduction, hospitals are given an opportunity to upload the required supporting documents such as vital charts, clinical images, OT notes, and test reports. If a hospital disagrees with a deduction, it may file an appeal through the portal. These appeals are reviewed by a designated Medical Audit Committee," the state government statement said. It said the SHA has also taken cognisance of the grievances raised by hospitals regarding payment delays, claim rejections and non-processing of claims. To date, over 400 grievances from empanelled hospitals have been formally registered and resolved through the Central Grievance Redressal Management System 2.0 portal, which is an online web-enabled system developed to redress the Ayushman Bharat Yojana-related grievances. The SHA maintains regular communication with the Haryana IMA to address their concerns, the statement said. 'SHA, Haryana remains committed to ensuring transparency, timely disbursement of payments, and strengthening public-private partnerships in healthcare delivery. Regular updates on the payment status and other operational matters are being shared with stakeholders through official channels," it said. 1 in 3 of Punjab's groundwater samples contains uranium beyond safe limits, Rajya Sabha told
Chandigarh: One-third of groundwater samples analysed by the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) in Punjab have tested positive for toxic levels of Uranium, along with harmful concentrations of Arsenic, Fluoride, and Nitrate, raising serious public health concerns. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Punjab has long struggled with groundwater contamination, often linked to industrial discharge, agricultural runoff, and poorly managed waste disposal systems. Such pollutants can cause severe health complications ranging from chronic illnesses to irreversible organ damage. In a written reply to MP Swati Maliwal in the Rajya Sabha on July 28, the Union ministry of state for jal shakti reported that 32.6% of groundwater samples tested in Punjab exceeded the permissible uranium limit of 0.03 mg/L—the highest contamination rate recorded among all tested parameters. In comparison, 10.7% of samples in Delhi crossed the same threshold. Elevated uranium levels in drinking water are known to cause kidney damage and other long-term health issues. Out of 908 samples analysed in Punjab, 296 contained uranium beyond the permissible limit. In addition, 13.8% of samples had fluoride levels above the safe limit of 1.5 mg/L, linked to ailments such as arthritis, infertility, hypertension, neurotoxicity, and a higher risk of skeletal cancer. Long-term exposure can also damage the liver, kidneys, and lungs. Out of 922 samples, 12.6% exceeded the nitrate limit of 45 mg/L, 4.8% were contaminated with arsenic beyond the 0.01 mg/L threshold, while 6.7% of samples showed electrical conductivity above 3000 µS/cm at 25°C, indicating high salinity levels in groundwater. These alarming findings come even as Punjab was declared 'Har Ghar Jal' in April 2023, with the state reporting functional household tap water connections (FHTCs) for all 34.27 lakh rural households across 11,977 villages. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now According to the ministry, under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) guidelines, states and Union territories are required to take corrective action in cases of major water quality contamination. This includes alerting the health department for mitigation and initiating both short-term and long-term measures, particularly in cases involving uranium, arsenic, fluoride, or bacteriological contamination. Punjab govt has informed the Centre that remedial steps are initiated whenever contamination beyond permissible limits is detected—starting with immediate relief measures and followed by sustainable, long-term solutions. The Centre has also advised all states, including Punjab, to plan and implement piped water supply schemes based on alternative safe sources for villages facing water quality issues. Under JJM, 10% of total fund allocation is weighted towards populations residing in chemically contaminated habitations.
