CAIRO – 14 March 2025: Ahmed Abdel Fattah Saleh, Director of Navigation, Innovation, and International Digital Issues at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been appointed as a member of the new Advisory Group of Experts established by the African Union Strategy on Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Selected by the African Union Peace and Security Commission to represent the North Africa region, Saleh will serve a four-year term. In this role, he will provide research and policy recommendations to support the African Union's efforts in integrating AI to promote sustainable peace, stability, and development across the continent.
The Advisory Group of Experts, consisting of nine distinguished members from various African nations, was created in line with African Union Peace and Security Council Decision 1214 of June 2024. Its goal is to assess AI's impact on peace, security, democracy, and development in Africa. The group will also advise the African Union Commission on how to leverage AI to tackle emerging challenges, and develop strategies for incorporating AI into governance, peacebuilding, conflict prevention, and post-conflict reconstruction.

In a phone call with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Abdelatty expressed Egypt's eagerness to further strengthen economic, investment and trade cooperation, leveraging the substantial capabilities and opportunities available to both friendly nations. The call is part of regular diplomatic engagement aimed at deepening Egyptian-Turkish cooperation and exchanging views on key developments in the Middle East. The two foreign ministers discussed major regional issues, with a special focus on the escalating humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip. Egypt, Nigeria FMs discuss economic ties and African security
CAIRO, June 7 (MENA) – Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Minister Badr Abdelatty praised the strong ties and historical relationship between Egypt and Nigeria, highlighting a shared commitment to building on existing opportunities to advance cooperation—particularly in economic, trade, and investment sectors, with a focus on agriculture. During a phone call on Saturday with Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar, Abdelatty pointed to the significant presence of Egyptian companies across Africa and voiced interest in exploring new joint investment opportunities that offer mutual benefit. The two ministers exchanged views on developments across the African continent and discussed ways to deepen cooperation and coordinate positions within the African Union to strengthen peace and security—especially in the Sahel region. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's readiness to support efforts to counter terrorism and extremism in light of security threats in the Sahel. He also emphasized Egypt's commitment to supporting Nigeria through capacity-building programs, including cooperation with Al-Azhar in combating extremist ideologies.
