Tourist trapped in active volcano 'screamed for help' before tragic death
Juliana Marins, 26, fell inside the volcano during a recent hike.
An influencer spent days trapped in an active volcano screaming for help before tragically dying.
Juliana Marins joined a group of tourists on a guided hike up Mount Rinjani, in Lombok, Indonesia. During the trek, the group began to struggle in the low temperatures and steep hiking conditions.
When they reached the summit, Juliana, 26, stopped and took videos with a friend she had made the day before - who was also backpacking solo through the country. The pair decided to scale the mountain in anticipation of the stunning views of the surrounding landscape from the high point.
However, on the morning of the ascent, it was very cloudy.
In a video, Juliana's friend Federica is heard saying sarcastically: "The view is amazing, you can tell it was so worth it." Juliana replied jokingly, "Yeah, we did it for the view, so I'm glad, amazing!".
As they continued with their hike around the volcano's crater rim, Juliana started to struggle more and told the two tour guides that she had to take a break.
Unable to go any further in the cold weather, they advised her to wait and rest. Frederica admitted the climb had been "very difficult" and other members of the group also revealed that it had been "really cold" on the volcano.

Juliana was then seemingly left behind. The rest of the group is said to have carried on with their hike, accompanied by both the guides, continuing along the trail. The influencer was reportedly left with no idea what to do after being left alone in the treacherous landscape.
Her sister Marianna told the Brazilian press: "She didn't know where to go. She didn't know what to do."
After she was left alone on the trail, Juliana slipped and fell at about 6.30 am local time, plummeting and rolling a terrifying 984ft down a slope. She then managed to cling to a rocky ravine by the crater of the active volcano.
She said: "When the guide came back because he saw that she was taking too long, he saw that she had fallen down there."
Tourists are reported to have heard her screams from inside the crater, where she desperately called for help. Despite miraculously surviving her initial fall, she was too injured to climb back up and was stuck there with no food, water, or shelter.
Search and rescue teams were dispatched eight hours later, with severe fog said to hamper attempts to rescue the backpacker, who had been travelling through south east Asia by herself since February.
Terrifying drone footage showed her crawling where she had fallen, but the rescue teams couldn't get to her straight away.
When they tried again the following day, she wasn't where they had seen her previously. Instead, she had taken another plunge deeper into the volcano, into what the rescuers called a "deep gorge with loose rocks," the Metro reports.
When they finally got to Juliana, she was around 1,600ft inside the volcano - and motionless.
They opened a dedicated tent as they tried to save her, but tragically her family announced that the young woman had died.
A post on their Instagram reads: "The rescue team managed to reach the place where Juliana Marins was. With great sadness, we inform you that she did not survive. We remain very grateful for all the prayers, messages of affection, and support we have received."
The rescue attempts were extensive, with six teams accompanied by two helicopters and specialist equipment all sent out in an attempt to save Juliana's life.
However, some people online have suggested that rescue attempts would have been more extensive if Juliana were white. "Juliana Marins has been missing for over two days inside an active volcano in Indonesia.
"The tour company left her. The rescue failed. If she were a white American woman, there'd be helicopters, headlines, and urgency," one social media user claimed.

Family of Greg Monks gather for funeral as mourners donate to children's charity
Greg Monks sadly died after he vanished hours into a stag do in the party resort of Albufeira in the Algarve. A funeral has taken place for a man who was found dead after going missing on a stag do in Portugal. Greg Monks, from Cambuslang, near Glasgow, vanished just hours into a stag do with his pals in the Algarve party resort of Albufeira. The 38-year-old had been missing for a week before Portuguese authorities discovered his body at the bottom of a ravine on Wednesday, June 4. Police believe Greg became lost while attempting to find his way back to his hotel and tragically fell to his death. His devastated family, including his mum, cousin and girlfriend Nicole, were forced to return home without his body as they waited for repatriation. His family and loved ones gathered at Daldowie Crematorium's West Chapel near Glasgow to say their goodbyes today. The service was also shown in the East Chapel and live-streamed online for those unable to attend in person. Mourners were asked to donate to children's charity Cash for Kids instead of bringing flowers. Those celebrating Greg's life spoke after the service. Sharon Cooke said: "A truly beautiful service, you did Greg proud. All the love in the world to you all." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! His friends and family did him very proud. Rest in peace now Greg." On Monday evening before his funeral, loved ones gathered for an emotional balloon release at Fullarton Park in Glasgow. Attendees brought a blue balloon with a personal message to Greg. Greg's sister, Jillian Monks, previously spoke to the Daily Record about the agony of losing her brother – but said the family were grateful for some sense of closure. She said: "It has been the toughest time of our lives. We still can't believe what has happened. But we're glad we now have some sense of closure. I don't know if any of us could have coped with even another day searching for my brother. "We couldn't eat, we couldn't sleep. It was absolute torture. To know Greg has been found is a slight relief. We can now bring him home and give him the send-off he deserves." Greg had travelled to Albufeira for a five-day stag do, where he was due to be a groomsman. However, just hours into the trip he became separated from the group on the strip. The last sighting of him was captured in a quiet residential area around three miles from the main strip. Jillian has urged groups heading abroad to look after one another and stay together. She said: 'In places like Albufeira, everyone needs to stick together and look after each other. His pals are absolutely devastated at what happened. 'Before everyone left the hotel that night, Greg made sure they all had a business card and a map from the hotel to help them find their way home.' A fundraiser launched during the search – and later used to help with repatriation - has raised more than £34,000, showing just how loved Greg was by all who knew him.

Tourist, 26, filmed joking with friend at summit before deadly volcano fall
The friend of Juliana Marins, from Brazil, has shared footage of her last moments before she fell to her death. The 26-year-old was seen laughing and smiling before the fall Heartbreaking footage has captured a tourist joking with her friend before she tragically plunged into an active volcano crater. Juliana Marins, 26, from Brazil, plummeted more than 1,600ft while trekking up the second-highest volcano in Indonesia on Saturday. She gripped the attention of the world after harrowing drone footage showed her trapped for four days after she fell. In a tragic update, rescuers revealed that she was dead, with her family confirming the news. Following her death, a video has been released showing Juliana's last moments. In the clip, shared by friend that she met during her solo trip, Juliana was seen standing at the top of the summit. Her and her friend, Federica then joked about the cloudy views. "The view is amazing, you can tell it was so worth it, said Federica. Juliana sarcastically said: "Yeh, we did it for the view, so I'm glad, amazing!". Juliana was climbing Mount Rinjani – an active 12,224-foot volcano on the island of Lombok – with a guide and five other foreigners on June 21 when she fell, reports The Sun. 'No signs of life were found,' said Mohammad Syafii, head of Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency. The rescue team said it found her body beside a crater using a thermal drone after four days of intensive searches complicated by extremely harsh terrain and weather. The difficult conditions and limited visibility delayed the evacuation process, Mr Syafii said. Brazil's Foreign Ministry called her death a tragedy and said that the country's embassy in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, had co-ordinated the rescue with local authorities. Authorities did not say when exactly she died. In an Instagram post, Juliana's family thanked the many Brazilians who had prayed for their daughter's safety. She was a dancer who lived in Niteroi, outside Rio de Janeiro and had been travelling across Asia since February. She had visited the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand before reaching Indonesia.
