OPEN// PM affirms top priority given to health system under president Sisi
CAIRO, May 24 (MENA) - Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on Saturday reaffirmed the state's commitment, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, to enhancing the health system and supporting the Egyptian Ambulance Organization to continue delivering efficient and modern emergency service.
The premier was delivering a speech at a ceremony held to celebrate the 123rd anniversary of establishing the Egyptian Ambulance Service at the new headquarters of the Egyptian Ambulance Organization in Hadayek October city, Giza governorate.
The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, a host of ministers and governors, lawmakers, Dr. Amr Rashid, the Chairman of the Egyptian Ambulance Organization.
Ambassadors of Arab and foreign countries, health sector leaders, media figures, representatives of the Suez Canal Authority, members of major international companies operating in Egypt as well as personnel from the ambulance organization were also present at the event.
In his speech, Madbouli commended the Egyptian Ambulance Service saying: 'This distinguished entity has carried a noble mission and a great humanitarian responsibility—to save lives and provide urgent care to those in need across every inch of Egypt, throughout years.'
'Over 123 years of continuous service, the Egyptian Ambulance System has undergone tremendous development, with thousands of paramedics and ambulance stations and vehicles deployed across the country to serve all citizens.'
The premier hailed the newly introduced services of the Egyptian Ambulance Organization, through collaboration with other state institution, including the inauguration of the new headquarters of the Egyptian Ambulance Organization on a 17,000-square-meter site, the launch of the organization's call center, the largest government call center in Egypt and the Middle East, with a capacity of 187 seats and equipped with the latest communication technology. Egypt's pharmaceutical market hits EGP 309bn in 2024, marking 43% growth
Egypt's pharmaceutical market recorded EGP 309bn in sales in 2024, up from EGP 216bn in 2023—reflecting a 43% year-on-year increase, according to Ali Ghamrawy, Chairperson of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA). The announcement came during the EDA's 15th Board of Directors meeting, attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan Mohamed El-Khatib, and Presidential Health Advisor Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, alongside other senior officials. The meeting reviewed several strategic updates, including the latest activities of the Permanent Committee of the Egyptian Pharmacopeia and progress in digital transformation across the Authority. These digital initiatives aim to enhance service delivery efficiency and strengthen the institutional work environment. A key highlight of the meeting was the EDA's continued success in gaining international accreditation. In December 2024, the World Health Organization (WHO) awarded the Authority Maturity Level 3 status in the field of medicines—an achievement that follows its earlier Maturity Level 3 accreditation for vaccines in March 2022. EDA laboratories have also been accredited by both the WHO and the European Union, a milestone that positions them as globally recognized reference labs. The Authority's growing international presence was further underscored by its contributions to regulatory capacity-building programs across the Arab and African regions. With WHO Maturity Level 3 recognition in both medicine and vaccine regulation, the EDA has assumed a leading role in supporting regulatory system development throughout Africa. The African Union Development Agency – NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD) has selected EDA's Continuing Professional Development Center as a Regional Centre of Regulatory Excellence (RCORE). Under this designation, the Authority has conducted 12 international training programs for countries including Libya, Yemen, Ghana, and Algeria. Additionally, the meeting showcased progress in EDA's internship programs, including the pilot launch of a new Learning Management System (LMS) platform aimed at enhancing professional training and knowledge transfer.

Abdelatty says fire ceasing in Gaza urgent
CAIRO, June 1 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty said Sunday it was critically important to halt the ongoing war and Israeli aggression on Gaza. This came in a phone call with US President Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff. During the conversation, Abdelatty urged the need for immediate and full access to humanitarian aid for Gaza in order to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people. He also reiterated the necessity of finding a lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, one that meets the aspirations of the people in the region and reflects President Trump's vision for achieving comprehensive peace in the area. This phone call is part of the ongoing consultations and coordination between Egypt and the United States regarding the situation in Gaza and the broader Middle East region. The conversation also addressed the joint efforts of Egypt, the United States, and Qatar to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, secure the release of hostages and prisoners, and ensure full access to humanitarian aid. On his part, Witkoff expressed his country's appreciation for Egypt's role and the efforts of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in mediating the ongoing negotiations aimed at ending the war, securing the release of hostages, and allowing aid to reach Gaza. Additionally, the phone call touched on the indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran regarding the Iranian nuclear program. Abdelatty listened to Witkoff's assessment of the ongoing talks. The top diplomat reiterated Egypt's support for the US-Iran negotiations, recognizing them as an important opportunity to de-escalate tensions and prevent the region from sliding into complete chaos.
