Sweden, Ukraine and the Netherlands among qualifiers for Eurovision final
The first semi-final of the contest, taking place in Basel, Switzerland, this year, also saw Estonia's Tommy Cash and Poland's Justyna Steczkowska qualify for Saturday's final, alongside Icelandic electronic musician brothers Matthias Davio Matthiasson and Halfdan Helgi Matthiasson, who perform under the name VAEB.
Also making it through were San Marino's Gabry Ponte, Albania's Shkodra Elektronike, Portugal's Napa, Norway's Kyle Alessandro and Ukrainian group Ziferblat.
The five acts that did not qualify were representing Slovenia, Belgium, Azerbaijan, Croatia and Cyprus.
While votes were being counted, Canadian singer Dion, a former winner for Switzerland, delivered a pre-recorded video saying the country has 'always held a special place in my heart' as she spoke in French and English.
She said she would want 'nothing more but to be with you' in Basel as discussions continue with the organisers for her to make a stage comeback during Saturday's final amid her health issues.
British fans will have to wait for the second semi-final on Thursday, when the UK's Remember Monday will perform What The Hell Just Happened?, to cast their votes for their favourite Eurovision act.
The UK is one of the 'big five' countries alongside Spain, Germany, France and Italy so automatically has a place in the final, with Switzerland also guaranteed a slot due to its host status this year.
The Grand Final on Saturday will see the 10 qualifiers from each semi-final perform alongside the big five and reigning champion Switzerland, whose act Nemo was victorious last year.

Former Miss France ‘headbutted' by celebrity chef ex-boyfriend
A former French beauty queen has accused a celebrity chef of violent and controlling behaviour during their relationship. Alexandra Rosenfeld claims Jean Imbert, whose clients include Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams and Dua Lipa, broke her nose after headbutting her in the face in 2013. The 38-year-old, who was crowned Miss France in 2006, posted a medical report on Instagram detailing broken bones in her nose as a result of 'direct impact trauma'. But she claims the physical violence paled in comparison to the psychological trauma Mr Imbert inflicted on her when they were together for a year. She wrote: 'Over 10 years ago, I was with someone. He headbutted me once. But strangely, that wasn't what left a mark on me. 'The contempt, the belittling, the silences, the perfectly placed words to make me doubt myself, my worth. It was slow, insidious... I thought the problem was me. I stayed. Because I loved him.' Ms Rosenfeld first told her story to Elle France magazine in April under the alias Éléonore but she revealed her true identity this week with her public statement on Instagram. Mr Imbert, 44, who rose to prominence in 2012 after winning the Top Chef TV competition, denies the allegations. His publicists claim the chef headbutted Ms Rosenfeld during 'a moment of violence suffered by Jean Imbert while he was being grabbed by Éléonore' and that he had been trying to free himself. Ms Rosenfeld refutes this claim. Since first appearing on Top Chef 13 years ago, Mr Imbert has enjoyed a meteoric rise to the top of the French gastronomic elite. On Instagram, the media-savvy chef regularly flaunts his A-list entourage, posing with guests like Beyoncé, Matthew McConaughey, John Travolta, Madonna, and Kylian Mbappé, captain of the French football team. The chef runs an empire of about a dozen restaurants around the world, including Monsieur Dior and the Hotel Plaza Athénée's flagship restaurant in the French capital. This year, he opened a new restaurant at Disneyland Paris. When Mr Imbert reached out to Ms Rosenfeld in January, she said she was touched by his invitation to the Disneyland Paris opening, thinking it was a 'gesture of peace'. But after learning about the exposé that was to come, Ms Rosenfeld said she understood it was an attempt to 'control the narrative' and secure her silence. 'I'm speaking out now because it took me a long time to heal. I stayed because I was under control. And I'm not looking to gain anything – just the peace of being at one with myself,' she wrote. 'I am not Éléonore', I am Alexandra. And now, I'm speaking.'
