President Donald Trump approves assistance for April storm recovery in Arkansas
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – President Donald Trump announced Friday that he will grant disaster assistance for storms that hit Arkansas in April.
President Trump declared a major disaster in Arkansas for the April 2 storms and flooding. Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders submitted a letter to the president requesting direct federal assistance ahead of the storms.

Following the request, officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) said President Trump approved the agency to provide relief efforts for impacted areas.
'I have had continued conversations with the Trump Administration and Secretary Noem about their plans to reform FEMA and look forward to working with them to save money and get assistance directly in the hands of disaster victims,' Sanders said.

Officials with Gov. Sanders' office said President Trump will offer individual assistance to Arkansans impacted by the storms and public assistance for county and local government expenses related to storm recovery.

Early Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth wrote on the social platform X that U.S. Navy ships had traveled through the Red Sea and its Bab el-Mandeb Strait 'multiple times in recent days' without facing Houthi attacks. 'These transits occurred without challenge and demonstrate the success of both Operation ROUGH RIDER and the President's Peace Through Strength agenda,' Hegseth wrote ahead of facing Congress for the first time since sharing sensitive military details of America's military campaign against the Houthis in a Signal chat.
